Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Sunporchmedia", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it suggests this account represent a media organization rather than an individual. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. Oddbodz (talk) 16:36, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I'm an individual (a documentary filmmaker). I just chose that username for convenience as it's part of my email address. I'm not an expert at Wikipedia editing etiquette, protocol, etc. I wanted to correct the errors and omissions on this article, which happens to be a subject I am currently researching. If you think I ought to change my username, I'm happy to. Just a bit confused on the options and procedure. I'm also working on inline citations from authoritative published sources, which was the other major issue with the article.Sunporchmedia (talk) 19:05, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Requested username:

Request reason:

I am happy to change my username and would prefer to do so, but, as I mentioned in my previous note above, I do not understand how to do so. I offered clarification that I am an individual and requested assistance in the procedure for requesting a username change. I have been waiting for a reply. Please give me instructions if there is anything further I need to do, beyond this post, in order to request a username change.

Accept reason:

for username change. Instructions for username change are given in the posting of 26 July lower down on this page, from Alexf. I have reverted myself here as it appears my initial procedural comment was not understood.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 19:57, 2 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello, and thank you for your recent contributions. I appreciate the effort you made for our project, but unfortunately I had to undo your edit(s) because I believe the article was better before you made that change. Feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions. Thank you! Kevin12xd (contribs) 20:40, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Kevin, I understand your concern, as I had not provided the citation for the change in birthdate. Bobby L. Lovett, former chairman of TSU History Department, has published research that has clarified William Edmondson's birth date as December, 1876. His primary source, I believe, is the census record sheet for 1870. I have also viewed this primary source. Mr. Edmondson did not know his birthdate, and earlier biographies reflect this uncertainty. However, the corrected birthdate has been published since 2000, and scholars now accept December, 1874 as authoritative. Any more recent sources that do not reflect this information are relying on earlier, inaccurate, published estimates. [1] [2] I do not know how to contact you directly in the Wikipedia system. I'd appreciate a lesson. Thanks!Sunporchmedia (talk) 21:15, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.  You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you. Hi there; I see that you have recently started to edit here, but appear to be in some difficulty. you have not as yet received our standard welcome message, which I have added below this comment. If you click on the blue links they will tell you much of what you need to know. Specifically, answering a question you pose above, to contact any named user go to their talk page (left-click on the second part of their wiki signature (e.g. the "talk" in my sig)), hit the "new section" button and type away. Or, if you wish to add to an existing section scroll down to it and click on the "edit" at the top of the section.

To Alexf and/or any other administrator: I followed the name change request instruction, "If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text...". In the "reason" area I asked to be advised if there was anything -additional- I needed to do. The procedural decline refers back to Alexf's original instructions, which to the best of my ability I have done. (See the "MarkBNA" username that I requested). It's no big deal to just start a new username I suppose, but it's frustrating that I'm trying to follow instructions and getting turned down for reasons that are unclear to me. Hello, SPM a.k.a. MarkBNA! I have changed the Help me box, because you need the help of an admin. The most important thing you need right now is patience. The size of the admin backlog sometimes gets to a size much larger than the number of administrators on Wikipedia. Things will happen, just please be patient, and you will find that Wikipedia is a learning experience beyond compare! Joys! – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 16:27, 2 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hello. I've left a message on Anthony Bradbury's talk page to inquire about the decline: User talk:Anthony Bradbury#User:Sunporchmedia. GorillaWarfare (talk) 16:34, 2 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Alright, I've spoken with Anthony about this. You have been temporarily unblocked so that you can file a request to change your username. Please go to WP:CHU/S to file this request; there are instructions there. Do not make any edits that are not either to this user talk page or to the username change page.
