Hello! Category:People from Königsberg is for people from the city from 1255-1945, regardless of administrative unit. Category:People from East Prussia is for people from the Province of East Prussia, as opposed to Königsbergers from the Province of Prussia, or Ducal Prussia, or the Ordensland, etc. Similarly, Hanoverians can be divided amongst people from the Electorate of Hanover, the Kingdom of Hanover, the Province of Hanover, etc. Olessi (talk) 04:43, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

List of companies of...renaming

You may or may not have noticed that List of companies in the United Arab Emirates is up for Afd. Just one of many of these lists which have been put up for Afd. I made the changes firstly by following WP:BOLD, because of the following reasons:

• The country specific category which these lists belong to is Category:Companies of country, not Category:Countryian companies (e.g. Category:New Zealand companies or Category:Barbudian companies)
• Using titles such as Barbudian companies and the like present problems, as if someone is searching for the list of companies from Barbados, they are more likely to search for the country name rather than the descriptive. It also presents the problem of companies from Dominica and the Dominican Republic, both could be titled List of Dominican' companies. If people are not familiar with the descriptor for a country, it is going to make it harder to find and to categorise (wasting time looking), whereas what I have changed it to makes it so much easier.
• Using the word "of" denotes that these lists are for companies OF the country concerned.

The source really needs to be public so other people can independantly check it. There is a recent question on Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard#Email_from_an_official_source where the answer is :

Agree with Blueboar. You can ask the country reps. if the they can point you to published documents (press releases, quotes in newspapers etc) where they have stated their position in the Kosovo situation, and cite those published documents; but you certainly cannot cite any personal communication. About the recent deletion of a section in Talk:USB_flash_drive?

You deleted my question "How to disable last access times on FAT in Windows?" in Talk:USB_flash_drive with argument "This page is for discussion of the article not general questions about drives, sorry". But the section "What causes flash memory to wear out?" is not deleted. If I rephrase my questions so that the answers can be directly added to the article, will that be OK? For example "How can flash memories be protected from additional wear caused by time stamping?", "How can it be determined whether the microcontroller of a particular drive supports wear leveling"? Your deletion of web applications section in USB flash drive

I think that information about running web applications and web servers from a USB drive is useful and relevant information. Rather than just removing it, if you think mail servers are important then add them too. This topic is now open for discussion on the article talk page. Removing maintenance tags

in the future please don't remove maintenance tags without actually ensuring they've been addressed. Simply referencing a 3 year old thread on the talk page which doesn't address the issue doesn't quality as fixing the problem. A google search isn't a reliable source because 1) its meaningless, and 2) you have to commit original research by interpreting the results as being notable based on a number of google hits. You need an article from a news paper, magazine, or some other reliable source which uses each term. Any terms that can't be sourced should be removed.--Crossmr (talk) 11:11, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

We are referencing a slang term here ( although it's not obvious which term you are talking about since you just put OR at the end of the sentence) so the google search is enough to establish common usage. yes, please read it Wikipedia:Search_engine_test#Verifiability specifically that section.I'm tagging ALL slang terms as OR unless you can provide a source which meets WP:V and WP:RS which you have not. Using the google search results satisfies neither WP:V, WP:NPOV or WP:N to demonstrate any of those terms are reliable or notable. Once again you might want to verify that what you're linking to actually solves the issue before you remove the maintenance tag. Edit warring of maintenance tags is disruptive and I will kindly ask you to stop removing it until you provide the appropriate sources. Also have a look under what search engine tests can't do: Wikipedia:Search_engine_test#What_a_search_test_can_do.2C_and_what_it_can.27t Specifically it can't provide reliable results, nor can it provide results as to why term x got a certain number of hits. If you're returning any reliable sources cite them. A few people throwing around a phrase in a forum and that forum generating lots of pages (depending on how its indexed, I've seen forums generate a hit for every post in a thread) does nothing to establish whether or not the slang term is real, notable, reliable, etc.--Crossmr (talk) 16:47, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

I just did above I'm tagging ALL slang terms as OR . Any that you can't provide reliable sources for need to be removed as either original research, or violations of NPOV under undue weight. Currently there is no evidence beyond an editor heard someone use one of those terms so they added it to the article. Usage in a reliable source would prove that 1) its a real slang term, and 2) its not just a term used in some small regional area that isn't notable outside a small community or number of people.--Crossmr (talk) 01:13, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
