edit

Is there any particular reason you reverted the edit from 211.29.195.108? I only ask because the sentence you returned contains factual errors: specifically that changes to Triple J in the late '90s made it similar to stations like Nova ... the only problem is that Nova wasn't started until 2001. --BenM 08:05, 31 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Yeah i probably just should have checked the sentance for errors before reverting the edit. I reverted it because i saw it as just deleting some information that could have been of some use, but yes again, i should have checked the facts of the actual sentance instead of just reverting it.

Alright, I might look into rewriting it a little more clearly later. --BenM 05:13, 1 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

SVG Maps

edit

Hi, I have been looking into uploading my maps as SVG, but have been hessitant for a few reasons. I have had no dealings with SVG before and would want to properly understand the format first. I don't want all the non-visible parts of the file included in the upload, reference images, non-relavent data, etc. I did attempt to upload a test in compressed svg format the other day, but it didn't work. Martyman 20:57, 11 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

The problem is that I think Illustrator will also include all the layers that I have turned off. I know this is how it behaves when you save to PDF format. For example, say I use a copyrighted image as a reference image. I would have it in a layer which is set invisible when I am exporting images for upload. As far as I can see If I save to SVG it will be included in the SVG file (in an invisible state) which would then make it illegal for me to then distribute the file. I would have to delete all non-desired content out of the Illustrator file every time I want to generate a new SVG file for upload. Martyman 02:43, 12 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
edit

Would you be able to edit your svg image (Image:BBC-newslogo.svg) so that it has a default resolution greater than 300px? I'm sure it can be done, but I've not learnt SVG yet. If you can make that change then the image should work nicely with users' thumbnail settings, which can currently be set to up to 300px. With the image the way it is now, "thumb" will not render it any greater than 88px. --Throup (talk) 01:38, 23 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hi. May I ask why you are changing the PNG image of the London 2012 logo to your SVG version? I'm just wondering why as the SVG version has a light blue background which doesn't look as nice. violet/riga (t) 13:33, 26 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I do understand the difference between the versions and the problems IE causes, but we should cater for the largest audience. If you could find a fix then that'd be great, otherwise I think it might be better to go back to the original PNG. violet/riga (t) 11:37, 27 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hello again! I recently set up the Christianity Wikiportal. The design is constantly changing and being updated. Another user helped with the layout by using different code to set it up, but in the process the green colour of the header boxes has changed to a blander light blue. Do you know how can I can make the title boxes go from the current colour scheme back to this one? I don't know where to insert the colour tags to change it back. Thanks in advance! WP A-League players

10% complete

Hi Swarve!

I just wanted to let you know about the big WikiProject A-League 2005–06 player project. It is an attempt to bring the articles on every player who played in the A-League in 2005–06 up to standard. Check out the main page for the player project to get the full list of players as well as useful links and stats to help out. Hopefully we can get the full list done before the beginning of the 2006–07 season. Don't forget to update the counts (they will automatically update the status bar) as you go. Thanks! The Metro

Hi Simon! I didn't know you were on Wikipedia! First of all - thanks a million for the photos, they're really great for the Metro articles on stations. Secondly, I will upload the original size for the Titan photo. For most of them, I've tried to get the original size, maybe I just clicked the wrong button for that one [UPDATE: Apparently Flickr takes you automatically to the large size, not the original, when you click on a photo]. In any case, thanks for telling me about this. The Politehnica photo will be uploaded soon. And the Athaeneum one is also beautiful. Cheers,    Ronline 12:49, 13 June 2006 (UTC) - PS: Where in Australia are you from? I spent a part of my childhood in Australia and was there (Sydney) at the start of this year. Loved it. How are you finding Romania?Reply

Yes, I spent most of my time in Sydney, even though I did make a short trip to Canberra and Melbourne (I stayed at my friends' place in Syndal; there is a pretty large Romanian community there), and various places in NSW. I'm actually not from Bucharest, but from Oradea, near the Hungarian border, so I guess we're both from regional centres :) How long are you staying in Romania for?    Ronline 13:41, 13 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, I have to go offline very soon, so the quickest I'll be able to upload them will be tomorrow. If you're able to upload them before then, it would be great. Otherwise, I'll get around to doing it. Cheers,    Ronline 13:51, 13 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

A-League 2006-07 Newsletter I

edit
Introduction
The first ever Wikiproject A-League newsletter is here! The 2006-07 A-League season will bring the usual enjoyment and fanaticism that only football/soccer can create. This new season also means a lot of (currently-open) tasks that require completion throughout the course of the next 21 weeks.
Position Ladder
A Position Ladder will be placed on each team page, which will provide an up-to-date visualization of the current A-League standings. However, problems may occur when Position Ladders aren't updated with the new statistics that don't involve matches of the team whose page the Position Ladder resides on. To remedy this, a base Position Ladder will be created, which will be located at {{2006-07 A-League Position Ladder}} (link). Please update this as soon as possible after the match has ended, as this will keep the Wikipedia community informed.

