Category fix - help please
Hi Hesperian. I've made a boo boo - I've created a category for Films shot in New York but I should have made it Films shot in New York City. There doesn't seem to be a Move tab for Categories. Before I do any more work adding articles to it, can you tell me how I can fix it, please? I'm guessing it's a bit more complicated than for articles. Sterry2607 (talk) 12:31, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
- G'day, nice to hear from you. Yeah, unfortunately the only fix for this is to create the new category, recategorise all the articles, then delete the old, empty, unneeded category. I've done all that for you. If something like this happens again, you can do the first two steps yourself, then drop me a line to do the deletion. Hesperian 12:48, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
- You're very welcome. Categories need moving all the time; it's no big deal. Hesperian 10:57, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
I ask for help again
Hi Hesperian, Just some advice (I think). I've been watching the article/stub for Aussie poet Kevin Hart. Over time there have been fairly subjective statements made, some positive some negative - uncited - that have come and gone. There is currently a pretty negative personal opinion sounding statement that I removed yesterday noting that it was uncited and inappropriate without substantiation. Today it has been added again. I can't talk directly to the editor as it's an IP address rather than a registered user. What should be the course of action? If this is not your area please let me know who I should contact. - Sorry about the belated response; I haven't been online. Gosh, that's a nasty comment! When it comes to matters like this, the usual rules such as the three-revert rule give way to the imperative of our biographies of living persons policy, which is designed both to protect the encyclopedia from lawsuits, and to meet our ethical responsibility to treat our subjects with common decency and dignity. You should feel free to revert crap like that just as often as you want; you will never be taken to task for edit warring over it.
- I have reverted, and will put the article on my watchlist. If it comes to my attention that this is going on and on and on, I'll semi-protect the article for a while. Most likely, though, our IP friend will get bored and go away.
- Having said all that, IPs do have talk pages, so you can try talking to him/her if you think it worth a shot: User talk:72.48.81.217. In this case the IP appears to be neither dynamic nor shared, so there should be no trouble getting a message through. Or you can put a message on the article talk page, and revert with "see discussion page" in your edit summary - that sometimes works.

- Happy to help, any time. Hesperian 10:51, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Not a prob. Hesperian 06:19, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm just trying to take the wind out of this dufus's sails. Dufus pretends to be trying to improve the balance of the article. I show them how they could have done so without being vindictive. Dufus is left with no excuse for his vindictiveness. Feel free to revert me if you think it not an improvement - I didn't put a great deal of thought into the edit and am quite prepared to trust your judgment on it.
