I've tried my hand at editing the plot summaries of a couple of movies while watching them. I've often found these summaries to be inaccurate in reflecting the actual plot of the film. Now I find that many of my edits on my most recent film have been undone. The person who did this wrote the following comment: "Please stop bloating the plot. There is no consensus to increase the word length beyond 700 words." I was unaware of any word limit. I was trying to keep the elements of the original summary while correcting factual or contextual errors and making other changes for the sake of clarity. Is 700 words a usual limit for such summaries? The film, Ben-Hur, is 3.5 hrs. long, so you might expect the summary to be fairly long.

Do you have any advice on what is expected from editors in such a case?

Also, I'm not sure how talk pages work. How do I get to your talk page, and how do I leave a message on yours or mine?

I figured out how things work a bit. I was able to contact the editor who disputed my changes, and we worked things out. She sent me a guide that mentioned the 700-page limit. I have since rewritten the summary accordingly. Stevebal (talk) 17:29, 28 March 2026 (UTC)
