editHello, I'm ThaddeusSholto. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Mamy Ravatomanga, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! ThaddeusSholto (talk) 18:29, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, thank you very much for the precision, however, the information I have added is correcting the date of birth which is incorrect. Is there a way to correct this as citing a reliable source is not possible due to the information not being available online due to geological location. If need be the ID is available for upload if that can proof the veracity of the information to be corrected. Spectroplasm (talk) 18:47, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
- How come you have access to this person's ID? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 06:35, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, after countless attempts to correct the date of birth, and after many reverts done due to insufficient source to prove the date is wrong, I ended up contacting local administration offices here in the country in order to get information as to whether 1969 or 1968 is the correct date of birth of the person being cited in the living person biography. Spectroplasm (talk) 07:57, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- And they just provided you with the private personal details of someone unconnected to you? Or do you have some sort of connection?
- In any case, Wikipedia requires published sources. Administrative records do not count, however accurate and reliable they may be. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 08:02, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for clarifying the requirements for Wikipedia and for the administrative records not counting as a source too. I do not have any connection the person, but as Wikipedia is an open encyclopedia where anyone is free to contribute to edit articles, I have been trying to edit to this article in order to correct few errors like the date of birth, as well as add more information about the person in general as he is a well known figure in the country of Madagascar. Spectroplasm (talk) 08:24, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, let me try asking this way: how did you know that the date of birth was wrong, if it was so difficult for you to find evidence of this? You must have known the correct (?) DOB from somewhere other than published sources. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 08:29, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- The original article creator has included a source labelled [3] in the biography section just after the text "It is now a conglomerate with activities in oil maintenance, construction, the press, hotels, tourism, health, and import-export" inside that published source the date of birth and place of birth is correct, meaning it is 1968 and not 1969. I have used that same source in order to correct wrong date of birth in the article but it was not accepted. So how is it possible that a source that a previous user provided can no longer be used to correct text in the article. This is the reason why I wrote in response to the user ThaddeusSholto if there is a way to provide other proofs that the written text is wrong. Spectroplasm (talk) 08:48, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- I see.
- I have another question: all your edits, both here and on the French-language Wikipedia, have to do with this Maminiaina (Mamy) Ravatomanga person – how did you pick that subject? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:39, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Madagascar is a country that speaks 2 official languages being Malagasy and French, and sometimes English. I came across the French version of the article first through a google search on the subject of ongoing political issues here in Madagascar and this is how I found the article. Upon reading it in its entirety I have proceeded to add my contribution in editing them. It seems however that whoever created the pages, are only creating them for political reasons as almost all of the information put into the biography are very political and not presented as a real biography portraying the living person in a neutral way, who in this case is Maminiaina Ravatomanga. And oddly enough, with every effort I have tried to add information to the article it is taken down by the author RougeLitchi. This has gone to the point where the author has left a rather menacing message on my french talk page which I quote :
- "Bonjour Spectroplasm,
- Merci de ne plus effectuer de modifications non encyclopédiques sur Wikipédia, car cela est considéré comme du vandalisme et un administrateur pourra vous empêcher d'écrire sur l’ensemble de Wikipédia."
- Is it against Wikipedia rules to edit someone's article as in doing so will be considered vandalism?
- I have read through the history of edits the reasons of reversion of my contributions from the same person and all I can honestly see is they do not want the article to be touched at all in any way whether it is minor edit or adding information to the biography timeline. Spectroplasm (talk) 12:08, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Without knowing (because I haven't looked) what the edits were that this user objected to, I cannot comment on whether they were okay or not, but in general terms there is certainly no reason why you wouldn't be allowed to edit that article, as long as your edits are supported by reliable sources. Nobody should be telling you not to edit it as no one 'owns' any article on Wikipedia. There is also a big difference between an edit being disagreeable to someone, and that edit constituting vandalism, which has a very specific (and serious) meaning on Wikipedia. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 12:28, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- The edits that I have brought to the French version of the article were the same as the ones I have brought to the English version, including proper sources where sources are due. Only, the reason why I have moved onto the English version is after receiving such remark on my profile talk page, objecting me from ever editing the article the author has created or else I will be considered vandalizing their article and run the risk of being banned from editing on Wikipedia ever again. I do not wish to have any problem with anyone here, nor do I want to edit things just for the fun of annoying someone. This is why I am asking all the questions as to what or what is okay and not okay to do on Wikipedia.
- the history holds all the edits I have ever done on the English and French articles along with the reasons why I made such edits including any sources I have added too. But on each reversion, I have been tagged with unsourced material from the authors yet I have put adequate sources to the things I have added. Spectroplasm (talk) 12:41, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hello! The article in French was subject to repeated modifications by users and IPs whose modifications are mainly concentrated on this page (including Spectroplasme) with self-sourcing, the deletion of controversial passages and the addition of passages promotional, all canceled.
- I did not create this page for political reasons but only for information purposes. Please notify me the next time you talk about me ). RougeLitchi (talk) 11:27, 6 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for joining us in the conversation. As for the modifications, I have not deleted anything on the biography page, rather, I have modified it to have more information about the person's professional and entrepreneurial curriculum because, as you have said, the page is for information purposes. The extra sources cited in my later modifications also rectified the self-sourcing flag and certain errors. Speaking of which, you made a typo in my name, there is no 'e' at the end.
