 Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at firstβ€”it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Reading a lot and finding things as I go. Managed to do a few things that lead to a few other things, etc. I will be back with questions. I am sure I will get stuck on something StinkyTrashCat (talk) 05:21, 18 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Community Friends?

edit

I feel bad calling you a stinkytrashcat, but I’d like to start over. We both seem to have a passion for helping Wikipedia readers find the information they’re looking for.

My name is Duane by way of Indiana but moved a little north of their for retirement.

How can we get on the same page and be community friends? Bbqfanatic (talk) 01:02, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Nice to virtually meet you Duane! I certainly hope that I am not discouraging you from editing Wikipedia because we need more people like you and me editing to make sure as mush of the information on here is accurate and reliable.
I started a thread on your talk page to explain what I did and why, so you don't get discouraged from editing in the future, but it seems that backfired. Please don't take my comments personally - that is just how Wikipedia works. The reliability standards are high for a reason and I have been a user for 10 years so I am privy to a lot of the shenanigans that go on here. I always do what I think is best.
I hope we will become editing buddies in the future and wish you the best of luck in everything that you do. Sending positive vibes your way! Absolutely no hard feelings on my end. StinkyTrashCat (talk) 01:11, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, Stinky (LOL). No hard feelings here but I still do not know which website you were referring to that I was wrongfully citing. I have been editing many pages and have done a lot of due diligence before placing citations but happy to correct any mistakes I have made. I just want to understand so I don’t do it again and so I can learn. Bbqfanatic (talk) 01:16, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please stop. If you continue to assume bad faith when dealing with other editors, you may be blocked from editing. Assume that they are here to improve rather than harm Wikipedia. The comment If you think complaining to other users is going to help you - rather than communicating with me, then you have a long way to go is beyond unacceptable BITING behavior. You're a new editor, too, and your patience and civility must improve if you desire to positively impact this project. You came to an amicable agreement with BBQfanatic; this was charity on their part. ~ Pbritti (talk) 16:24, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

@PbrittiLet's agree to disagree on who came to an amicable agreement with @Bbqfanatic. I was courteous enough to let them know why their edits were removed. I was also courteous enough to respond to all their messages and help them understand what is happening. I also clearly mentioned that I am not trying to disparage them from editing and was the one who was calming things down. While I will take your comments into consideration. That is not going to deter me from removing edits that I think were done in bad faith. Your message feels like an unwarranted threat because of a few edits that were removed by me and borderline gaslighting. Please stop messaging me regarding this issue. I already explained what I did and why I did it. StinkyTrashCat (talk) 18:21, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Bad faith? You still have not told me which website you are referring to so I’m not able to learn what to look out for outside of checking for media and journalist mentions before citing any source. Bbqfanatic (talk) 18:38, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
