A7. No indication of importance

What is important to one person may be insignificant to others - no? How can editors determine what makes a subject important or significant to the wiki-admins who are the ones who decide if a topic is significant at Wikipedia? Should editors be forced to become politicians just to be able to contribute new articles to Wikipedia? Do they have to watch the NPP patrol closely to learn when certain NPPers and admins are on the prowl? Ottawahitech (talk) 15:09, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

A7 uses "importance or significance" deliberately to show that notability is not required. Of course that's subjective but if an editor understands why A7 was created - i.e. to delete all articles about high-school kids, random people, self-promoting garage bands etc. - this editor knows when to tag and when not (and the admin knows when to delete or when not). There is nothing about having to be a politician in there. A7 is explicitly strict to what can actually be deleted just because a single admin and or NPPer might not determine that subject's significance correctly and thus would otherwise delete it when a PROD/AFD would fail. Of course there are always NPPers and admins who make mistakes - with this criterion much more than with others - but that's what DRV is for. As a contributor, the easiest rule is this: If the article has a reliable source, it almost certainly does not meet A7. Regards SoWhy 15:49, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
