Hi Smalljim, thank you for your note, and for your help. To tell the truth, I never intended to become a wikipedia "editor". I simply saw an error in a lovely Emily Dickinson poem and sought to correct it. What ensued was beyond dispiriting, beyond frustrating. Based on their history, I see no indication that the human editors who reversed my changes actually pay any attention to the changes they are reversing. However, since they are fighting the war on vandalism on behalf of Wikipedia, I can see its becoming an unwelcoming place for people to edit. Having said that, I'm as big a fan of civility in the public forum as the next person, so I edited the language you pointed out. Shrinkydink07 (talk) 11:38, 5 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Everyone who's been here for some time knows that we have long had a problem with new editors (see Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention). So many people pop up and vandalise that recent change patrollers can get a little trigger-happy (and I don't exclude myself from that). In retrospect, the best thing you could have done after your edit was reverted was to put an explanatory message on the reverting editor's talk page – you'd probably have got an apology and a welcome. Easy to say now, of course. Many new editors are forced to go through some sort of initiation like this, and it drives many away, of course. But those who survive that initial fright (and navigating their way through the arcane rules we've written for ourselves) can come to appreciate the enjoyment and collaboration that is a major part of being a Wikipedian. I hope you join us.  —SMALLJIM  11:55, 5 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I've noticed that you have been adding your signature to some of your edits to articles. This is a common mistake to make and has probably already been corrected. Please do not sign your edits to article content, as the article's edit history serves the function of attributing contributions, so you only need to use your signature to make discussions more readable, such as on article talk pages or project pages such as the Village Pump. If you would like further information about distinguishing types of pages, please see What is an article? Again, thank you for contributing, and enjoy your Wikipedia experience! Thank you.
