A.F.C. Wimbledon

edit

Looking at the good article criteria I would say that it is necessary to get a lot more references, particularly for statements like 'astonishingly large crowd', 'asset stripping' etc that really do need them. Presumbably all the records, scores, league positions etc. are online somewhere and so could get inline references. Also you could add more images easily, I did a quick search on flickr for creative commons photos and found some immmediately. So in summary, it needs a bit of work yet. JMiall 09:10, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good effort. Still though I couldn't support this for GA unless you had citations for everything that is potentially controversial or looks like an opinion such as:

  1. the 2nd paragraph of the foundation section
  2. 'completely alien to the traditions of the game in England'
  3. the 2nd paragraph of the Ground purchase section
  4. The 'Why AFC' section, particularly the quote

  • I wouldn't break this out as a separate article -- it's not long enough, and the first paragraph is still in the main article anyway. Also, you need sources for the statements in this excerpt, see WP:V. NawlinWiki 19:35, 3 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

San Marino Calcio

edit

Thanks for sending me a message. Probably the best place to start when it comes to looking for free images is Wikimedia's own Commons. There are tons of completely free images there that you can use. As far as peer review goes, I'd say it's probably a bit early for that. The article could use some basic expansion before you start drafting outside editors to review it, I think. Cheers! Esrever 00:30, 25 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, if you're having trouble finding free images on a particular topic, it may be that those pictures simply don't exist yet. You can always take them yourself (if you happen to live in San Marino, for example), or you could see if you can find a Wikipedian who does live in that area who could create free images instead. If you find non-free images on Flickr, you might also consider asking the photo's creator to relicense his or her images under a free license instead. Cheers! Speedy deletion of User the Netherlands football

edit

A tag has been placed on User the Netherlands football, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia per speedy deletion criterion G2.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. -- WebHamster 18:53, 3 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I restored the article. About the Netherlands task force join proposal, I am not interested due to the fact I don't really know a bit of Dutch football, and I am already way too busy with all the stuff I am doing here and in real life I would not have enough time to be actually active in it. About the San Marino venue, I didn't find a free picture anywhere in the Web, and I can't really help you in any other way, considering the fact San Marino is not close enough to Tuscany. Sorry for that. --Angelo 21:25, 3 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Leonederthona2.gif

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Leonederthona2.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:56, 7 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi again. I'm reluctant to rate the Jack Pelter article, as I'm not a member of the either of the 2 WikiProjects there. Maybe ask someone on one of those two projects to come by and have a look at it. I'm afraid I don't know enough about football to tell you where it needs improving.

I've had a look at the Gavin Donoghue article, though. I cleaned up it as best as I could, but some if it still strikes me as being a little POV. Also, make sure to add references for any possibly controversial statements. Cheers! Esrever 20:24, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just thought I owe you an explanation. In the talk page, the cat name wasn't displayed in the message b/c you'd enclosed it in brackets, so it seemed like you were replying directly to me (you can see this by looking at the displayed message, not the diff). In the edit window, I didn't read the message again, so I didn't notice. I only noticed that the category about the school had been seeminngly 'misplaced' as a section header above your comment; that's why I moved it to the bottom. Sorry. Have a look at List of Ipswich Town F.C. players for how I considered players to be notable... The Rambling Man (talk) 12:12, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well it depends. Since it's such a low-level club perhaps Serie A appearances are notable but I doubt it. I would go for more than 100 appearances (or a similar number if no-one meets that level, say 75 or 50), club record holders (top scorers, most expensive purchase, sale etc)... The Rambling Man (talk) 14:27, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I don't know where you want to take the article but if GA/FA is what you're after then aim to structure your article like Arsenal F.C. or Norwich City F.C. so include honours, crest and colours, expand history, remove "notable" players, add a managers section, add records section etc. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:30, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

"Prosed history" means a well written and comprehensively referenced four or five large paragraphs to describe the club's history. It's also wise to get such a section copyedited, if at all possible by WP:LOCE. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:17, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Easington Colliery A.F.C.

edit

Hi. The "rules" on the notability of clubs and whether they should be included are not very precise. I have seen a few articles written about tier 11 clubs (like Easington Colliery A.F.C.) so I think you'd be okay, but before you put too much effort into it you should post the same question at WP:FOOTBALL so the community can give you their opinion. The Rambling Man (talk) 14:43, 10 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

There's Stocksbridge Park Steels F.C. which might be similar. It's always a good idea to get some press articles as sources - these establish notability and then you can use a club website to add details. (The Stocksbridge article lacks these independent sources so could be afd'd any time.) Definitely a good idea not to spend hours on something that is then deleted. -- roundhouse0 (talk) 15:19, 10 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

San Marino and Gavin Donoghue copy-edit requests

edit

Thank you for your kind comments and the invitation to copy-edit these articles. In view of the woeful under-staffing of the League of Copy-Editors and the resultant backlog, I recently made a personal decision to focus available time mostly on scholarly topics rather than popular culture, sports, etc. This is not a judgment of the notability of this topic, and there are likely to be members of the League who enjoy working on articles like these two. Good luck with the articles. Regards, Unimaginative Username (talk) 22:36, 10 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I think that's fixed User:Sunderland06/UserBox/iwantaward. Use <includeonly> for the category to take effect when the template (e.g. this userbox) is "transcluded". <noinclude> is for something that only takes effect on the template page itself.
