Following up your post at the Village Pump, in case you don't spot the reply, you might like to try turning on navigation popups - they're in "my preferences", under the "gadgets" tab. This gives a popup box for any link when you mouse over it, including the first image and the first paragraph or so of the text. It's not perfect, but it works 95% of the time - the first sentence and first paragraph are usually a good essential summary of the content of the article.
