"revert to my version"

edit

Thanks for the tips! It looks like someone else made a change since mine, though, and it says "If you save it, any changes made since this version will be removed." But Commander Keane put the changes in a temp place for me, so I think it will all work out. Thanks so much for being a nice guy (or gal). I guess I shouldn't expect that everyone would be nice on Wikipedia, but I'm glad that most people are. You're one of the good ones. Sarah crane 14:16, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello again. I hate to bug you, but I just made my first real article, and I wanted to brag. John Chain. What do you think it needs? Does it follow the MoS well enough? TIA Sarah crane 15:49, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again! I did that. You're right, it looks better that way. Have a great day! Sarah crane 16:12, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2

edit
The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.
Signed...

Mistake in Living Titanic Survivors page

edit

There are 3 living survivors of the Titanic Disaster and you only have 1, wikipedia was correct with the three listed two weeks ago and now someone has screwed it up, get it right or Quit wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.178.162.192 (talkcontribs) 08:15, 8 April 2006

I reverted your edit to Living Titanic Survivors because you removed the text from the page and replaced it with an obscene comment. If you know the correct facts (I myself am not a contributor to this particular article, so would not know), please feel free to fix the relevant text. Please remember to cite your sources too. Also note that Wikipedia has a policy of no personal attacks. Thank you. -- Tangotango 08:19, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Eamon de Valera

edit

Thanks for backing me up on the Eamon de Valera refugee policy matter, but Boothy has rv your rv, and the edits I made thus deleted. Could you deal with this Boothy person, and find out why he insists on hiding the ugly realities of Irish refugee policy during WW2?

I left him a message, and he never had the decency to respond. Thanks, Brandubh Blathmac 11:06, 9 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, it looks like an admin has semi-protected the page so that only established users can edit it. Further attempts at blatant vandalism will be dealt with in the same way other vandalism is handled; if, on the other hand, the dispute is content-related, may I suggest you consider using one of the methods listed at Wikipedia:Resolving disputes. Using one of the open, community-based methods should put the article in the spotlight and help iron out any inaccuracies for certain. Hope this helps! -- Tangotango 11:43, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

Question (transferred from user page)

edit

Hi solidarity park here i dont know how to post is this a post ? i have created an article Maya Evans it says in need of improvement i cant figure it out many thanks —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Solidarity park (talkcontribs) 11:53, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

Yes, that was a post, and so was your article on Maya Evans. It looks like some other users have already "improved" the article. You can choose to expand the article with more information, or work on another article. You might like to look at the Manual of Style for information on Wikipedia style, or Wikipedia:Your first article to see what's expected in Wikipedia articles. However, don't worry - you don't need to make things perfect the first time round, and if you make a mistake, other editors will fix it for you sooner or later. Be bold, and happy editing! If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask me again. P.S.: User pages (User:Solidarity park, for example) are there to introduce yourself, and user talk pages (like this page, or User talk:Tangotango) to talk to the user concerned. -- Tangotango 12:16, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

You said that I removed the partial content without reason. So I checked the comparisons, and you should know that I edited the article for IMDB rating, but what I didn't know is that some major parts were edited out. Forgive me, but that was an accident I made. Seriously, I did not appreciate long processes of editing, so I tried editing it again. Please understand my actions. --70.234.85.241 08:50, 10 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, I understand. We all make mistakes, and it's really no big deal if you accidentally delete part of an article - that can be fixed in no time. That aside, welcome to Wikipedia, and I hope you stay! If you'd like, you might like to register an account - it requires almost no effort, and it feels good to have one. For more information on why you might like to make an account, please see this page. Thanks! -- Tangotango 08:57, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Romania in the Middle Ages

edit

User:Greier's deletions at Romania in the Middle Ages, which you complained about on his user talk page, were actually a removal of probably copyvio'd material (discussed on Talk:Romania in the Middle Ages). He was doing the right thing, even if he didn't give an edit summary and chose to insult me on the talk page for pointing out the probable copyvio. - Jmabel | Talk 05:32, 12 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hey Jmabel, thanks for pointing that out, and sorry if I caused you any inconvenience. I reverted Greier's edit because s/he seemed to be removing quite a lot of material from the article, and because the text being removed was properly wikilinked and formatted, suggesting that this was not a removal of simple vandalism. However, s/he reverted me immediately after that, using an edit summary pointing out the copyright violation, so the problem was soon fixed. I'll do my best to prevent things like this from happening again, but I guess the lesson here is that we should always use edit summaries. Cheers, Tangotango 07:29, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

Re: Edit counting

edit

Thanks for your speedy help. However, I think I will be lost forever because I followed the steps for Interiot's second tool (the first of the two you recommended) and all that happened was that my Internet Explorer crashed. Does this mean java or java script (I don't know the difference, nor do I know what either of them do) isn't activated on my computer or something? I think I need a degree in computer programming.. Haha! Anyway, thanks for your help, hopefully the original tool will work again sometime. – Jared Preston 08:24, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well I do have JavaScript running apparently, because otherwise I wouldn't see the editor bar which is above this window whilst I'm typing... I can't explain, but I'm sure I've seen it on my Internet Options menu as being activated. Either way, it's news to me that the tool is being fixed, and in the meantime I think I asked for help on Interiot's talk page. Hopefully it'll all be back to normal within a few days, or after the easter weekend at worst. In conclusion, thank you so much for your speedy help, it really is appreciated! Arigato gozaimasu!

I, Jared Preston, hereby award this barnstar to Tangotango for being so helpful. It's nice to know there are still a few nice people left in this world! – Jared Preston 08:44, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

My pleasure! I'm glad we could be acquainted. May I ask what is your name? :-) – Jared Preston 09:02, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I understand, that's not a problem! I didn't even realise you were Japanese at first, it was only after writing to you the second time... And then I wasn't sure if you were male or female (how embarrassing, I still don't!) because, as you explain on your userpage, Tangotango is female, although I've never known for a woman to be so interested in trains! :-D A friend of mine, Mayumi, comes from Osaka. I hope to visit her there one day. 乾杯! – Jared Preston 09:18, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
I cheated; my mother, although being English, studied Japanese at university. And of course when Mayumi was living in London she taught me some words too. But not all of them I'd be able to make friends with ;-) I loved trains when I was younger, although now I have more of a fascination for planes. What is your closest train station? I live just 5 minutes from here: Kew Gardens station. I have to go now, but I hope you have a nice weekend! – Jared Preston 09:38, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

RE: you're trying to delete the Zeta Sigma Phi page.

edit

Please go to the Zeta Sigma Phi Website to determine the founding date (which you say is obviously false). You can also Contact the University of Southern California's Office of Greek Life to discuss the founding of this sorority and the subsequent Multicultural Greek Council. Please do you're research before you go tagging articles. . . Further more. . there are lots of sororites on Wikipedia that I consider non-notable. If you aren't in the group, its probably not notable to you, but there are many sisters and alumni who like seeing correct information about Zeta's on this site. Why did you not delete the old page that was up here with the un-trademarked Zeta History? Why are you not trying to delete all the sororoites pages from Wikipedia?? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tamarastern (talkcontribs) 09:10, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Your recent reversion violates national security. It is in your best interests to stop because I am George W. Bush and I will not allow anybody to spread information about the military. Hi - You have marked my contribution on Pee Wee Crayton as using copyrighted material - whilst i have borrowed large sections of ot from other websites (none of which display any copyright information) i have editted it myself to form a new view on the man.

Can you let me know what rules i have broken? - and possibly reconsider the view that any of the material used was copyrighted.
