Funny CSD

edit

I already tagged File:Promises JM.jpg‎ with db-author, which was declined. Please, go ahead and do whatever you want to that image. Wikipedia bureaucracy is becoming curiouser and curiouser by the day. When I want it deleted the process points another way, but when someone else wants it deleted the process points at me. Funny. Orphaned non-free image File:Star warriors.jpg

edit

Hi, Skier Dude. I put the image in the proper section in the Star Wars RPG article (since it is a spinoff it should be in the spinoffs section...). I guess that now the orphaned image banner can be removed. Do you agree? Kintaro (talk) 06:48, 1 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

New Page Triage engagement strategy released

edit

Hey guys!

I'm dropping you a note because you filled out the New Page Patrol survey, and indicated you'd be interested in being contacted about follow-up work. This is to notify you that we've finally released both the initial documentation about the project and also the engagement strategy, which sets out how we plan to work with the community on this. Please give both a read, and leave any comments or suggestions you have on the talkpage, on my talkpage, or in my inbox - okeyes wikimedia.org.

It's awesome to finally get to start work on this! :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 02:04, 3 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

photo for deletion for Smile Precuer!

edit

I put that photo "File:Smileprecure.png" on the Smile PreCure! page and it got replaced with what I think was a worse one when I wasn't looking. Since the Anime show in question is popular it's a high traffic page and I don't do much wiki editing so I just noticed this morning. The file in question that replaced mine is "File:SMILEPRECURE-OPEDHD-01.jpg" and I won't argue over the choice but it has JP text on the logo and the quality is worse. I put back my picture and I'm just leaving it up to you to decide which one gets orphaned and deleted. Thank you. Darkcat1 (talk) 10:54, 5 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Undid Image changes to "Thomas Christopher Collins"

edit

Salutations!

I was wondering why you undid the revisions to the article Thomas Christopher Collins. The reason stated was that there was no new image. I did revise the two Coat of Arms in the Article; one in the info box on the right, the other right below. If you could please justify and clarify your point to me, that would be appeciated.

American War Memorials Overseas

edit

Hey Skier Dude, I uploaded the logo for the American War Memorials Overseas article again and I don't know if I did it properly. Please take a look at it. I remember last time you said I might need to send an email to someone confirming permission to use it. Please take a look at it and tell me if its all correct and if anything needs to be fixed. Hi Skier Dude,

I am trying to help Lee S Jablin with his Wikipedia article. There was a picture of him in the article that was deleted within the last day or two. In the explanation of the reason that it was deleted, which is F11, it says that a number of conditions must be stated by the copyright owner and emailed to permissions-en@wikipedia.org. Over a week ago I notified Lee S Jablin about this requirement to email permissions-en@wikipedia.org and include certain information that they require. Here is the information that Lee S Jablin emailed to permissions-en@wikipedia.org:

The person, Wikipedia user name Tordeforest, who helps me with Wikipedia and uploads text for the article about me and the picture on my page, was contacted by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Stefan2. As a result of that contact, I have been asked by Tordeforest to send this email affirming that I am the copyright holder of the image Lee_Jablin,_Lee_jablin_2.jpg, which also contains my terms of the license for use of the image, which also contains my permission for Tordeforest to place the image on my article page, which also contains an example of the image being in use on my website, and which also contains an example of my email address appearing on a Contacts page on my website.

I hereby affirm that I, Lee Jablin, am the creator and sole owner of the exclusive copyright of the image file that is named Lee_Jablin,_Lee_jablin_2.jpg that is currently appearing in the Wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Jablin. This same picture appears in my company website www.hjarchitects.net, on the page at http://www.hjarchitects.net/html/bios_jablin.html. When you click on the image in question near the bottom of that page, another page containing a larger version of the same image appears in my company website at http://www.hjarchitects.net/html/bios_jablin_image2.html.

My email address, ljablin@hjarchitects.net, appears on my company website's Contacts page at http://www.hjarchitects.net/html/contacts.html. This is the same address that I used to send this email to you.

I agree to publish that work under the free license "Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0" (unported) and GNU Free Documentation License (unversioned, with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts).

I acknowledge that by doing so I grant anyone the right to use the work in a commercial product or otherwise, and to modify it according to their needs, provided that they abide by the terms of the license and any other applicable laws.

I grant permission to Tordeforest to place the image Lee_Jablin,_Lee_jablin_2.jpg on my article page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Jablin.

I am aware that this agreement is not limited to Wikipedia or related sites.

I am aware that I always retain copyright of my work, and retain the right to be attributed in accordance with the license chosen. Modifications others make to the work will not be claimed to have been made by me.

I acknowledge that I cannot withdraw this agreement, and that the content may or may not be kept permanently on a Wikimedia project.

