editConflict of Interest Disclosure: I have a conflict of interest arising from my ownership interest in Suburban Express, Inc. As a result of my conflict of interest, I refrain from editing the Suburban Express article but (intend to once my username change has been completed) edit the Suburban Express talk section, with the goal of ensuring that false statements and bad citations do not appear in the Suburban Express article.

edit- Why can't I edit Wikipedia?
Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.
- Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?
Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.
- What can I do now?
If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.
If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:
- Add the text
{{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
on your user talk page. - Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
- Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:52, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
{{unblock|[User:Orangemike] please have a look at the Administrator's Noticeboard, where there is a lengthy discussion regarding CorporateM edits to the Suburban Express page. Please also have a look at the
section towards the bottom where I discuss my efforts to create a username compliant with wikipedia policies. My intent in registering Suburban Express President was to create a username which makes my affiliation transparent - in response to claims of sockpuppetry - following criticism that editing from an ip *.113 -- which you have now blocked -- made it unclear if one person or multiple individuals were editing. Your *assumption* that the account was created for some sort of promotional purpose has no basis in fact. It was created to continue the discussion in the administrator's noticeboard and on the Suburban Express talk page. I have promised the Administrator's noticeboard addiional information. But now I can't post i because yu have blocked the username that I created in response to criticism over use of IP AND the ip address itself.}}

I've readily granted the unblock because it was based solely on your username and because your proposed new username (as far as I can see) is wholly without problems. Since you've been editing topics closely related to your real-life activities, you must be extremely cautious about continuing these edits; you'll have the easiest time if you simply avoid the issue altogether. Let me remind you to be extremely careful in following our policies on conflicts of interest ("WP:COI"), advertising ("WP:SPAM"), and neutral point of view ("WP:NPOV"). If you resume editing articles related to Suburban Express and if others see your actions as violations of the COI, SPAM, and NPOV policies, you'll probably be blocked again, but unlike this block that I've just removed, a block for violating these policies will likely not be removed. Nyttend (talk) 02:01, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
- In addition to that, please do be careful that your additional information is limited to areas for improvements, as further attacks against other users will also lead to a removal of editing privileges. For example, "we feel the discussion has been taken over by haters" is way out. MLauba (Talk) 02:12, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
- Something like "Arri at Suburban Express" ought to conform to the username policy, while making the editor's COI obvious to all. —rybec 02:30, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
"Suburban Express President" is a role, not a human being. As Rybec says, "Arri at Suburban Express" would have been okay, under what we call the "Mark at Alcoa" rule. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:23, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
- This editor has already filed at WP:CHU/S so the problem is being addressed. EdJohnston (talk) 15:41, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

edit When adding links to material on external sites, as you did to Talk:Suburban Express, please ensure that the external site is not violating the creator's copyright. Linking to websites that display copyrighted works is acceptable as long as the website's operator has created or licensed the work. Knowingly directing others to a site that violates copyright may be considered contributory infringement. This is particularly relevant when linking to sites such as YouTube, where due care should be taken to avoid linking to material that violates its creator's copyright. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe the linked site is not violating copyright with respect to the material, then you should do one of the following:
- If the linked site is the copyright holder, leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page;
- If a note on the linked site credibly claims permission to host the material, or a note on the copyright holder's site grants such permission, leave a note on the article Talk page with a link to where we can find that note;
- If you are the copyright holder or the external site administrator, adjust the linked site to indicate permission as above and leave a note on the article Talk page;
If the material is available on a different site that satisfies one of the above conditions, link to that site instead. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:01, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
- The 23 and 29 year old articles for which I provided links are not available online. It's hard for anyone to write a balanced article when important sources on a subject are unavaialble online. I'll ping my IP attorney and see if he believes the posting constitutes fair-use. I'll also ping the two newspapers and see if they'll grant written permission for me to post articles about Suburban Express on the Suburban Express website. I imagine they'll readily grant permission, if I can reach the correct person. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Suburban_Express_President (talk • contribs)

- I have contacted the two newspapers and am seeking permission. However for such an old and very narrow use this is a fair use. These sources are not available online and this content is required for me to be able to make a statutorily relevant criticism comment news reporting and teaching use of the material pursuant to 17 U.S.C. § 106. I have consulted with my legal counsel and am more than willing to take any potential infringement risk. I would like to re-post links to relevant conventional-media sources on the Suburban Express talk page only, while still waiting for my name change to go through, to facilitate research. I'd appreciate some feedback on this. User:OrangeMikeUser:SlimVirginSuburban Express President (talk) 16:18, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- This issue isn't so much your exposure to liability as much as it's Wikipedia's exposure to liability and Wikipedia's formal policy designed to discourage copyright infringement. And the Wikipedia community wouldn't accept an indemnification from you even if you offered one. And on top of that this is definitely not fair use, despite your statements to the contrary. If your lawyer tells you otherwise then you need a new lawyer. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 17:40, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- The attorney in question is a very successful and well-regarded IP attorney based in San Jose who has successfully litigated several IP and domain matters for me. Suburban Express President (talk) 19:20, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Makes no difference. If they said it's fair use then they don't know that particular area of the law. Better to be safe than sorry. Of course if you have the newspaper's permission then the fair use issue is moot. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 19:25, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Are we talking about the same thing? I am talking about temporarily making available *via the talk page only* old sources. I am not talking about links intended to appear in the article. Please clarify. The matter is moot with regard to Daily Illini, however, there are three relevant newspapers, and we spend much less with the two who have not yet replied. Suburban Express President (talk) 19:29, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- I don't think it makes a difference whether the link is in the article or the talk page, either from a Wikipedia policy or a legal standpoint, but it's true that you'll probably raise less ire putting the link on the talk page only. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 19:43, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
Moments after posting the prior message, I received permission from Daily Illini to post pdf's of old Suburban Express articles (ie ones which are not on their website) on our website, in the history section which we are developing. Therefore, this pdf of a Daily Illini Article is now available on the Suburban Express webserver at [url removed by SEP] . I would like to post this in the talk section of the Suburban Express article using my current username, for which there is a pending change that will make the name compliant with wp:role. Suburban Express President (talk) 16:31, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Remember that, per OrangeMike's initial comment, you need to post your permission from the Daily Illini on your website. In addition, since you're expressly using the article in a self-serving manner, an e-mail from a Daily Illini staffer wouldn't be enough to establish the credibility of the license. In my view a letter from the staffer with a hand-signed signature would be sufficient. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 17:54, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

COI disclosures
editHi. Have you given thought to the COI suggestions I made (here, here) and you said you'd consider? --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 18:14, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Been kind of busy responding to bans and blocks and copyright challenges and whatnot. After name change is done and before any posts are made anywhere, COI will be disclosed. Suburban Express President (talk) 19:08, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- That's certainly understandable. You've been receiving quite the education the last few days. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 19:11, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Question
editHi, you posted on WP:AN that the article about your company contained errors and false citations. If you tell me what those errors are, I'll remove them. If there are a lot, just start with one or two obvious ones. You can post here; I'll look out for it. SlimVirgin (talk) 18:13, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you for contacting me. I will proceed with that project on asap. I delayed it because I am waiting for new username, and I didn't want to do all the research and have it made irrelevant/somewhat incorrect by intervening edits. Unfortuantely, I'm heading out of town tomorrow and will be gone through Sunday. Thanks again. Suburban Express President (talk) 18:33, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
