Tagging rail articles
Hi, when you tag a UK station article, instead of tagging it with {{TrainsWikiProject}}, could you tag it with {{TrainsWikiProject|class=|importance=|UK=yes|UK-importance=|stations=yes|imageneeded=yes}} instead? This will ensure that it shows up on the UKTrains Wikiproject as well as the Trains Wikiproject. If there is an image then delete that portion of the text. Mjroots (talk) 06:41, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Award of The Photographer's Barnstar
The Photographer's Barnstar | ||
I am delighted to award you The Photographer's Barnstar for the excellent photographs that you have added to articles on places in and around West Lancashire. Smile a While (talk) 23:32, 25 March 2008 (UTC) |
- Smile a While beat me to it! Great photos, thanks for your hard work on them. Andy Dingley (talk) 19:00, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Requests
Hi, I don't know if you do requests but your photos are so much better than my humble efforts that I thought I'd ask! Burscough F.C. is an upwardly mobile football club and the page could badly do with an image of the ground. There is a picture on Martin Mere but it is more suited to WWT Martin Mere. What is needed is a good photo showing the extent of the lake itself. Smile a While (talk) 02:48, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
- I'll see what I can do next time I'm out and about. :) Small-town hero (talk) 13:11, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think that you did real well with Victoria Park, Burscough, working with limited material, many thanks. Smile a While (talk) 03:53, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- BTW, I have also added the image to Burscough F.C.. If you think it should be differently placed in that page please move it as you think fit. Smile a While (talk) 03:57, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

- I run a small Northwest-based family oriented community site & would like to feature quite a few of your photos in our gallery section because they're excellent and hugely relevant to our group. I saw that you licensed the images as public domain, but nevertheless I would not like to use them without first asking. The photos would appear singly at random on our front page, alternating amongst other users photography. Each photo would be attributed to you in a visible title and in an HTML alt-tag, a link could also be provided if you wanted. Of course I would not use your images in this way unless you specifically gave the OK. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.141.27.220 (talk) 05:58, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
Windmill articles
I notice you've moved a lot of articles with a rationale of no need to disambiguate. the reason these were titled in the style mill name, place is that it complies with the MoS on names, in a similar way to articles on churches(church name, place). The IoM and Channel Islands articles are not lists, but stand alone articles. Just because a disambig name isn't in use yet, doesn't mean that it won't be needed in future. Have a look at the List of windmills in Kent and see how many mills share a name. Multiply that by the number of counties that have significat windmill coverage, add in the watermills across the whole of the UK and you've only just scratched the surface! Mjroots (talk) 05:14, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for replying. Re the CI and IoM articles, if you compare them with the Kent list (which is a list) you will see why I consider they are articles and not lists. I created these as an article rather than have loads of stubs all over the place. Of course, any of the mills could develop into an article if enough material can be found. I'll get round to moving the articles later as I want to get the Dutch lists finished before I take a wikibreak. Mjroots (talk) 15:16, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- I notice you're adding photo's :-)). If you're interested in windmills, I'm proposing a WikiProject, link from Talk:Windmill. Mjroots (talk) 18:34, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- I note you moved Oldland Mill to Oldland Mill, Ditchling. I am unsure why you did this but I have reverted it to Keymer which is where it is located. Paste (talk) 21:30, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Moving a German Wikipedia image to Commons
Hi, I wonder if I may tap your knowledge of how Commons works, please? I want to use this image in Charlotte_Roche. Can you advise on the procedure to get it across to Commons? Smile a While (talk) 14:07, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you - that's some cool tool :-) Smile a While (talk) 03:50, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice
Hi,
As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.
We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.
You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.
We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!
Charles Scarisbrick
The photo of his grave you uploaded to Commons says he was High Sheriff in 1834 and 1839. However, I can only find him Gazetted as High Sheriff in 1839; Thomas Trafford was sheriff in 1834. Could you please check and correct the description if necessary? Choess (talk) 13:29, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

