Dr. Maharaj Muthoo, of Indian origin, is a specialist in natural resources management, environment and energy, ecosytems services and eco-development, forestry and land use, food security and livelihoods, human development and international cooperation. He has a doctorate in development economics from Oxford University and is involved with several academic and research institutes worldwide, inculding the inter-university centre for sustainable development. He has lived and worked in all the continents, including Brazil, India, Guyana, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Suriname, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom and USA. He has worked as a senior manager, team leader, moderator and advisor for Governments, inter-governmental organizations and the United Nations System, including the British DFID, US Child Fund International, FAO of the UN, Indian Civil Service and the UNDP. He is currently a member, trustee or chairman of intergovernmental, international and national organizations and academic centres, including those based in Bejing, Geneva, India, Japan, New York, Rome and Vienna. The word "Holistic" was designed and developed by Dr. Muthoo and then got adopted and included in dictionaries, including the Oxford English Dictionary ab-initio. He is, inter-alia, committed to issues of green economy and human well-being and follows the paradigm of parallel convergence and holistic development -globally and nationally
