Mannlicher M1885 bayonet
editHello, I see that you removed the bayonet image from the Werndl–Holub rifle article. I'm interested in the apparent differences between the Werndl and Mannlicher bayonets, could you explain them to me? Thanks. --M11rtinb (talk) 11:54, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- @M11rtinb:, Hello, of course but first sorry for my poor english. If we comparison the last Werndl bayonet (M1873) with first Mannlicher bayonet (M1885), the biggest difference is that M1885 have 2 rivets on the crossguard. M1885 have wooden grip (I read that M1873 from year 1881 also have wooden grips but i never see that example) and 2 rivets with washers in grip (in M1873 are 3 rivets without washers). M1885 should have serial number on crossguard beetwen rivets. Lock mechanism in this bayonets also looks very diffrance. Mannlicher M1885 is very rare bayonet and I met with opinions that it is "prototype" produced in a short series. After M1885 in Austro-Hungary we have typical mannlicher short knife bayonets (M1886, M1888, M1890, M1895, M1890/95). The best comparison is given by photos - Werndl M1873 : http://bajo.cz.sweb.cz/sklad_1/r-u_1873.pdf , Mannlicher M1885 (N.C.O. version) : http://bajo.cz.sweb.cz/sklad_1/r-u_1885podd.pdf Greetings Sumek101 (talk) 15:31, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
Regarding suitable template representing Austria-Hungary
editHello. Thanks for providing awareness regarding the issue of using the civilian naval ensign as representative of Austria-Hungary and also providing alternate solutions for it, despite it not being the actual state/national flag. I always got annoyed by people putting the civilian naval flag in several articles and videos as the representative flag of Austria-Hungary.
A few months ago, when I was searching in Wikipedia for the belligerents of the Russian Civil War, I noticed in the infobox that instead of using the usual naval ensign to represent Austria-Hungary, the flag of the Austrian part of the Empire (which was also that of the former Austrian Empire) was used. I was shocked but also delighted that for the first time, I'm seeing a suitable alternative being used as a template representing the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
However, I would like to consider the second alternative that you've proposed to be used as the suitable alternative for the Empire in my opinion, especially the second template within the second alternative. Because that's the best alternative template that I was thinking of, doing justice for the Hungarian part of the Empire as well.
As for the first template within the second alternative, I don't see it as suitable, as it would be weird to use it in infoboxes representing the Empire.
That's all I have to say regarding this issue. Thanks for bringing this issue into awareness!

- @2409:4072:587:19CA:0:0:EED:18B1: Hello, thank you for the kind words, sorry to reply so late, but I rarely look at the en wiki. The use of a civilian ensign to represent Austria-Hungary is unfortunately a nightmare myth that has no substantive justification and which is very difficult to eradicate. I try to fight it, but often meet with complete misunderstanding. For example, on wikimedia commons I have been trying for a long time to change the name of this flag to the correct name (instead of the misleading "Austro-Hungarian flag"), but despite presenting a number of undisputed sources (including Austro-Hungarian documents from the era) administrators ignore this and create there's his own version of history repeating this myth.
- As for the use of the Habsburg flag in infoboxes... It is not a good solution, but I do not see a better solution at the moment. There was no official state flag in this country which is related to the problem of what symbol to choose for infoboxes. A hybrid flag would be fine, but could be misinterpreted by unfamiliar users who might think it was a "real" flag. Therefore, I chose the Habsburg flag because of their dominant role in the empire. I'm not able to reply to you on the same page, so I decided to reply to you on a new page.
Oh I see. I feel sorry for you.
Actually, I've seen a lot of WW1 propaganda posters showing almost always the Habsburg/Austrian flag (black yellow one) and quite interestingly enough, other drawings and posters show the Hungarian flag as well, along with the Austrian flag. So I guess you can just use the Austrian flag to represent the entire "dual monarchy" (because like, the Emperor of Austria was also the King of Hungary, just like with other domains such as Bohemia, Moravia, Galicia etc. except that only Hungary has been granted more freedoms than other nationalities in that empire). Gosh darn it Austria-Hungary always complicates things. SameerHasanBasha (talk) 04:25, 9 September 2022 (UTC)
