The article Pinfire cartridge has a paragraph on Current Status, and a paragraph with External Links. The last sentence in the Current Status includes a link to a retailer web page. It sounds like it was added to get visitors to that web page and sell these items.

The paragraph with External Links are neither to pages with proper information or sources, nor to pages with historic records of the now more or less obsolete Pinfire Cartridge. They are links to various retailers.

All these links were added from unregistered IP addresses.

Question 1: Should these links to retailers stay or should they be removed? They add no information, it would seem the links only there to get visitors to click the retailer links.

Question 2: All these retailer links have been added by unregistered IP-addresses. Is that reason enough to request that the page be made semi-protected, so that non-registered users can't edit it?

I agree the links seem useless. What I would do is
  • Remove the offending links.
  • If someone adds them back, see if they have reasons on the talk page.
  • If there seems no reason, and re-adding persists, request semi-protection. This is a last resort since many IPs edit Wikipedia productively.

What do I do with article removal notification after it's been resolved? - Resolved

Dai Pritchard recently helped me with removing a few improperly cross linked articles. When this was done, I got an article removal notification in my "talk" section. Do I need some kind of permission to remove this now that the question has been resolved, or do I just delete it all? I've read through the various intro pages, but, whether I'm not smart enough to see it or if the information isn't there, I can't find what to do after the subject has been resolved. The page I believe you're looking for is WP:OWNTALK, which covers stuff you can do to your own talk page. As the page says, [t]he removal of a warning is taken as evidence that the warning has been read by the user. However, you don't have to remove the warning; among other things, it provides a record to other users and yourself that you received it. APerson (talk!) 15:22, 9 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
