  Arbitration

  • The fourth case on Palestine-Israel articles was closed. The case consolidated all previous remedies under one heading, which should make them easier to understand, apply, and enforce. In particular, the distinction between "primary articles" and "related content" has been clarified, with the former being the entire set of articles whose topic relates to the Arab-Israeli conflict, broadly interpreted rather than reasonably construed.
  • Following the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been appointed to the Arbitration Committee: Beeblebrox, Bradv, Casliber, David Fuchs, DGG, KrakatoaKatie, Maxim, Newyorkbrad, SoWhy, Worm That Turned, Xeno.

Buster7, thank you, this is a pleasant surprise, a very nice way to start the year! Sj, thank you so much for the nomination and very kind words. Happy New Year to you both. SarahSV (talk) 16:15, 5 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Many congrats SV. A well deserved award. Thanks so much for all your work here at the 'pedia!! MarnetteD|Talk 20:00, 5 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, MarnetteD, much appreciated. SarahSV (talk) 03:31, 7 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Well I just need to say this: SV is not just the editor of the week, she is one of the top five or ten all time best WP editors ever. Few editors are able to be so hard-nosed when need be and yet so able to use a softer stance, what some may term "feminine" attitude, when that is required. Many of us, like me, do our little bits here and there, but without SV Wikipedia would not be what it is today. Congrats Sarah! Gandydancer (talk) 20:18, 5 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Gandydancer, I hardly know how to respond. It's very kind of you indeed to say this. Thank you! SarahSV (talk) 03:31, 7 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
You are a leading candidate for the upcoming "Editor of Two Decades" award. I have admired your work for 10-1/2 years already. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:38, 7 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Cullen, thank you, I appreciate that very much. SarahSV (talk) 05:57, 7 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Congrats Sarah! Your old (but soon to be outed?) friend. - Chris.sherlock (talk) 07:54, 7 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

A true friend being, of course, one who deletes one's User talk page out-of-process. ——SN54129 13:24, 7 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Kudpung and Chris.sherlock: thanks. I'm glad you two worked things out. SarahSV (talk) 01:08, 14 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations for the well-deserved honor. Happy New Year (soon to be Lunar) and all the best, Miniapolis 23:46, 13 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Donald, I hope it's okay to respond here. It's probably best to direct the IP to RfPP. I have no particular experience with the article and protected it only after an RfPP request. SarahSV (talk) 19:12, 8 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
All good. I just wanted to be sure you knew about it in case you had any particular concerns. I'll do as you suggest. - Donald Albury 19:22, 8 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sarah, why did you dispense with the gallery parameters in this edit?

I'm partial to borderless thumbnails in galleries, but do they create a problem I'm not aware of? Or is it just a matter of aesthetic preference? Thanks -- WikiPedant (talk) 21:17, 15 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi WikiPedant, we had an edit conflict. I did try it on preview with the format you added, but some of the images looked very big. I think they look better with some space around them. SarahSV (talk) 00:20, 17 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
OK, Sarah, that's fine by me. De gustibus non disputandum est. I was just concerned that there might be some technical problem with gallery parameters that I had not heard about. Thanks for your reply. -- WikiPedant (talk) 00:29, 17 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

"One event"

edit

What do you mean by "one event", here? The two things were five months apart. Korny O'Near (talk) 02:53, 20 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Korny O'Near, I meant they belonged in one section; it's one topic for our purposes. I've wrestled with it a bit more (and used some of your ideas) but it's a monster: massively UNDUE at the moment but trying to cut it down reduces clarity. It almost needs its own article but I'm not sure that would be a good idea. Anyway, thanks for working on it. SarahSV (talk) 02:56, 20 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Sure - it's a topic and a sub-topic. There may be too much text there, but until it gets cut down, I think the version I put together is clearer, in terms of both chronology and what exactly happened, than what was there, with barely any more text. I think that's the case even after the rearrangement you made (no offense). Korny O'Near (talk) 03:07, 20 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Your version was two sections incorporating six paragraphs. It's too much. It violates WP:RECENTISM and WP:UNDUE. SarahSV (talk) 03:14, 20 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
But it wasn't any more text... would it have been fine if the text were grouped in just four paragraphs, with no sub-section header? Korny O'Near (talk) 03:49, 20 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
That would help. The previous version (already too long) was three paras and 498 words. Your version was six paras and 514 words. My latest version is four paras and 506 words. If you want to try again, please do. SarahSV (talk) 04:00, 20 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Re: your latest, that's good, thank you. What I was trying to avoid was burying the lead of the section, so I tried to give readers a brief idea at the top of what had happened, then go back to the detail. But it didn't work. Your version is better. SarahSV (talk) 04:45, 20 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, and thanks for your help with this. Korny O'Near (talk) 16:42, 20 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

at Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Next issue/Community view before Friday.

Only 100 or so words. It should be fun and serious at the same time.

All the best,

Hi Smallbones, thanks for asking me, but I'd have no idea how to go about that by Friday. But I do appreciate the invitation. All the best, SarahSV (talk) 19:35, 22 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Page protection

edit

Hi there. It looks like a page you protected from creation - Bandaru Danaiah Kavi - has been created again ([1]). I don't know if the protection was removed at some point, as the logs suggest it was indefinitely protected. Anyway, I am going to file the editor at WP:AIV as he shows no intention of ever stopping his creation of autobiographies. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 15:21, 22 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Drm310, I see another admin has sorted it out. The account was able to do it because I'd semi-protected it, so he made a few more edits and tried again. SarahSV (talk) 19:37, 22 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
