New Expression: isocialate isocialation isocialating
editI just joined WP and am unfamiliar with proper protocol etc. I wanted to introduce an expression I came up with which may be unique. Did numerous searches online and haven’t seen anything - yet. The expression is “isocialate”: it combines the words “isolation” and “social.” It’s general meaning refers to the perceived state of feeling isolated while engaging in activities ostensibly intended to create a feeling of authentic social connection. An example of its application is the frequent oxymoronic experience of “social media use” (SMU) as away to counteract “perceived social isolation” (PSI).
This is discussed in-depth in the study “Social Media Use and Perceived Social Isolation Among Young Adults in the U.S.”, published in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine.
