Radha Krishna sampradayas

I personally think that name of the project can be Radha Krishna sampradayas or Krishnaism. Radha Krishna and Krishna without ending does not sound right. I like the idea of a project with a separate assessments that will eventually grow into a portal. Let me know what you think about the name. Wikidās ॐ 06:30, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Krishnaism is fine. My primary concern was simply that the suffix ism would limit the scope too much. I'm fairly satisfied upon reading the discussion over at the Krishnaism project talk page, however, that this won't be much of an issue. Simon Ives ^{(talk | contribs)} 11:05, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

ISKCON is a Cult

Your entitled to your opinion Zeuspitar. The term 'cult' is quite subjective with different people using it for different purposes. HDG Prabhupada used the word 'cult' to refer to ISKCON in an endearing way, as a way of locating ISKCON's Gaudiya philosophy within the larger Vaisnava context. Others, perhaps yourself, use the term 'cult' in a negative and emotive way with no solid and uniform definition.

In fact, the first entry for 'cult' in the Oxford English Dictionary is

1. a system of religious devotion directed towards a particular figure or object.

And, of course, the same dictionary goes on to describe other cult phenomena such as cult films -

2. [often as modifier] a thing that is popular or fashionable among a particular group: a cult film.

I suppose ISKCON meets both these criteria, it is 'a system of religious devotion directed towards a particular figure or object' and it's also 'a thing that is popular or fashionable among a particular group'. In that case I've no real desire to 'say or do' anything to change this.

Please help to translate this pali-language sentence into English

Hello, Simon ives. Sorry for interrupting you! I am a Chinese-wiki editor, today I uploaded a file on wiki-common: [1], which is an important Pili-language sentence that results in the early divide of Buddhism (Theravada and mahasamghika). One of my friend insisted that this words shouldn't be said into Mahaparinibbana Sutta; however, I found this word from Pali's maha-parinibbana-suttanta. Since both of us don't know pali-language, I may need your help on translate this sentence. ( I consider it is: "Do not lay down that which has not been laid down; Do not eliminate that which has been laid down." ) Thanks for any response! Hi Walter Grassroot. My experience with Pali is not extensive as indicated on my user page. However, my simple transliteration would look like the following (please excuse the lack of diacritics and the likelihood for extensive error):

• sutam: to hear, particularly to hear in a revelatory fashion

  me: personal pronoun (I in English)

  tam: precedes "bhante" to assign ownership (my turmoil, my confusion)

  bhante: turmoil or confusion

  vajji: (I don't know this one. I think it's used as a suffix for appannattam to exagerate or strengthen i.e. very far off the way or very far off the path)

  appannattam: not the way or not the path

  na: no

  pannapenti: panna - conective, penti - to bend or to wield

  pannattam: the way or the path

  na: no

  samucchindanti: destroy or exterminate

  yatha: because or in order to/that

  pannatte: to praise or honor

  porane: From Sanskrit Purana, meaning old especially ancient (this could be reference to a text called the Pannatte Purana?)

  vajjidhamme: vajji as above (?) dhamme: religion, law or the way of the Buddha (perhaps strong dharma?)

  samadaya: to be taken or received

  vattantiti: (I don't know this one)

Please review article on rupak

Dear Simon ives, Please have a look at the discussion on the article on rupak (which you seem to have initiated) - particularly on the tihai part - at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_India , and consider improving it. The main outcome of the discussion seems to be that in one example the tihai sequence does not actually fit in the rupak tala cycles in the way shown in the article on rupak. Hi Redav. I can't find any discussion on the Rupak tihai at the link provided or on the rupak talk page. I can see the transcription error in the previous version however. ESEAP Conference 2018

I’m Irvin from PhilWiki Community, a member of the Communication Committee of the ESEAP Conference. ESEAP Conference 2018 is a regional conference for Wikimedia communities throughout the ESEAP region: ESEAP stands for East, Southeast Asia, and Pacific. Taking place in Bali, Indonesia on 5–6 May 2018, this is the first regional conference for these Wikimedia communities.

East and Southeast Asia and the Pacific are the most under-represented regions within the Wikimedia community. There is a significant number of Wikimedia contributors in our regions, yet we continue to struggle in establishing a well-managed community. This conference will bring participants from various ESEAP communities together in order to better understand the issues and to look for solutions. It also aims to connect people of the Wikimedia movement within ESEAP regions, to share ideas, and to build regional collaborations that are impossible to achieve through online communication.

We’ve got a lot of participation from several countries, but we’re lacking from your country. As we need more participants from your country, we believe that your contribution and participation would be a valuable asset to the success of this event. Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.