Lee Jablin copyright-holder of Lee_Jablin,_Lee_jablin_2.jpg 3/1/2012

I have emailed Lee S Jablin and asked him to confirm that he sent this information to permissions-en@wikipedia.org. He already told me on the phone that he did so, and I am now waiting for verification in an email from him.

I have tried as hard as I can to understand what is missing from that text above that would lead someone to believe that F11 applies to this. I am wondering if you or someone could tell me what is missing from this information so that we can email it to permissions-en@wikipedia.org with all of the proper information included.

Thank you for your help, Tordeforest Tordeforest (talk) 21:55, 8 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

This file was deleted as orphaned non-free. However, does this image pass threshold of originality in the United States? BBC logos may have passed it in the United Kingdom and were undeleted per Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2012 January 30. --George Ho (talk) 09:31, 9 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'm not seeing anything (redlinked undeletion request) - this request probably should be taken directly to WP:Requests for undeletion. Skier Dude (talk) 23:07, 10 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Fixed red link; undeletion already requested in WP:REFUND. --George Ho (talk) 01:00, 11 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Oh... this image consists of a logo but is a screenshot. While the logo may not pass the originality threshold in the United States, the screenshot is a screenshot. Why do logo = screenshot nowadays? Can anybody tell the difference between screenshots and stand-alone logos nowadays? --George Ho (talk) 11:39, 11 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
(edit conflict) On the other hand, per WP:image use policy#format, format of screenshots should be JPG, so I replaced PNG image with JPG one. --George Ho (talk) 11:46, 11 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

File:2007 All Africa Games logo.png

edit

You notified me that the file was not used in any article. I checked and it was used in the article 2007 All-Africa Games. It was added on 13 July 2007 at 12:17 and has been there ever since till you tagged it that it was not in the article. I checked after your notification and it was still in use till you chose to delete it. I am not sure what the basis for the deletion is. It looks rather arbitrary unless you are able to provide another reason for the deletion. I did not get a reply to my response to your first notification. I hope I merit a reply this time.Natsubee (talk) 16:23, 17 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Question for you

edit

Skier Dude, I wrote and edited some of the content on the Hitachi Data Systems page. The result was one of the warning messages that the page is considered advertising and may have inappropriate references. I have since further edited the content to make it more neutral, but the message is still there. How does the warning message get taken off? Who decides when it gets taken off? Is there a way to find out who put the message there in the first place.

Thanks much Csoares66 (talk) 19:13, 21 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

For any article, you can see the history of editing the page by clicking the "View History" tab at the top of the page. If you look down the history, it appears that Mean as custard tagged the article. If you feel the concerns were adequately addressed you can Be bold and remove the tag. If you're not sure, just drop a note to the person that tagged the article for a re-review thereof. Skier Dude (talk) 19:28, 21 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

You've made a LOT of file nominations for deletion that are certainly useful and/or are already in use as higher res images. Your nomination rationales seem to be robo-signed and do not match the actual rationale for deletion. Many of these can be speedy deleted, but others can simply be transferred to Commons. ArbCom has recently banned BetaCommand for robo-like edits in the deletion realm. Please cease doing so and give proper rationales for each image. Buffs (talk) 06:08, 25 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

THESE WERE NOT done in that manner - I use WP:AutoWikiBrowser to merge categories for deletion consideration - in this case the categories were 'orphaned' and 'text logo' (And, they were orphaned when I nominated them, people may have found that they are usable and put them back on -which is part of this process). If you do the same, you will see that there are a couple hundred or so in that category - and obviously I did not nominate all of them, some were commons-worthy, some might have future use here. None of the ones nominated, IMO, fit any category for speedy deletion - they were all orphaned free text logos/symbols - what category are you suggesting for speedy deletion? If someone wants to move them to commons, fine - but IMHO, they're useless here or there. I went through them individually, evaluated them, skipped over a goodly amount, and nominated those that don't have any use. The reason that the rationale is the same for each is that they all fit into the exact same category - orphaned & text/text-logo. So, unless you have absolute proof that I am doing what you have accused me of doing above - please issue a retraction.
(P.S. If you look through my edit history -c. 300,000 edits give or take a few - you will note that I take a category merge like this for evaluation every once in a while - if I remember correctly the last time was near-duplicated and/or unused football/soccer/sport jerseys which was a couple hundred of those.) Skier Dude (talk) 02:51, 26 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, but I'll never be able to provide "absolute proof", so I'll just go with what's in front of me. Way too many of your nominations are for images that are merely lower-res versions of existing images. In such a case, {{db-f1}} would apply. In many cases simply transferring them to commons would solve the "problem". Buffs (talk) 02:33, 27 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
