Welcome!
editHello, SusanMcMaster, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Susan McMaster, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}}
before the question. Again, welcome! The Dissident Aggressor 21:53, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

Dear me, I think I put my long comment on another page, but sent to you. I'll try to find it. In the meantime, I was not the author of this page on me -- it arrived to my surprise maybe 10 years ago. Since then the info has changed, as I've published more books, placed for prizes, become President of the League of Canadian Poets, had books translated and read internationally, etc. I don't know whether any of this makes the article "important". I do know readers often refer to it. So when the note came on about secondary sources, I added Canadian Who's Who plus some others, a review in the Ottawa Citizen, and was about to add some more, when they got removed and your kind note came up. This hasn't happened before -- my edits have been accepted... I'm not now sure what to do? Any help you can give will be appreciated. SusanMcMaster (talk) 23:01, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
- Hi SusanMcMaster. As the subject of one of our articles we advise that you dont edit the article relating to yourself directly to ensure that our policies on Conflict of interest are met. There have been occasions previously where users have edited articles about themseves that have led to negative publicity as well (which while not your intention can occur).
- Your best option to make the edits you would like is to go to the articles talk page and start a new section and request the changes you would like made in a change X to Y format. At the start of the section if you put the text {{requested edit}} (including the {{ }}) this will alert other editors of the requests you would like to make.
- You will need to provide reliable sources such as newspapers journals or other appropriate works that back up the statements made. This is to ensure that the articles meet out policy on protecting individuals from false (or unproven) claims being made against them. This policy works for both negative and positive comments in the interests of fairness and accuracy.
- We would also advise that you provide confirmation of your identity to our Volunteer response team as the name of the account can be linked to an individual in an article it may be blocked to ensure that it has not been created to impersonate a living person. This is done to protect the subject in question not as any implication of wrongdoing (much in the same way a bank may block your account if they see purchases they cannot verify as being the individual in questions). Confirmation of ID can be provided by e-mailing the team from an e-mail account that can be associated with yourself. Further details on what can be used to assist in confirmation can be requested from the volunteer response team. Amortias (T)(C) 23:38, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
Morningside and Go for Susan McMaster
editHi -- don't know if my answer got through at all? Both of these were CBC radio programs, Morningside with Peter Gzowski, interviews 1970s and 1980, Go with Brent Bambury in Ottawa, also CBC radio, again interview. Also appeared on other CBC and other radio shows, occasionally on tv, during these 2 decades, e.g., As it Happens. Thanks, Sue SusanMcMaster (talk)
Edit request
editDear Editor -- I hope you'll be able to help me with a little problem. Perhaps a year ago now, I made some factual corrections to my bio page. This page was not originally mounted by me, in fact I don't have any idea who did do it. Perhaps it happened through the League of Canadian Poets -- I was president for a while -- or other such sources, e.g. the Writers Union of Canada, or maybe the Canadian Who's Who then published by the University of Toronto. In any case, I corrected a few errors and kept the bibliographical list up to date as I published new books. I had no problem for a long time: the page has been up for more than a decade, I believe.
But just this year, a box saying that "the subject of the page (me) is changing it" appeared -- very embarrassing, and I now hesitate to send people to Wikipedia -- even though I never put in qualitative or descriptive material, just facts.
Earlier I contacted an editor because there was also a notability question; she very kindly removed that warning when I sent some corroborative quotes. So that's all fine.
She also told me the other box would disappear in a month or two if I didn't edit the page myself. I haven't done so, but it's been a long time, at least since last winter. Can you please remove the warning? It looks like I'm a blowhard playing my own horn! Aackk!!
The page is under the heading "Susan McMaster". I do appreciate your help, and will be very grateful for anything you can do. Thanks very much!!

- Done: The tag was removed by SlimVirgin a few days ago. No harm, but, in future, you should make these requests on the article's talk page, not your user talk page. You can find the full directions here. Rebbing 17:34, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
Removal of "clarification" and "weasel word" tags
editGosh, Sarah, I just checked the page and it looks great, with the odd qualifications that the word "poet" in the second paragraph is marked with "clarification" and "weasel words". I'm confused, since the whole article is about my work as a poet. By now I have about 2 dozen poetry books and recordings, published by established and respectable trade publishers and publications, including 2 magazines including poetry that I founded and edited myself, one the first feminist art mag in Canada (1973-80, doctoral thesis and articles, Dr. Tessa Jordan, University of Alberta), the other the flagship mag of the National Gallery of Canada (Vernissage, 1990-present, though I'm now retired from there). The paragraph reads:
- Since 1996, she has been the poet[clarification needed][weasel words] in Geode Music & Poetry, making four spoken word and music recordings with Jennifer Giles on keyboards, Alrick Huebener on bass, Gavin McLintock on sax, and friends, including Dave Broscoe, Jamie Gullikson, Mike Essoudry, Petr Cancura, Mark Molnar, John Higney, Linsey Wellman, Penn Kemp, Colin Morton, and Max Middle. She has performed and recorded with SugarBeat and Geode at 50-plus venues, including the Banff Centre, the National Library, the Kingston Fringe Jazz Festival, Rasputin's, the Blue Skies Music Festival, the Ottawa Folk Festival, the Elora Music Festival, Artscape, WordBeat, Morningside, Go, the National Arts Center Fourth Stage, and the Ottawa International Writers Festival, and has read and performed at festivals and venues in France and Italy.
Perhaps it would help to change the first phrase to:
- Between 1996 and 2010, she was the solo spoken word performance member of the group Geode Music & Poetry,
[Note that while I still perform my work with musicians, the Geode group is closed down now.]
I suppose this happened because the word poet is now trendy, e.g., "I'm the poet of motor car racing...", but it seems odd that it turned up here, when I actually and literally am a poet, on paper and in performance. Anyway, I'm sure you will explain what I need to do, or make the change if needed, to remove those qualifications?
Once again, I really appreciate your attention. I know there's always too much to do!
