Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to living or recently deceased subjects of biographical content on Wikipedia articles, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. Edit summaries when reverting, please

Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. CarsonNicodemus doesn't seem to be a vandal, and the edit I had seen before asking for edit summaries was also not vandalism, so please either increase the bar before calling something "vandalism" (assuming malice) or start using edit summaries even for cases where you think it is probably vandalism. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 19:20, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
