Speedy deletion nomination of Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. I have now deleted your article because it did not credibly state how this publishing house is specific enough to have an article in an encyclopedia. Just because things exist is not a reason to write a Wikipedia article about them. And what is more important, all subjects of our articles must also be sufficiently notable to be kept. I.e. multiple reliable sources must have reported about your publishing company, such as repeated regional or national in-depth news coverage or feature articles in a magazine. Since the company is fairly new it seems to me that it is too soon to write an article about it but if you can provide reliable references that show the notability of Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly, please feel free to recreate a page. Understandable. This "is" a new company, after all. It isn't my company, though. I have a book contracted with them, but I'm an independent author. Having the single contract puts me in a position of knowing more about them, and other writers/authors/publishers. I'm hoping that knowledge will prove useful, here, in some way.SinMacD (talk) 22:19, 9 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

The first attempt at this was, apparently, all enthusiasm and no thinking. My journalistic skills are a bit rusty, but I think I'm getting the hang of it now. I've tried again, in my sandbox. Could someone take a look at what I've done and advise me on how to improve the article?

Don't worry about your journalistic skills. Wikipedia isn't a newspaper; it's an encyclopedia. ;-)
Anyways, where is your sandbox? --I dream of horses @ 04:19, 10 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I would, if I were you, either fill in the "In The News" section, or delete it before putting the article up. You can also put in {{empty section}}, but I'd rather see the problem fixed.
Otherwise, it looks okay, in that if I was patrolling new pages (which I've done), I wouldn't tag yours for speedy deletion. I've alerted the person who patrolled and tagged your article for deletion, so they can continue to give you advice.
You may as well put up as many independent, reliable, secondary sources as you can in the article in the meantime. --I dream of horses If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. @ 04:32, 10 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! I thought I'd deleted that heading. I'll do so now. I'll keep the article in the sandbox, this time, until I'm certain I've gathered all I can for the time being. :) Oh, and thank you for the instruction on talkback. Please feel free to remove my earlier messages. I didn't realize I was mucking up your talk page. It seems I'm forever a newbie. lol. SinMacD (talk) 04:39, 10 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Article in your sandbox

edit

Just took a look at the article you are writing. I am NOT an expert on getting articles in here, as I only have one, but I can give you a couple style tips. First, bold the company name in the first sentence. I would leave off the "LLC" and put that in the infobox (see below). Second, "Independent Publisher" should not be capitalized. Third, newspaper names are italicized, not quoted. (The Troy Record, not "The Troy Record"). Lastly, you may want an infobox. I would suggest Template:Infobox publisher. Hope this helps. If you need any help with the infobox, let me know on my talk page or ask at Teahouse and I will see what I can do. Happy editing! Gtwfan52 (talk) 21:46, 10 September 2012 (UTC) Oh yea...make sure the company website is in there, either in an "External Links" section (That goes after References), or in the infobox (or both!) Gtwfan52 (talk) 21:49, 10 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! I'll work on all of that. For some reason I thought the quotation marks would render the text in italics. (Too much specialized formatting lately, on other projects, likely). I'll play with the Infobox, and I obtained permission to use the company logo, from the owner, as well. I'm afraid this article will have to hold for a while, though. I've only been able to find the one reliable media reference, outside of Amazon, Goodreads, social media and blogs. I know another small press that's had more coverage, if less production. I may start work on that article until this one has more media coverage to validate it.SinMacD (talk) 00:19, 11 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

You don't really need the owner's permission to use the logo as long as you are using a small version and only to illustrate an article about the company. That is called "Fair-use". FYI. Good luck going forward and you can always call on me for help! Gtwfan52 (talk) 00:28, 11 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
BTW, I made exactly the same mistake with how to get italics when I first started. The symbol is somewhere in the ANSI character list in your computer, but it is much easier just to use the radio button at the top of the edit box. Glad to see you are intuitive enough to look at material in the edit mode to see how it is done. You will see how I indented this for clarity if you look. Happy editing!
