Hi Tangm, it is highly likely her books are also notable and warrant articles as well. See the notability guidelines for books. A couple reviews from reputable critics/media meets the criteria. • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Managing a conflict of interest

edit

Hello, Tangm. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Margaret Hooks, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. S0091 (talk) 19:10, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi Tangm, it is clear you have a conflict of interest so you need to make the appropriate declaration and make edit requests going forward rather than editing the article directly. If you have questions or need help, you can ask at the Teahouse. S0091 (talk) 19:35, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I'm trying to figure out how to make the appropriate declaration and will do so asap. I only saw the part in the COI guidelines about employer and remunerative affiliations and didn't realize that any personal connection constituted a COI. I'd thought Margaret's body of work as an author, particularly on areas related to feminism and the arts, would be of interest to the Wikipedia community and since I'm the only person with access to ALL of the information, I thought I would create the entry and let the community amend and edit. Tangm (talk) 19:39, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
(cont'd) ... but I will go ahead and make the appropriate COI declaration now that I understand the rules. Thanks! Tangm (talk) 19:40, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Obviously I agree Hooks is notable because I accepted the article. :) However, what drew my attention is your additions after it was accepted as they appear to contain original research and written in a non-neutral manner. Wikipedia is not a the place for everything about her; only what independent secondary sources have written about her keeping in mind WP:DUE. I still think articles about her most notable books are warranted so I strongly suggest submitted drafts about those (see WP:NBOOKS for the notability guidelines). Even with a COI, submitting drafts is fine and preferred. S0091 (talk) 19:52, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, but do I need to post the COI on this page, or at Margaret Hooks ? Tangm (talk) 20:00, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
I fixed it up for you. There is now a COI declaration at Talk:Margaret Hooks and your User page. All covered now! S0091 (talk) 20:05, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! Tangm (talk) 20:07, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
No problem. My sincere condolences for your loss. S0091 (talk) 20:27, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
