Hi everyone I have finished my draft, could you guys comment on it please? thanks Sliver9754 (talk) 19:55, 11 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hey Sylvie, the section you posted looks good but I'm concerned about overlap. It seems they want us to focus from 1935-1941? So the Historical Section would cover pre-1935. Not sure, this is just what I got from it. I've been working on my section and it has a lot of overlap from yours. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks. --Sdesousa (talk) 00:16, 12 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Steve Thanks for reading my piece. Who wants us to focus 1935-41? sorry to be dense if we talked about this at the meeting, but I don't recall that we had a timeline like that.
I see after looking at your sandbox that we have some overlap. I can add other stuff about the town prior to the international dispute, the first arbitration is local only but some authors have called it a catalyst or important pre-cursor to the later transborder stuff. I think there will naturally be overlap between some sections, it is inevitable when we are writing this way. I will try to write more about the town, citizens and local people, maybe there is something about local government involvement prior to the international involvement.Sliver9754 (talk) 01:06, 12 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hey Sylvie, maybe we should check with the group first. I just assumed that was our timeline because of what Stephen posted on the article creation. I'll ask the others. I think your other ideas for the section will definitely work if you can find anything. And you're right, overlap is inevitable, I guess we'll just have to work to minimize it. --Sdesousa (talk) 02:47, 12 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

COOL! I didn't realize our sandboxes had their own talk pages. I think in considering historical context we will definitely see overlapping not just of Stephen's part but all of ours. Sylvie, in this case I think you could go into more detail about what kinds of economic benefits the smelting plant brought to Trail, and even look into the background of F. Augustus Heinze. This of course will probably be more evident as we move along with this, but in the meantime I think what you have written is good at this point. We can talk about this tomorrow. Which reminds me! Don't forget to bring the Bratspies book :) --Kelselle (talk) 06:44, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

I just realized I actually found an article that might be useful - not sure if you've already seen it.

I have not seen that one but will try to skim it before class tomorrow. I will be waiting to get other comments before posting to Stephen's page tomorrow afternoon, I will look for some more content on the town history but not sure if there is more about Heinze. Interesting that it was an American who built it, wonder if he knew what he was starting? Sliver9754 (talk) 07:54, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
I was just as surprised! I'm wondering what his motives were for building the smelting plant in Canada, other than for economic reasons. --Kelselle (talk) 03:16, 14 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hey Sylvie, I think it would be a good idea to move that bolded chunk to my section instead. Just double checking with you before I move it. --Sdesousa (talk) 02:48, 14 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Steven, I agree with you, that bolded piece would make a good start for your section - great transition point. --Kelselle (talk) 03:18, 14 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
yes Steven, go ahead and move it if you want, and take the references associated too, you may need to copy from another reference above. Sliver9754 (talk) 03:52, 14 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Sylvie! I like your suggestion of doing a compare and contrast of operating standards; do you think it would be more effective to do a paragraph-approach or something more visual, like a table? That's an interesting point about the old operating standards, I have so far not come across anything that goes into detail about what they are, but some sources do make reference to them. I'll have another look later. Thanks for lending me Bratspies!--Kelselle (talk) 03:16, 14 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Sylvie, I have found a quote that may be useful for the introduction. "Since acquiring the smelter in 1906, Cominco had built it up into what the Tribunal described as 'one of the best and largest equipped smelting plants on this continent'"[1]
