Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia:
- Respect copyrights – do not copy and paste text or images directly from other websites.
- Maintain a neutral point of view – this is one of Wikipedia's core policies.
- Take particular care while adding biographical material about a living person to any Wikipedia page and follow Wikipedia's Biography of Living Persons policy. Particularly, controversial and negative statements should be referenced with multiple reliable sources.
- No edit warring or abuse of multiple accounts.
- If you are testing, please use the Sandbox to do so.
- Do not add troublesome content to any article, such as: copyrighted text, libel, advertising or promotional messages, and text that is not related to an article's subject; doing so will result in your account or IP being blocked from editing.
- Do not use talk pages as discussion or forum pages as Wikipedia is not a forum.
The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! - Thanks a lot! Very glad to be here. Everyone seems very welcoming, and I will continue to familiarize myself with the guidelines and best practices. Steve Negus (talk) 17:52, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution
edit Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from New Policies (Song dynasty) into Wang Anshi. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution
. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 14:35, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you. I will read the guidelines and provide attribution to the original contributors.
- Steve Negus (talk) 15:15, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- It looks like you already added the attribution note to the Wang Anshi page. I very much appreciate that. I check some other edits to see if I copied text from one article to another, but is there anything else to do at this point regarding Wang Anshi? Thank you again. AfC notification: Draft:Gebre Selassie Welde Aragay has a new comment
edit- Thanks! Steve Negus (talk) 16:14, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review of the draft. The two citations that you mentioned are, in fact, fairly brief mentions that provide commentary from Aragay's chronicle but do not say more about Aragay himself. I had added this page because I find it interesting who the primary sources are for the reigns of pre-modern and early modern African states. However, if the sources provided do not satisfy Wikipedia's requirements for notability, I understand holding off on this page until I can find more sourcing.
- I wasn't sure if I should place this in the text alongside the comment, but I can add this to the draft's talk page. Steve Negus (talk) 17:25, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
Your submission at Articles for creation: Gebre Selassie Welde Aragay (January 6)

- If you do not edit your draft in the next 6 months, it will be considered abandoned and may be deleted.
- If you need any assistance, or have experienced any untoward behavior associated with this submission, you can ask for help at the Articles for creation help desk, on the reviewer's talk page or use Wikipedia's real-time chat help from experienced editors.
- Thank you for the review. I don't have access to the Marcus book right now, but the subject (spelled as Gabra-Selasse) is quoted at the bottom of page 72 in Zewde's book- "the starving flocked to Entoto etc."
- I recognize now however that citations of his chronicle do not meet Wikipedia's standard of "significant" coverage, and will hold off until I can find more information. Steve Negus (talk) 01:59, 7 January 2023 (UTC)
