Edit Summary Request
editI have noted that you often edit without an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky or even vandalizing. Also, mentioning one change but not another one can be misleading to someone who finds the other one more important; add "and misc." to cover the other change(s). Thanks! -- Kukini hablame aqui 19:18, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
- Not a problem. Happy editing! --Kukini hablame aqui 19:36, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Buteyko method page
editHi, Spathi,
Thank you for information about the Buteyko method on your pages.
My name is Artour Rakhimov. I trasnlated many Russian Buteyko papers, wrote 2 books about the method (www.normalbreathing.com), which according to world's leading practitioners, is the most comprehensive book in English about the Buteyko method. You can see my many video-lips about Buteyko on GoogleVideo and Youtube.
About editing. I know that western people know maybe about 5-7% of what Buteyko and his 200 Russian doctors found. Are there any possibilities to make major editing of the page? I personally know Peter Kolb (Australia), Andrey Novozshilov and Ludmila Buteyko (both from the Buteyko Clinic in Moscow), Jill McGowan (BIBH), Partick MacKeown, and many other Buteyko people. They know me too and may participate.
Best regards, Dr. Artour Rakhimov www.normalbreathing.com artour_rakhimov@hotmail.com
PS. I did some editing, but reverted all changes (the page is now as before)

— Hi Artour, sorry for the delayed reply. I appreciate that you would like to re-write the Buteyko article completely but the best thing to do is post on the discussion page to suggest changes or improvements to be made!
I have also met many of the people you listed above and although I admit that I am not the foremost expert on Buteyko, it would be nice to keep the Buteyko article citation-driven and serious, whilst maintaining a firm neutral point of view. Spathi (talk) 13:42, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
About the introduction to Buteyko method page
editHi, Spathi, Thank you for your job related to these webpages.
The idea of the method is known for anybody who taught or practiced it, including dozens of Western physicians: to breathe less, while all biochemical discussions are revolving about one chemical: CO2. Hence, it is rather simple it is about breathing more or less, hypoventilation, hyperventilation, both acute and chronic, and about norms for breathing.
It looks unscientific when the topic starts with the Buteyko method as a treatment for asthma, while over 70% of references, see the titles, are about hyperventilation and CO2 with no reference to asthma. In fact, Buteyko himself had more publications on heart disease, hypertension, tone of blood vessels, and other asthma-irrelevant effects.
Hence, the introduction should be kept clear and simple: The Buteyko method or Buteyko Breathing Technique is a holistic health philosophy, primarily to reverse the Chronic Hyperventilation Syndrome.... Which trials were conducted, as well as their results, good or bad, can have a separate entry. I translated other Russian trials, beyond asthma, on hypertension and angina pectoris, rhinitis, chronic tonsillitis, radiation disease, hepatitis and liver cirrhosis. Only Western trials get focused, so far, on asthma.
The definition should not introduce any value system either. Maybe Chronic Hyperventilation is good. But the method is about reversing hyperventilation or hypocapnia only. It is science, not emotions.
Again, look at the titles below, Western references as well, to see what the method is about. Artour2006 (talk) 11:36, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Buteyko
editHi Spathi
I have several images of Buteyko for the Buteyko entry, but am unable to upload them because I don't have permission. Perhaps you can help.
I took the pictures myself at the conference in Gisborne in NZ in December 1999. Out of hundreds of images I've chosen the 7 images that I think are the best.
I will be away for three weeks from 25 July, so if we can't deal with it before hand it will have to wait till after I get back.
Also, I see you have an interest in Chemistry. I've been meaning to complete the Kazarinov paper on "The biochemical basis of KP Buteyko's theory on the diseases of deep respiration" which is not yet complete on my web site. I don't know if you are familiar with Chemsketch, but I just haven't been able to get on top of it. We need to draw structures such as the Krebs cycle. Perhaps you know someone who can give me a hand.
I've added a section to the discussion board on Buteyko.
Best wishes
Peter Kolb
More on Buteyko
editHi Spathi
I've just seen your latest entry on the discussion board. I'm not sure where to put the following:
I’m delighted, at last, to get an editor interested in Buteyko. I made some major changes to the Buteyko site several years ago, just before I registered. (The changes were made anonymously, because I didn’t know how to register.) It was a difficult task because the material was so bad and uninformed that it was almost impossible to weave fixes into it. It would have been so much easier to work from a clean sheet.
All the material I put in there was very carefully referenced. Unfortunately with all the subsequent editing, the original material disappeared and just the references were left. I was really pretty disheartened and gave up on Wikipedia. By the way I also added the Russian bibliography. It is not really a reference list, but it serves two important purposes. The first is that it reminds people that important scientific work lies behind the Buteyko method, even if it is hard to access in the west. The second is that it provides a reference for further research by those intellectuals in the community, such as Artour, who really want to learn more about the science behind the method. Having said that, I'll fall in with you and concede to the removal of the references if there is that much objection to them. Perhaps I can use that as a bargaining chip to win other concessions from you :o)
Although there have been clinical trials reported in the western medical literature, we still do not have articles explaining the method in scientific terms. This means that the “scientific” content of the information available is confined purely to the statistical analysis of placebo controlled trials.
There is plenty of material available on chronic hyperventilation, but it remains the black sheep of the medical family, with doctors ignoring it completely. And therein lies the problem. This is why we believe that medicine has failed to find the cause of asthma.
I just want to make it plain, Spathi, that the Buteyko method is aimed squarely at reducing breathing, at reversing chronic hyperventilation exactly like Artour says. There is no black magic in Buteyko. The sole goal is to raise CO2 levels. And it is important that this appears in the introduction, even if you leave out the physiological explanations from the introduction. The consequences of chronic hyperventilation are a massive derangement of normal biochemistry, poor oxygenation of the tissues and a state of living with some or all of the fight or flight symptoms. Have a look at the paper written by cardiologist Claude Lum and also the one by Magarian, both of which should appear in the reference list and are available from my web site: http://members.westnet.com.au/pkolb.
I may be able to start work at revising the Buteyko entry a little later this week.

Buteyko Picture
editI've sent a picture to the commons(?), and it is now available. It's way too big and I don't know how to make it smaller (They ask for high resolution pictures). Perhaps you could add it to the Buteyko entry for me. File = Buteyko.jpg.
Peter Kolb (talk) 11:55, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I've just been informed that there is something wrong with the license. I've just spent two and a half hours trying to gift a picture to Wikipedia, and I still haven't gotten it right. I just totally give up!
Please get Buteyko pictures from.....
editPlease collect any or all of the Buteyko pictures from: (I have the negatives) http://members.westnet.com.au/pkolb/arrival.jpg http://members.westnet.com.au/pkolb/B_CV.jpg http://members.westnet.com.au/pkolb/B_PORT1.jpg http://members.westnet.com.au/pkolb/B_sings.jpg http://members.westnet.com.au/pkolb/But_Pic.jpg http://members.westnet.com.au/pkolb/Win2.jpg
I have plenty more I can scan for you.
Also, I won't be able to access the Buteyko page for the next five weeks or so. But if you have any questions send me an email to pkolb@westnet.com.au.
I've done the theory and posted it on the discussion board.
