Editing from a blocked IP

edit
  • I often fo my Wikipedia browsing and editing from a school network. The school network has been IP blocked. While I believe this block is justified, it prevents me from editing even when logged in. You can verify that I will contribute construtivly and not abuse editing priveledges by looking at my account on the Team Fortress 2 Wiki. This account was made to replace my old account, Stevoisiak, for which I have since lost the password for. If the block on IP address 66.206.115.182 could be changed to a {{anonblock}} or {{schoolblock}}, I would greatly appreciate it. --Stevoisiake (talk) 16:36, 1 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Looking at the block log, when the block was placed in February editing by logged in users was allowed ("anon only"), but on 18 Mar the blocking admin specifically changed the block to prevent it. I will ask him why he did that. JohnCD (talk) 20:03, 1 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
It seems that students were making accounts at home and using them disruptively from the school. However, your record is good, so I have given you IP block exemption which will allow you to edit from school. Take great care to safeguard your password, and do not leave any terminal unattended while logged in. JohnCD (talk) 20:53, 1 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello Stevoisiak, noticed your noticeboard question. That place archives quickly, so you fell off the frontpage, but your question was answered:

Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Archive257#Transfer_to_or_closure_of_old_account

I've also put the link in the section-title here for you. Let me know if you have trouble getting your usernames reassigned to your satisfaction.

See also, one of the paragraphs here -- Help:Logging_in#What_if_I_forget_the_password.3F -- "create a new account under a different username ((you already did this)). After doing this, if a user page and user talk page were created for the old account ((they were)), it is advisable to make them redirect to the equivalent pages for the new account." But instead, *you* want to password-reset the *old* uid Steviosiak... and then make the *new* uid Steviosiake redirect to the freshly-revived *old* uid, right? Make sure the Bureaucrat understands your exact goal. Help:Reset_password is prolly no good for you now, I presume.

p.s. Also, you should (right now) prolly informally "link" the two accounts, by putting a message on both userpages or both talkpages, saying something simple like "User_talk:Stevoisiak and User_talk:Stevoisiake are the same humanoid" or the equivalent. Hope this helps, thanks for improving wikipedia. 74.192.84.101 (talk) 07:05, 29 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Nintendo and fan games

edit

Hello @Stevoisiake Just to say that a couple days ago, you contribute what it seems to be list of works that has been taken down by Nintendo however, I removed it and move the sources to the article's talk page which within almost a hour, you re-added to the article which I decided not to remove and instead discuss with you about this. What you made in the article isn't necessary to create with it's lack of prose, mostly trivial and one of the works doesn't have a reference which are things that doesn't follow with WP:LISTDD. I would recommend to either merge the section with the history section or improve the section into something like what Unofficial Sonic media list have. NatwonTSG2 (talk) 02:37, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello @NatwonTSG2. I believe the list format is helpful for providing a list of examples where Nintendo has taken down fangames in the past. To address your points, I went with a list instead of prose due to the large amount of takedown examples. I believe having a comprehensive list of fan-games taken down by Nintendo is relevant and non-trivial information for an article regarding Nintendo's stance on fan-games, as it can include smaller examples that may not be significant enough for the history section without making it too lengthy. I admit the individual bullets I provided could use a bit more detail on the projects themselves, but I believe the list format provides valuable and useful information that would be difficult to concisely convey as prose. Stevoisiak (talk) 19:08, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Okay you did make a good reason however, I still believe the list is mostly trivial and you probably either should remove the list entirely or blow it up and start over. And no, games that may not be significant enough doesn't have to be included in the history and list section and you don't need a comprehensive list of fan-games taken down by Nintendo to be relevant and non-trivial. For now, I would recommend you discuss other users about the list format maybe we might find out if. NatwonTSG2 (talk) 21:14, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
