feedback for the fire class

edit
  • Working on the fire regime article is a good idea. Another student is working on the Fire triangle article and will bring in concepts of fire regime. The current article mentions the common attributes of a disturbance regime (Picket and White 1985) but does not discuss all of the factors that contributes to a fire regime. (that is, climate, vegetation type, topography, and ignitions).
  • Don't make the article too heavy on invasive species impacts on fire regime. If it goes over 25% of the total article it should probably go into its own page.
  • See the external link I added to the Fire regime page (Landfire). It is a mapping of fire regimes for the USA that discusses the concept of fire regime and departure from historical fire regime.
  • You may want to copy the entire article into your sandbox (copy the raw text box, not the visual editor, so you keep the references). Then you can work away on the article.

Great choice of topic and very nice contributions. It is clear you put a lot of work into your research and found a lot of useful sources. A few brief notes on how I think you can improve the article even more...

Section 1.1 Fire Regime Characteristics does an excellent job at discussing the various important features that constitute a fire regime; however, it is a little difficult to follow with all the terminology that is packed into such a short section. I'm not sure if a chart (similar that which you recommended for me) with the definitions of fire types, fire rotation, seasonality etc. would be a solution? It just seems slightly overwhelming.

Also, for this section about characteristics, it might be better to begin with or re-word the statement that is currently your conclusion about fire regimes not having a standard classification as it sort of contradicts all that you mention above about the characteristics of fire regimes... and have you already read over Agee's definitions of fire regimes? https://www.firescience.gov/projects/09-2-01-9/supdocs/09-2-01-9_Chapter_3_Fire_Regimes.pdf

I like the mention of climate change as a driver for changing fire regimes. Though it is stated that climate has always impacted fire regimes, perhaps you might want to include a graph that depicts the just how suddenly things are changing?

Everything is looking good! I'm happy to give your draft another read through before the submission deadline if you would like. Friendly fire (talk) 07:29, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
