Kiev
editWikipedia uses the English spelling of Kiev. Please see the discussion of the issue at Talk:Kiev/naming. Laszlo Panaflex (talk) 23:53, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
Answer to Laszlo Panaflex
edit"English spelling" - come on, I have read enough of WP editor/administrator pages to clearly understand what WP is using:D
Just look on what one of WP administrators (Ymblanter, russian guy, OF COURSE!!!) bases his opinions:
Concerning Ukraine, the naming is done "on consensus":
editAll names "reflects the most used English name" (bulshit).
Question of WP user
editIn Ukraine, the official language is Ukrainian only. Russian, Romanian and Hungarian do not have any, regional or official status. Please return my edits. Also today, the US Council on Geographical Names unanimously supported the decision to replace the official name of the capital of Ukraine from "Kiev" to "Kyiv" in an international base. The Embassy of Ukraine in the USA reports this on Facebook. We will seek to rename the article on Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vitaliyf261 (talk • contribs) 20:59, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
Ymblanter's answer
edit- You are already seeking this for years and so far failed miserably. You may want to look at Talk:Kiev/naming. Wikipedia operates on the basis of consensus, see WP:CONSENSUS, not on the basis of the opinion of the Ukrainian government. The current consensus is to keep Russian names.--Ymblanter (talk) 21:05, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
Concerning russian owned Japanese islands, the talk is different:
editAll names are taken from Russian, because Kuril islands are located in russia.
Question of WP user
edit- If you found some of my edits an issue with you, you could have reverted that and explain the reasons as to why, so I could better understand it. But you probably decided that was too much work for you. Instead, you decided to revert the entire edit outright, reverse all the work, and threaten to block me. So much for assuming good faith. - Ineedtostopforgetting (talk) 08:45, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
Ymblanter's answer
edit- Would you please stop playing an idiot? Kunashir is located in Russia. All countries except Japan recognize this, and therefore the principal names of localities and geographic features located on Kuril Islands are taken from Russian, not from Japanese. Moving articles from Russian names to Japanese names is disruption. (Japanese names were already in the articles, for the record). Adding info about smth currently located in "Kunashiri, Japan" is disruption. You perfectly know this. If you do it once again, I will block your account. Is this sufficiently clear?--Ymblanter (talk) 08:51, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

editYour recent editing history at Principality of Kiev shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. - T0mk0us, you made this edit, where you accuse two editors of harassing you "just because [you are] pro Ukraine", almost immediately after my warning. As such, I am about to block for tendentious editing and casting aspersions. Salvio 19:34, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

Decline reason:
I am declining your unblock request because it does not address the reason for your block, or because it is inadequate for other reasons. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that
- the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
- the block is no longer necessary because you
- understand what you have been blocked for,
- will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
- will make useful contributions instead.
Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 19:49, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I request my unblock, since I never did any damage or disruptive editing to Wikipedia. the block is no longer necessary because I understand what I have been blocked for. I will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and will make useful contributions instead, as I always did
- I understand that I was blocked for the disruptive editing of articles related to the capital of Ukraine Kyiv. iI tryed to edit/move articles having Kiev to Kyiv.
- I will not do this anymore before consensus;
- I will not attack any user concerning their pro-russian or other preferences
- I will not doing any disruptive edits which are not approved by consensus.
T0mk0us (talk) 21:20 pm, Today (UTC−4)
- Your appeal lacks credibility. At 20:58 UTC you wrote "I will not attack any user concerning their pro-russian or other preferences", then at 21:56 you stated "I have been blocked by users wo are anti-Ukranian". Admins know when accounts are just feeding us what they think we want to hear and will decline such insincere appeals.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 22:06, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- As you are continuing with your attacks on others, I have revoked your ability to edit this talk page. You can use WP:UTRS, but you will lose access to that too if you do not change your approach to interaction with others. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 22:58, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

Request reason:
I request to unblock me.
I understand that I was blocked for tendentious editing and casting aspersions.
I promise, that:
I will never repeat such behavior
I will never attack any editor or admin for any reason.
I will never try to disrupt any Kiev/Kyiv related articles or discussions.
In particular:
I will not change any historical page related to Kiev before the concensus.
I will not move any modern page from Kiev to Kyiv, before the concensus on the move is reached.
I will never change Kiev to Kyiv on any page before the consensus is reached.
Moreover, I will not engage in any edit-warring.
I have very good knowledge of history and architecture of Ukraine, hence, I would like to contribute to English Wikipedia on Ukrainian topic.
Also, I would like to translate articles from Ukrainian Wikipedia to English, and bring them to English Wikipedia.
And, enrich articles about Ukraine, already existing in English Wikipedia. T0mk0us (talk) 18:32, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

This request is smply restating what we want to hear. From everything, there is no indication that you will adhere to these guidelines, and I do no see a need to unblock you. RickinBaltimore (talk) 12:45, 27 September 2020 (UTC)

