Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Brightview Senior Living

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Brightview Senior Living, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Sorry, I must have missed a message - I saw yesterday's, but have waited to reply until I had an hour free, because you need a lot of advice if you are to have a chance of making an acceptable article. Much of this is repeating what I said before, but it may help you to have it here.

Since you could write: "By providing excellent service and quality care from highly trained and energetic associates, Brightview is committed to creating vibrant senior living communities" and think it was not advertising, I must conclude that you work for Brightview or their advertising/PR agency. In that case you have, from Wikipedia's point of view, a WP:Conflict of interest, and should read that page and the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. Note in particular that if you have a COI you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use (and in some jurisdictions by laws against covert advertising) to declare your interest.

COI editing is strongly discouraged, for one reason because experience shows that with the best intentions COI editors are unable to tell when they are writing promotionally. It is not absolutely forbidden, but you should make a draft and submit it for an uninvolved editor to review. You can do that using the WP:Articles for creation process, or by making it at Draft:Brightview Senior Living (as you did before).

I am not going to restore what you wrote before, because it was hopelessly promotional. Material like that is deleted at sight anywhere in Wikipedia, even in draft or sandbox pages. I will email you the text if you like, but you will be better off without it - you need to start again with a clean sheet.

Your target audience is not a prospective customer or investor, but a general encyclopedia reader; not interested in how wonderful the company says it is, but in the facts about it - history, size, ownership, financial results. Don't copy sentences from the company website: it would be (a) a copyright violation, and (b) too promotional. Write in your own words. You can link to the website, and anyone who actually wants to read PR-speak can go there.

Keep constantly in mind that you are not writing for Brightview, you are writing for Wikipedia about Brightview. Remember Wikipedia's WP:Verifiability policy, summarised as "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source". When you write any glowing adjective like "joyful, vibrant, extraordinary, excellent, nationally recognized" imagine a hostile critic looking over your shoulder saying "Who says so? Can you prove it? Where is your source?" It is not a good answer to say "Brightview's marketing literature says so". An encyclopedia article should have no opinions, only plain facts, neutrally stated and cited to reliable sources. "Leave out all the adjectives" is good advice -- see WP:PEACOCK.

You need better references: they were all to the company's websites, except for one interview with the executive director. Wikipedia has an inclusion test called Wikipedia:Notability, which looks for references to "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." See also Wikipedia:Notability (summary). An article should not just repeat what the company says about itself, but summarise what independent sources say about it. You are most likely to produce an acceptable article if you follow the advice of a very experienced Wikipedian in User:Uncle G/On notability#Writing about subjects close to you:

When writing about subjects that are close to you, don't use your own personal knowledge of the subject, and don't cite yourself, your web site, or the subject's web site. Instead, use what is written about the subject by other people, independently, as your sources. Cite those sources in your very first edit. If you don't have such sources, don't write.

Comments on your draft

That is certainly very much better, though perhaps "is a recognised leader" should come out unless you have an independent source for it. My only doubt is that the references are on the press-releasey side, but there are plenty of them. Put {{subst:submit}} on the top, which will send it for review, and see what the reviewer thinks.
