Do you have a reference that explains who (or what) Marcum is/was? The short paper by Albert Nuttall doesn't mention 'Marcum' and just refers to "The QM" function. Welcome to Wikipedia, Qwfp (talk) 12:56, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

- Well, the paper I mentioned is a short Version of a longer paper by Nuttall with the same title published in Naval Underwater Syst. Center (NUSC) Tech. Rep., May 1974. This might be explained there but I do not have access to that paper. Nutall references to C. W. Helstrom, Statistical Theory of Signal Detection, 2nd ed. New York: Pergamon, 1968, sec. VII, eq. (2.18) in his paper when he defines the function. I can't get my hands on this either. However, in current papers this function is called the Marcum Q-function and the longer Nuttall paper is referenced, for example in Digham et al: On the Energy Detection of Unknown Signals Over Fading Channels, IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS, VOL. 55, NO. 1, JANUARY 2007 SnakeBDD (talk) 13:15, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
