Hi Tawker. I noticed that you also use the show/hide frame on your user page. Can you tell me why the frame begins at "hide" on Don Mills Collegiate Institute (Under the Courses section) instead of "show" like your page? I don't usually jump on the "Canadian team" bandwagon because I believe that pretty much EVERY team is Canadian (because most NHLers are). An idea for Tawkerbot2

Hi Tawker! I have an interesting idea for Tawkerbot2. I've noticed that sometimes it catches new users blanking articles that they created themselves. In such instances, would it be possible to program to bot to tag these as speedies instead? Some refinements would be needed...just an idea. --HappyCamper 19:46, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

Sorry to butt-in here, but I think Tawkerbot2 already has some of this functionality. One example of this that I saw was Duckbear. When the author blanked it, Tawkerbot2 automatically added {{db-author}}. I'm curious, Tawker, does it do this every single time an author blanks a page in which s/he was the sole contributor? Awesome! It already does it...the ones I'm thinking of are probably the more tricky cases where another Wikipedian beats the bot at adding a tag or such. Can we do something, say, if the article has less than 5 edits, and if all all edits are just tags or blanking, the bot will tag it as a speedy? --HappyCamper 19:54, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

The current criteria will db author if the only editor on a page blanks it, if any other editor kicks in it won't do it. For sure the latter criteria is possible, It's on the Tawkerbot2 revision 3 list :) -- Tawker 20:25, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

When you edit directly beneath the edit box is a message which says "You agree to license your contributions under the GFDL.", the licensing under the GFDL enables wikipedia to republish provided it meets the terms of the GFDL, since wikipedia is not breaking the terms there is no copyright issue with Wikipedia continuing publishing them. --pgk^(talk) 14:38, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Wrong. Permission to publish (whether in print or on the Internet) is always subject to withdrawal regardless of such conditional statements that pretend to have the power to nullify the intent of the law. Copyright permission is always subject to denial. This is the whole point behind the DMCA takedown. You need to read the DMCA signed into law by President Bill Clinton on October 28, 1998 which amends title 17 of the US Code to extend its reach to copyright, while limiting the liability of Online Providers from copyright infringement by their users while requiring them to comply with any change in owner instructions and will. I think this fellow is a little wacky -- the GFDL doesn't grant permission while retaining rights -- it releases rights. The DMCA does not allow anyone to revoke the release of rights; doing so would scuttle the purpose of the distinction between a rights release and grant of permission. Hi, I'm approaching you as an administrator to get something done about User:Devin79 aka IP adress 68.35.182.234. This user repeatedly vandalises the page Provisional Irish Republican Army and other related pages and has signalled in the talk pages that he intends to keep on doing so.

The problem is that this user is so keen to promote his own point of view that he reverts all the work other editors have done on the article to make sure his contributions are still there. This would be annoying if his contributions were any good. However, in his contributions, he shows very little knowledge of the subject and what is much worse, he makes up false information and cites false sources to support it. See the talk page at PIRA for examples. Not only this, but he repeatedly changes the information supplied by real sources so that they appear to say things that they do not in fact say.

I think that this user has nothing to contribute to wikipedia and should be banned.

• The cycle of sd/drv/xfd/repeat really needs to stop, and not just with this template. speedy deletions that are requiring salt seems to be a bit harsh as well. Especially with templates, as the pages using them don't even get a note that they are gone, with a page using many templates many editor may miss the disucussions because they don't notice the change right away; perhaps for userboxes a new {{deletedpage}}template should be used, WITHOUT noincludes, e.g.:

SALT	This template has been deleted and protected. See deletion review for recreation information. (more)

Hey Tawker, Regarding Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Spam#We_are_all_looking_forward_to_killing_this_spam my posting about a persistent spammer (probably from zombies or bot net), someone suggested that VoA add the term "fsorward" to his bot; he informed me that his bot wasn't filter-based, but that yours was. I feel this was a misconceived unblock. Editors who persistently disrupt Wikipedia after many requests to stop can be blocked. Tawkerbot goofed

An earlier anon editor copied/pasted a huge amount of text into the China article from an external website. When I tried to clean it out Tawkerbot nailed me with a warning and RV'd the copyvio text right back into the article. HELP! Have you considered adding some sort of logic to your bot to detect when vandals remove categories and/or interwiki links? If someone is removing a large number of interwiki links or removing all the categories from a page it is a pretty good sign that it is vandalism. Qutezuce 03:08, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Patent nonsense

Hey Tawker!