@RickinBaltimore How am I supposed to appeal my block, if I am asked to show that I understand what I was blocked for, and explain that I will not do this anymore, then, when I do this, an editor simply says that I am restating what they want to hear and decline my appeal? What more details do you need? You know very well, that if I repeat a disruptive behavior in future, I will be blocked for good. And I know it as well. So, why do you think that I will not adhere to WP guidelines and policies? It is not in my interest to not adhere. T0mk0us (talk) 21:11, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
Block appeal
editT0mk0us (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
I am appealing my blocking. Why? Because, I have been blocked first of all, for Tendentious editing: which is "editing with a sustained bias, or with a clear viewpoint contrary to neutral point of view." I have only tried to change Kiev to Kyiv. When I started to change Kiev to Kyiv in WP, I honestly believed, that every article, containing name of the capital of Ukriane, should be changed to Kyiv.
The second reason of my bloking was: Casting aspersions: I wrote things about russian-ukrainian relations, after I read a statement from the WP admin Ymblanter, saying that: We just need to be very clear that we are now a Ukrainian government propaganda outlet.--Ymblanter (talk) 17:36, 18 September 2020 (UTC). After reading this, I felt attacked as a Ukrainian. Hope, you can understand this.
During my five years as member of Wikipedia, I have never been involved in any vandalism or disruptive editing.
When I have translated the "Flag of Kyiv" page, I have never tryied to use Kyiv in place of Kiev, because I knew, that the concensus was for "Kiev" at the time.
Now, learning all the things about changing page names in WP, I understand, that WP is a very complex system. Because, I understood, that my changing of Kiev to Kyiv in the Ukrainian capital pages caused a disruption. Since then, I understood, that Wikipedia is a complex platform, where any editing withouth consensus, could provoke a massive disruption. You can ask me more questions, but this is the reason, why I am requesting my unblock. T0mk0us (talk) 05:29, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
Accept reason:
Unblocked per below. You are topic banned from Kyiv/Kiev. Please read the policy to understand what this means. Basically, it means that you may not edit pages about the city or edit parts of articles that mention the city, move pages to a different spelling of Kyiv or Kiev, or mention the city or its name on talk pages. That leaves everything else on Wikipedia open to you, though. If Eurovision is hosted in Kyiv, let someone else mention that. But there's no reason why you can't write an entire article about Ukraine's history in World World II. I didn't specify a length for the topic ban earlier, so let's set it to expire in six months. If you want to appeal the topic ban earlier, you can post to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard. Please also be aware that Eastern Europe is under discretionary sanctions, which means that admins expect editors editing in this topic area to be especially careful about following Wikipedia's guidelines and policies. T0mk0us (talk) 05:23, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- First of all, it doesn't matter what Ymblanter said. We're not talking about Ymblanter here; we're talking about you. Second, one way to get unblocked without an admin saying "you're just telling us what we want to hear" is to agree to a topic ban on Kiev/Kyiv. That means you wouldn't be able to edit any page about that city or move pages related to Kiev/Kyiv to different spellings. It would prove that you're here to do other stuff than argue about the spelling of a city. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 20:32, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
@NinjaRobotPirate Thanks for a wonderful advice! I agree to a topic ban on Kiev/Kyiv. Please, ban me from this topic. I will be happy (honestly) because it will avoid another conflicts for me. I have many other subjects on Ukraine that I can bring to WP.
- @Salvio giuliano and Ymblanter: how does that sound? Any objection to unblocking with a topic ban? NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 00:13, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- We can try, under understanding that return to casting aspersions or other disruptive behavior will result in the restoration of a block.--Ymblanter (talk) 05:26, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- NinjaRobotPirate, I am not overly optimistic, but I am willing to give it a try. Salvio 07:11, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Salvio giuliano, Ymblanter, and NinjaRobotPirate: Thank you all.T0mk0us (talk) 16:36, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Salvio giuliano and Ymblanter: how does that sound? Any objection to unblocking with a topic ban? NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 00:13, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- @NinjaRobotPirate:
Thank you for your explanation. I just cheked, and while the page "Kyiv", does not have an Edit tab available, other pages about Kiev, like f.ex. "Iziaslav I of Kiev" are accessible for Editing. Does that mean, that if, I edit by mistake something on a such Kiev related page, even if it is not related to the name of the city, I will be blocked again? T0mk0us (talk) 21:24, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry, your notification didn't work, and I didn't notice your question until now. See Help:Notifications – our implementation is a bit counter-intuitive. Kyiv is under extended confirmed protection, which is probably why you can't edit it. Nobody can edit that page unless they've made 500 edits to English Wikipedia. Generally, the software won't stop you from editing pages related to your topic ban. If it's obvious that you accidentally violated the topic ban, you'll probably get a warning/reminder. But you should take care to avoid editing pages directly related to Kyiv. If a page has "Kyiv" or "Kiev" in the name, that's probably a bad sign. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 02:03, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
