POLARDB

POLARDB is a cloud-native database developed by Alibaba Cloud. It is a relational database management system and compatible with databases MySQL and PostgreSQL .

History

Alibaba Cloud released POLARDB for MySQL 5.6 in September 2017 for beta testing, and commercialized it in April 2018. A major update was released in May 2019, providing one-click migration from MySQL, Oracle and PostgreSQL.

Features

POLARDB uses a shared storage architecture, which separates storage from computing. It can have computation servers to 16 nodes and storage capacity up to 100TB. POLARDB leverages redo logs for physical replication, and provides the read/write isolation for load balancing among all nodes.

Compatibility

Alibaba Cloud POLARDB claims 100% backward compatibility with MySQL and also highly compatible with Oracle.

Papers

POLARDB papers were selected for VLDB 2018 and SIGMOD 2019.
