Sledeen
Hello, Sledeen. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the article Simone Ledeen, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.
(Note: Your previous edit was allowed under the "WP:COISELF" guideline, because the text contained a serious error, an obvious misquote of the cited article. But that was an unusual case. Your new edits have been reverted, since the text accurately reflects what the cited sources say. In general you are not permitted to edit the article about yourself, and if you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing. Wikipedia does take issues with "biographies of living persons" very seriously. If you have complaints about the accuracy of the article, or other concerns, please follow the procedures found at WP:BLPCOMPLAINT. Thank-you.) --IamNotU (talk) 13:02, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
Question-
editSo if things are written about me that I know to be untrue, because they are in fact written about myself, then I cannot correct the record? How is this honest? Sledeen (talk) 16:38, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
- I can understand how that would be frustrating! The reasons have to do with one of the five pillars (core policies) of Wikipedia, neutral point of view. Firstly, this means that all information in Wikipedia must be verifiable by reliable, published secondary sources such as newspapers and books. Wikipedia is not a news or journalism site, it doesn't use reporters or investigate stories. In fact, original research is prohibited. That doesn't only apply to you, no editor may add or remove information in an article, based on their personal knowledge of a subject, that can't be verified by a published, reliable source. Anyone who consistenly violates this policy may be blocked from editing.
- Secondly, if someone is the subject of an article, then we have found it's difficult or impossible for them to maintain a neutral point of view about it. Even if you feel you can be completely objective, conflict of interest is about your relationship to the subject. People who are in a relationship of conflict of interest are very strongly discouraged from editing the relevant article; exceptions are sometimes allowed for serious errors, cases of defamation, or very minor uncontroversial information.
- Again, Wikipedia does take any concerns about errors or defamation in biographies very seriously, and if you have concerns please follow the procedures at WP:BLPCOMPLAINT. People who are the subjects of biography articles are free to discuss them on the talk pages, and to request edits. But to avoid the perception of conflict of interest, the edits should be done by uninvolved editors.
- I hope that answers your questions. By the way, I'm just a volunteer editor, I try to help people sometimes, but there are other ways to get help or ask questions. You can go to the Tea House to ask basic questions. If you want to talk to a "higher up", you can contact an administrator. --IamNotU (talk) 16:33, 21 April 2018 (UTC)
