editHello, I'm Mdann52. I wanted to let you know that I removed an external link you added to the page Samuel Bolton Colburn because it seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia. Welcome (not a template!)
editHi. I noticed your work on Bowers Museum, and have taken a quick look on the two articles referenced here above. Quite good, at first glance. So, welcome! On top of the suggestions given in the above wp:Template (yes, communicating with User Templates is silly, but hey! they make it easier to be concise) I would dare to point you how to start a "talk", because I noticed a couple you have started. You have two easy ways: the first one is clicking on the + sign on the top of any talk page, that will give you two text fields, one for the subject, another for the message. A second way (the hardcore way :-) is to click edit, move to the end of the one text field you have, create a subject line using a level 2 heading (using == Subject ==) and writing your message on the next line(s). Also take a look at wp:Notifications which are simple and handy, for keeping up conversations. - Nabla (talk) 00:01, 10 December 2016 (UTC)
Thank you
editHi, thank you, again Nabla. I feel like I am in over my head but will keep on trying! Will check out wp:Notifications. Susan M Anderson (talk) 00:28, 10 December 2016 (UTC)
A cup of coffee for you!
editHello, I saw that you are adding images to Bowers Museum. Thanks for what you are trying to do.
I see that you are already messaged on your userpage at Wikimedia Commons about the copyright. Photographs are copyrighted and we do need copyright licenses to host them here. You can continue that conversation on Commons if you like (they specialize in that). If you get confused, I could help also. I expect that in the end either the museum will need to give permission or the photos will be deleted. Blue Rasberry (talk) 18:46, 14 December 2016 (UTC) |
Thank you
editBluerasberry, this is the same information I left on my user page for the other inquiry: All of the photos I uploaded were work for hire. They did not give me photographers' names because of that. If they had, I would have tried to figure out how to deal with that. I assumed that because they were all work for hire of objects in the collection (that are in the public domain) that it was probably safe to upload them the way I did. To put it another way, they are faithful copies of 2D and 3D works of art in the public domain, and were work for hire by the museum. The museum holds the copyright. Is there a step I missed or is there a better way to approach this? I am grateful for any help you can provide.
I asked them to send me representative photos that had no copyright issues that were work for hire of objects in their collection without any copyright issues. This is probably standard procedure for museum articles as they are the ones who have images of their works of art.
I am grateful for any help making sure the photos are properly uploaded. How does the museum prove copyright for photos that were work for hire? How would I acknowledge that? Perhaps the person in Commons that contacted me will help me with that. Thank you, though, if you wish to weigh in. Susan M Anderson (talk) 19:03, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
- I emailed you my contact info to offer a voice chat to sort this. If for any reason you prefer, then I will answer you here on wiki. Thanks. Blue Rasberry (talk) 19:14, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
Bluerasberry, I think what I need to do is the following. Email the following permissions form to the museum and have them send it back to Wikipedia. Will that work? Thank you, Susan M Anderson (talk) 19:23, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
To: permissions-commons@wikimedia.org I hereby affirm that I choose one:, [name] or [represent copyright holder's name], the creator and/or sole owner of the exclusive copyright of choose one: [the media work][1]or [the work depicted in the media][2] or [both the work depicted and the media][3] as shown here: choose one: [web page of the content] or [in the attached images/text],[4]and have legal authority in my capacity to release the copyright of that work. I agree to publish the above-mentioned content under the following free license: Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International.[5] I acknowledge that by doing so I grant anyone the right to use the work, even in a commercial product or otherwise, and to modify it according to their needs, provided that they abide by the terms of the license and any other applicable laws. I am aware that this agreement is not limited to Wikipedia or related sites. I am aware that the copyright holder always retains ownership of the copyright as well as the right to be attributed in accordance with the license chosen. - Well - you figured it out. Yes, that's right. Someone with an email address at the museum should mail this in then everything is okay. The email should list the files uploaded. Blue Rasberry (talk) 19:26, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
Bluerasberry, thank goodness. It is not so difficult after all. What is needed for the list of files? Can they not just declare all the images in their Wikipedia article to be covered by the permission? Or do they send the titles as found in Commons (the ones I copied and entered into the article?) Or is a list of the titles as given in the Wikipedia article good enough? Thanks again, Susan M Anderson (talk) 19:40, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
- I connected this page with the one at Commons. I send the text with the list at Commons:User_talk:Susan_M_Anderson#Send_this. Blue Rasberry (talk) 20:09, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
The Banner, I am not an intern at the Bowers Museum. When I said the Wikipedia I had written was not so different from ones at other museums I was referring to the format, not the content. I am not, and have never been, a PR person. I wrote a lousy first version of the Bowers Museum article, I agree. I drew on the museum's website far too much for some of the material and so it was promotional. However, you did not need to mock me. Susan M Anderson (talk) 00:40, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
- I am not mocking you, I just told you the impression your work had on me. The Banner talk 10:37, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
The Banner, it seemed inappropriate or unprofessional for you to have that little discussion about me with another person on Wikipedia. That is what I am referencing. Susan M Anderson (talk) 19:24, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
- This talk about "intern" refers to Talk:Bowers_Museum#December_9_edits_and_revert. One participant in that discussion called Banner's revert "harsh". I will not take sides but moving forward I can say that there are more efficient ways to have a civil conversation and that in the future no one participating in this project should encounter negativity. We follow the rules, but new users get a soft touch and a break too. Blue Rasberry (talk) 22:02, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
Need Help with Images
editBluerasberry I am coming back to you for help because I am mystified why nearly all the images were removed from the Bowers Museum Commons page and the article. The photos were all made by staff there of objects in their collection. I am still new to navigating this enormous behemoth and so am unsure how to proceed. Is it possible for you to check this situation out and let me know what the problem is? You were so helpful before. Thank you! Susan M Anderson (talk) 22:15, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- The copyright is still being researched. I just checked a private reference ticket at ticket:2016121410033994. Let me get back to you in a few days. This is not a stale issue - there is a concern being addressed. The pictures can be restored after this conversation. Sorry for the trouble - it is a paperwork issue. Blue Rasberry (talk) 23:08, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
Bluerasberry thank you for helping again. I am glad this is something to do with paperwork and solvable. The museum must be involved in trying to resolve it. I will check the ticket you cited and then wait and see how it unfolds for now. Susan M Anderson (talk) 02:38, 11 March 2017 (UTC)
Bluerasberry obviously I can't check the ticket! It is only for OTRS people it seems. Thanks again. Susan M Anderson (talk) 02:41, 11 March 2017 (UTC)
- I am just checking in to say that I looked at things and am still looking. I need some more time. Blue Rasberry (talk) 22:04, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

- I have an appointment to talk by voice or video with a curator at the Bowers Museum on Friday 24 March. Any resolution will come after that day. Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:04, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you again, Bluerasberry. That is wonderful news.Susan M Anderson (talk) 02:58, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
