User talk:SlimVirgin/February 2019
Administrators' newsletter – February 2019
editNews and updates for administrators from the past month (January 2019).
Interface administrator changes
- A request for comment is currently open to reevaluate the activity requirements for administrators.
- Administrators who are blocked have the technical ability to block the administrator who blocked their own account. A recent request for comment has amended the blocking policy to clarify that this ability should only be used in exceptional circumstances, such as account compromises, where there is a clear and immediate need.
- A request for comment closed with a consensus in favor of deprecating The Sun as a permissible reference, and creating an edit filter to warn users who attempt to cite it.
- A discussion regarding an overhaul of the format and appearance of Wikipedia:Requests for page protection is in progress (permalink). The proposed changes will make it easier to create requests for those who are not using Twinkle. The workflow for administrators at this venue will largely be unchanged. Additionally, there are plans to archive requests similar to how it is done at WP:PERM, where historical records are kept so that prior requests can more easily be searched for.
- Voting in the 2019 Steward elections will begin on 08 February 2019, 14:00 (UTC) and end on 28 February 2019, 13:59 (UTC). The confirmation process of current stewards is being held in parallel. You can automatically check your eligibility to vote.
- A new IRC bot is available that allows you to subscribe to notifications when specific filters are tripped. This requires that your IRC handle be identified.
Heads up...

Re: Jane Haining edits.
editSlimVirgin, I am somewhat confused as to why you keep removing my edit to the page of Jane Haining being the only Scottish person to be officially honoured for having died while giving her live to help Jews in the Holocaust. At first, I thought it was because it was without a reference. Fair enough. So I referenced it. Now, you remove it again and claim it needs a "different kind of source." The BBC is somehow suspect as a source? You don't think that it is at all notable to be the only Scot honoured in such a way? I would think that is extraordinarily notable. Rather confused. I am reviewing Cognition because he wishes to appeal the CBAN. You are the first currently active admin from back then I can find that knows him. Is this an ArbCom enforcement ban or is it appealable on WP:AN? I suppose a check user would be de rigueur because of the socking. Is LaRouche still an ArbCom restricted topic? I believe a TBAN on LaRouche would be a reasonable condition. Thoughts appreciated. Cheers, Dlohcierekim (talk) 20:30, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Dlohcierekim: I don't recall much about this except that he was a LaRouche account making contentious edits. I'm pretty sure it wasn't an ArbCom enforcement ban. There was a later allegation, based on a CU, that he was also 172 (see that user page). I always found that hard to believe because 172 was strongly opposed to the LaRouche edits, but I never looked into it. 172 (as I recall) didn't protest the ban, which suggested at the time that it was correct. Sorry I can't be of more help. SarahSV (talk) 20:53, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
