Community journalism

You've made a great start! I have a few comments that may improve the article:

• Remove empty line spaces (max. 1 should generally exist in articles)
• Add space before "...Community journalism should not be confused..."
• The second paragraph in the lead "...At the Emerging Mind of..." might be best further down.
• "...but they don't have to be..." is opinion, and might not be appropriate.
• "Community Blogging" section heading needs lower case "Blogging"
• "One way to measure the degree to which news outlets reveal community structure is the following list:" section heading could be first sentence in a section with a name like: "?????" (you can decide this one)
• Item is list in section "One way to measure the degree to which news outlets reveal community structure is the following list:" need to have carriage returns removed so that they flow across the whole width of the page.
• sum-mated --> summated
• Paraphrase "...Through a qualitative and quantitative content analysis of scholarship on community and news media..." as it is verbatim.
• There are other issues, including grammar and spelling. I suggest reading it aloud. That always helps.

Thanks Anna! I have made the basic edits you recommended, and I plan on going through the grammar and spelling mistakes now. Although I don't understand what you mean by carriage returns and how to remove them. Also, do you have any advise of what other sections I should add? Looks good. "carriage return" = "line space" (You've taken care of it.)

Also, I was wondering if it seemed neutral enough? Does anything need expanding?

Sorry to be out of touch. A few strange things happened. Such is China.

The Community journalism article seems quite neutral, although it's not really a very contentious subject. I suggest posting on the article talk, asking for others' opinions on its neutrality. That would be a good experience for you. Also, other editors who are interested in, and knowledgeable about the subject, could render their opinions. Hopefully they will also add to the article. The experience of working on an article with others can be very interesting.

A couple of things I notice in the article:

You added "...A fundamental flaw in community journalism is the stubborn resistance to change and a compulsion to shape the system to maintain community standards...", which could use a reference and a bit of specificity and clarity.

You refer to Clifford Christians. Who is he? Why are his views notable in the article? I'm not saying they aren't. But readers might wonder.

As for new material, yes. Articles can always be expanded. Have you encountered some content that you think would further improve the article? I think the article could use a bit more of a comprehensive view. Ask yourself the 5 Ws and a how about the subject. Are all of those answered in the article? What about a history section?

Finally, although I am watching your talk page, it is still a good idea to paste one of these: {{talkback|Shealb}} on my talk page to let me know you've replied. This is handy for me when you don't reply to a thread for a long time and/or I've been a way for a few days. Also, I watch a couple of thousand articles, so your post is easy to miss if I don't check my watchlist every few hours. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 11:10, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Community journalism - Anna's comments

Hello. Well done! Here are some suggestions and comments:

• Civic Journalism needs a lower case J. For article names "First word first letter caps and then the rest lower unless absolutely necessary", is the rule of thumb.
• Click the edit tab, and find this text: "...participants created a list characterizing community..." as it seems to have hard returns in there. Maybe join it together.
• Ensure nothing is copy and pasted from the source or too-closely paraphrased.
• Give it a good proofread aloud. This will help catch stuff like "...The is a growing number of community blogs...".
• Consider using a citation template for your references. One of your references "Toward a Measure of Community Journalism" can be found here, and so including that url in the reference would be helpful to readers. Detailed reference templates are here. Just glue one of those in between and stick it at the end of the text you wish to reference. Here is an example of a simple one:

<ref>{{Cite web | title = Apple tree fruit | url=http://apples.com/apple-trees.html | accessdate = 20 February 2011 }}</ref>

• Criteria for community journalism section seems to have hard returns in it causing the text to wrap before the end of the line.
• Delete the empty References section at the bottom.
• The See also section goes above the Notes section.

The figures added to Community journalism

Hello. Nice to see the figures you've added to Community journalism. I'm just wondering about the source. Is that for all of US? I think that list deserves its own section. Also, it might not be necessary to add "community papers" each time.

File copyright problem with File:Typewriter.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Typewriter.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Typewrtier.png

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Typewrtier.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