WP:L&C to do list
Are you going to add a {{todo}} to the project page with or without {{tasks}} in it? NtheP (talk) 18:40, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hadn't planned on it. :) Small-town hero (talk) 01:12, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Minor technical query
Just curious why you chose to use {{!}}
in your recent edit to the WP:L&C page. I understand why you had to do it within each #ifeq expression, I just couldn't see the point elsewhere! -- Dr Greg talk 21:17, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
- A combination of consistancy and not being entirely sure of where they were necessary. :) Small-town hero (talk) 13:04, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
Importance assessments
Thanks for finding all those additional articles for WP:L&C if you're doing the quality assessments can you do the importance assessmements at the same time? It's a bit of a pain that two of us end up assessing each article when one could have done it easily. NtheP (talk) 15:28, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I would have if I had any good idea of what the importance ratings should have been. ;) As it was, I was happy to defer such judgement to others. Small-town hero (talk) 17:15, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
I'm not going...
...to get into a revert war with you here. The fact of the matter is there is a consensus against you, if that changes then the cat goes back. Until then we'll keep it as per consensus. RaseaC (talk) 00:34, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
Hi, with regards to your deletion message, the only evidence i have that the image is in the public domain is from the author himself, where he mentions it on the Daily Mail article. I don't usually upload images and i'm therefore not familiar with the legitimate procedure, however i started this article and feel that the image is very relevant to the article. How can i obtain a licence or a claim for free use?PhilOak (talk) 17:28, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

Although it's acceptable to use multiple accounts for different purposes, it would be helpful if you were to reveal the name of your primary account. Just as an issue of full disclosure, you understand? DS (talk) 14:39, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Declined Speedy Deletion of Paul Rawlinson
Hi Small-town hero! I just wanted to let you know that I have declined your speedy deletion (by the way, I think you may have meant a G4 speedy deletion than a G6 speedy deletion). The reason is that the prior Paul Rawlinson article that was deleted after an AfD was about a different Paul Rawlinson. The old one was about a dog trainer apparantly (based on the AfD comments) while the current one is about a professional golf player. If you still believe the article should be deleted, please consider a different SD criteria, a PROD, or an AfD. Let me know if you have any questions! Singularity42 (talk) 18:42, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
The Argleton mistery
I would like to withdraw my contribution there, for reasons you may be able to guess. Is there a way to do that without being reverted all the time?
Basically, I did not speculate, which paradoxically why it is better to remove it.
Thanks

I visited your patch on Boxing Day. See the "after" pictures. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 21:40, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
- Nice. :) Which reminds me, I've got loads of pictures from when the gas holder came down. I'll try and upload some when I get time... Small-town hero (talk) 08:05, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
I've taken a bit of a hatchett to the portal- parts of it were in great shape, parts of it were terrible, I thought it best to effectivley start over. Comfortably the best part was the picture section you have created, so I've kept that as it is for now. I'm going to try and create it in tandem with Portal:Lancashire- you're welcome to help out on either, if you're interested, or ignore me if you're not. I'm currently running AWB to find any FAs, GAs or FLs that mention either Cumbria or Lancashire, which I can then filter by hand, hopefully producing two substantial selected article lists. J Milburn (talk) 17:47, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Looks good. :) I see you've already found the bits and bobs I put together the other month; you might also find these lists to be of use. The picture section contains all the Featured/Quality/Valued images I could find either here or on Commons, unfortunately there were none for Lancashire IIRC. The catscan tool is good for finding stuff as well. I'd offer to lend you a hand but I've not had much time for Wikipedia recently, but best of luck with it! Small-town hero (talk) 08:01, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
- I did something similar in terms of scanning for featured/good articles on AWB, and I could find only one FP for Lancashire. (There were also some animal pictures taken in Cumbria, also by Diliff, so I could add them...). The portal's currently at PPR, so I'll probably let that run down, work with any suggestions and add to/clean up the portal generally, then nominate for featured portal status. J Milburn (talk) 12:21, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
Camera
Been looking at different articles from around Lancashire/Merseyside and your name pops up a lot picture wise. Your pictures are excellent. What camera setup are you using? Regards Uksam88 (talk) 19:53, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
West Kilbride
I see you have taken off the warning that local in west kilbride has given about the library closure with the comment - 'not the place for this sort of thing'. While technically that may be so it is important that you do not offend local sensibilities because they are after all facing a threat to their services. I suggest that you think about the comments you leave more thoughtfully. As WKman said - when a library is gone it is gone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Televisionguru (talk • contribs) 12:59, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
- There's nothing technical about it; adding relevant encyclopedic information to the article is one thing, but Wikipedia is not the place to stage a protest. The closure of the library is neither my concern nor Wikipedia's, and if that offends local sensibilities then so be it. My edit to the article was perfectly valid—not least because Wkman had already been reverted once for the same thing by another user—so I suggest you read what Wikipedia is not before trying to tell others how to conduct themselves.
