Recent edit to El Chal
Hi. I'm just wondering why "regionally important" counts as WP:Weasel - the city was the most important regional centre in the southeastern Petén during the Terminal Classic. Best regards, Simon Burchell (talk) 22:25, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
- Sounds like an unsourced POV. We not add "New York City is a global important city" anyway. TbhotchTalk C. 22:27, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
This is actually discussed, and referenced, in the History section. Simon Burchell (talk) 22:29, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
- The sculpted monuments of the city indicated that it was important enough during the Late Classic to possess its own Emblem Glyph is the only "important" mention on the section, still being a POV sourced or not. TbhotchTalk C. 22:32, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
However, it does have the following info indicating its regional importace:
- "During the Terminal Classic, El Chal maintained its primary place in the San Juan valley"
- "The continued importance of El Chal in the Terminal Classic resulted in other centres in the region being eclipsed, such as El Edén and El Tigrillo to the west and Copoja, La Puente and El Ocote to the southeast."
Regards, Simon Burchell (talk) 22:35, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
- I still saying the same La Venta was much more important than El Chal, and the lead does not start with "regionally important". TbhotchTalk C. 22:37, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
OK, by "region", I'm referring to the southeastern Petén region, not the Mesoamerican region. I think if I were referring to important within Mesoamerica as a whole I would just say "important". Simon Burchell (talk) 22:39, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
The article Iximche you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Iximche for things which need to be addressed. Jezhotwells (talk) 22:59, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Archaelogy articles
Simon, thanks for your note on my talk page. as you can appreciate I need all the help I can get. I would like to ask for your help in reviewing both versions of any one of the articles and give me ideas in how to improve, including references. I am liking interacting with english Wikipedia, very proactive, the spanish W crowd is different, for some reason. The aim of my effort can be seen, for example, in the Iximche article, love the english version, but in spanish.... What I am doing is ensuring the entire text is available in both versions, some day I will translate the complete Iximche article to Spanish (for now I am working alphabetically in Mexico), also in some cases, there is either no spanish or no english version. Regards. --Raúl Gutiérrez (talk) 14:59, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
- That's great. If you want to take a look, I originally wrote Takalik Abaj in English, and have translated it onto the Spanish wiki, see [here]. If you look at the coding, it will give you an idea of how to improve refs. If you have any specific questions, just ask - English or Spanish is fine. Best regards, Simon Burchell (talk) 16:33, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
- Simon, when you have a chance, take a look at Huamelulpan (archaeological site), has important references to Abaj Takalik, as it seems there were important relations and trade among the two and of course many others. At the same time, woould like to ask for your comments on the article in general. I have tought that the part about routes and trade, perhaps belongs on a separate article by itself. I was looking with no luck for pictures of the referenced monuments, would be nice to have the photos there for quick comparisson. Regards--Raúl Gutiérrez (talk) 00:11, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
- OK, I'll have a look over the weekend. Best regards, Simon Burchell (talk) 06:18, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi and Happy New Year!
Hello, I'm Claudi Balaguer (User Capsot), you gave us support not that long ago. First of all Happy New Year, I wish you and your family all the best for 2011 and that the minorized and endangered languages will be able to survive and grow as long as possible. I wanted to tell you that the Catalan Viquipèdia will be celebrating its 10th birthday soon (http://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viquip%C3%A8dia:10_anys_de_la_Viquip%C3%A8dia) and that we are working on it and plan to have some sessions directed towards getting some wikipedias out of the incubator and we would really appreciate at least your advice, at best your participation (and if you have the opportunity we would be glad to see you in Barcelona): http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Teamwork_of_projects_in_languages_with_singular_status. I had told Marrovi of the project some time ago and will contact him again as soon as I can find some spare time. Again, my best wishes for 2011. Take real care and let's hope all the native languages will live long! Claudi/Capsot (talk) 10:10, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Need a little hlep
Simon, just noticed an error with two articles on the same site, I created a while back the Article Barajas (archaeological site), and come to find out, there is another article on the same site, but under the name "Plazuelas". I have just visited the site and have some notes and pictures to add, but firts would like to get the problem corrected. The name Barajas comes from the hill where the site is located, probably used by archaeologists, Plazuelas is the local name used. Appreciate any help you can provide.--Raúl Gutiérrez (talk) 19:04, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
- I just checked my copy of Arqueología Mexicana #92, and the map shows two archaeological sites, Plazuelas and Cerro Barajas further southeast - so they appear to be different sites. The same issue of the magazine has articles on both (p.44 for Plazuelas and p.52 for Cerro Barajas. Article summaries are available here (Plazuelas) and here (Cerro Barajas). Hope this helps. Simon Burchell (talk) 21:09, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
- Yes it helps, thanks. Wish I knew about the Barajas site, could have visited as well. I will leave both articles as they are, and work on the Plazuelas sites. Thanks a million.--Raúl Gutiérrez (talk) 22:05, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Cholula
hey.. Im expanding the Cholula page right now. (I work offline but I should have it done by Monday or Tues) I have enough sources for the section on the pyramid for that article, which is about the city in general, but Im having trouble finding decent sources to expand the Cholula Pyramid page to something decent. I see you have visited it. Care to help me out? You'd be amazed how tough it can be to find sources sometimes in Mexico.Thelmadatter (talk) 16:05, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
- I'd be happy to - I'm all Maya'd out at the moment and could do with a break - I'll have a look through my books to see if I can find anything of interest - do you need sources for the modern town, or the prehispanic one? Simon Burchell (talk) 16:24, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
- I was thinking more about the pyramid, but I just uploaded the new Cholula, Puebla page and the history section Independence to the present is really lame. I wrote one of the municipalities to see if maybe they have something, but if you do, feel free to add. I was just concerned that this pyramid, despite its importance, will be hard to research.Thelmadatter (talk) 03:25, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
- I must have something - I'll see what I can dig out. Simon Burchell (talk) 11:11, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
- Nice work on the Pyramid. I found a book in Spanish at the library here. Ill add some more.Thelmadatter (talk) 21:28, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
- I've still got enough material to keep me going for some time - but please chip in. Simon Burchell (talk) 21:36, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
- I added some information, smoothing out any conflicts as best I could. It could use another look. The information comes from one chapter of an entire book on the site, with various contributors. The next chapter deals with the murals.Thelmadatter (talk) 20:45, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
- It's looking very good - we can probably shuffle some of the sections around though, similar themes are sometimes in different places. Maybe "Excavation history" could be dropped as a subjection into Modern history, and we currently have building descriptions in two different places.