A few notes regarding the base Position Ladder:-

  • Please do not substitute the Position Ladder template on the team pages, as it won’t get automatically updated if you do.
  • Please only update the Position Ladder at the end of a match, and if there is any large dispute about the result, do not add it, but instead wait for an official report by the A-League confirming the result.
  • When updating, make sure to adjust all of the below fields:-
    • The played field – add one (eg. 13→14 etc.)
    • Either the win, loss or draw field, depending on the result for that team.
    • The points field – either add 3 points (win), 1 point (draw) or leave the same (loss)
    • The for and the against section
    • Make sure you repeat this process for both teams – not just the team you follow!
Summary Tables
Each team page will have a Summary Table added to it, which will provide an at-a-glance look at the results of the team throughout the season. We ask that, at every chance you get, you fill in the results of these Summary Tables – it only takes a few seconds, but it will help keep the uninformed "in the loop" – it is an encyclopedia we’re writing, after all.

As with the Position Ladders, a few notes about the Summary Tables:-

  • Please place the winner in bold text (using '''winning team''').
  • With the crowd figures, please only place a comma if the attendance is over 10,000 people (eg. use 8648 instead of 8,468 and 11,482 instead of 11482).

WikiProject A-League Newsletter
Issue II – September 2006
Current Player project status

A-League News

Project News
  • The Player project has been moved, overhauled and refined. It now is not limited to the 2005-06 player list. However, only 10% of articles are considered "complete", and hopefully we can get this figure to approach 100% by the end of the season.
  • Major changes to the layout of the 2006-07 A-League season page have taken place recently, and an infobox created. A table for attendances, as well as top scorer etc. are now in place. All users are encouraged to update the scores for completed matches as they come in.
  • Recently, Perth Glory F.C. was moved to Perth Glory FC after no objections were raised at the Wikiproject talk page. All links to the old page (including various templates) were changed.
  • The project requires pictures of games and stadiums to help improve articles. Any pictures are much appreciated.
  • The A-League Portal has been set up. Feel free to update the scores, and make sure you check out the selected article and picture each fortnight.
  • The football (soccer) barnstar has recently became the official award of the Wikiproject. Feel free to hand it out to anyone you see making excellent contributions to all things A-League related.

Unspecified source for Image:ArmandVanHelden-Home, Sydney.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:ArmandVanHelden-Home, Sydney.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Your edit to Melbourne article

edit

Just want to give you a heads-up that the China wiki-link was being directed to People's Republic of China instead of China for a reason -- the China article talks about Chinese civilization and not the country, so a disambiguated link is needed -- People's Republic of China for the country mostly known as "China" and Republic of China for the country mostly known as "Taiwan" (similarly, the Taiwan article talks about the island rather than the country). Hopefully this is useful. :) -→Buchanan-Hermit™/?! 04:32, 12 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

edit

Hi :) Thanks for your edits to Hawthorn East, they did improve the article considerably (it's on my watchlist of problem articles because of the hyperbole that seems to creep in at the drop of a hat). One note though - the geocoords at the bottom in external links are pretty much standard across all suburb articles nationwide. The script for that actually places the coords at the top right - so when they go, they take the top right ones with them. Orderinchaos 09:48, 13 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hiding an insult in your edit summary by choosing to make it in Romanian is neither particularly clever or appreciated. Further, it is outside the collaborative spirit of the project. You might not like that sources are required by WP:V, but the recourse you have is to argue for a change to that policy, not to put down those who try to improve the project in any way. Beyond that, your choice to make your attack a bigoted one by making an ad hominem attack against my nationality casts a particularly negative shadow on your actions. Replaceable fair use Image:ArmandVanHelden-Home,_Sydney.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:ArmandVanHelden-Home,_Sydney.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 09:54, 14 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:MelbVictory-logo.svg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:MelbVictory-logo.svg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Image source problem with Image:Alcatel.png

edit

Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Alcatel.png. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:42, 7 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Abc-logo.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Abc-logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:57, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Template:Melbourne Line Infobox

edit

A tag has been placed on Template:Melbourne Line Infobox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Speedy deletion of Carey Aquatic

edit

A tag has been placed on Carey Aquatic requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Thanks for uploading Image:Paris2012-Map.png. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

File source problem with File:Cocacolaverkauf.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Cocacolaverkauf.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Non-free rationale for File:CarltonDraught.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:CarltonDraught.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