I would like to clarify one point with you. CSD G1, the "patent nonsense" clause, is very easy to interpret broadly. Many admins do. It is, however, a very small category...patent nonsense is only random characters, random words, or something that a reader of English would find difficult or impossible to read. It does not cover failed or misguided policy pages. It is not to be interpreted as broadly as possible in order to delete things which seem silly, or inane, or misguided. Sasquatch admin abuse

No, the account on which I was an administrator has since been retired. The admin powers were removed when I left. Sasquatch has been spamming my user talk, refusing to allow me to remove the messages from a vandal who most likely is his sockpuppet. Just unblock User:Tchadienne. "The admin powers were removed when I left." -- In point of fact, after ArbCom carefully considered the numerous reasons to strip FreestyleFrappe's admin powers from him, made that their ruling, and justly removed his admin powers ( Feb 12th), then he 'retired' that account ( Feb 21st ) and later began using two others, Tchadienne and Kl, in addition to continuing to use the 'retired' original account to circumvent blocks that other admins, acting in good faith, had placed on his new accounts for new reasons. The beauty of Wikipedia is that all the information is still available, ("who most likely is his sockpuppet"), including previous false accusations by FreestyleFrappe of people being sockpuppets just because they both disagree with him or find fault with his behavior. Tawkerbot2

I apologise if you get a lot of these, and by the looks of it you probably do. Anyway, I was reverting vandalism while RC patrolling and Tawkerbot reverted my revert and gave me the warning. I reverted it back, removed the warning and thought nothing else of it. However, some time later, it reverted my revert back again for no apparent reason, see here (Specifically, the time difference between these two edits). This was baffling and I thought it warranted a comment here. Again, I apologise if I'm wasting your time with a known issue. -- Steel 00:48, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Had you simply added the final score, I would have assumed good faith. Posting the first-period score of an ongoing game clearly comes across as an exaggerated response to the slightly out-of-process inclusion of the World Cup results (the style of which you mimicked). Again, it wasn't a point. Likewise, using rollback to revert non vandalism can be seen as making a point. As for a block, normally they come after a failure to dicuss which is clearly not the case. Tawker, I've noticed you giving approval to bot requesters, but do not see you in the approvals group. The bot policy is rather vauge about the bot approvals process, mentioning admins,'crats,stewards and the "approvals group", also can't seem to find a policy on how the approvals group works. AntiVandalBot blocked due to malfuctioning

I hated to do this, but I've blocked AntiVandalBot (talk · contribs) due to malfuctioning. It was reverting edits outside of the article namespace, which it was not supposed to be doing. Several legitimate editors had been warned for testing on the introduction page. [1] [2] Tawkerbot2 also made some reverts outside the main namespace, but I didn't block it since it wasn't making bad reverts unlike AntiVandalBot. Hi Tawker, I was wondering if we could have a Tawkerbot2 for the Commons? The main two types of vandalism/damage we have are blanking and "tests"/gibberish (lots of [[Media:Example.ogg]] links... oh wait, they're redlinks in the Commons :)). Can you have your bot patrol an article?

We've got a user repeatedly adding the same thing from multiple IPs and ignoring attempts to contact them. We've tried sprotection, but it never works. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a bot. I thought perhaps we could fight bots with bots, and have Tawkerbot watch the two pages. The edits are like this and this. You can see on the history page that it has been done dozens of times and reverted as vandalism. They like to replace "ionic air" with "eletrokinetics" in Lifter (ionic propulsion device) and remove references to ionic wind from Biefeld–Brown effect. I think they always paste the same exact text into the articles. — Omegatron 17:47, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

TB2's Warnings

Noticed a problem with the link you (or joshbuddy) added to TB2's warnings. Simple to fix though, you just have to make sure that any spaces in the article name are replaced by underscores or %20's, or else the link won't work. The anti-vandalism bots seem to be malfunctioning again. This time, they've stopped warning vandals and are no longer reporting them to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism/TB2. A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Am I out of a job?

I try and patrol the recent changes page in search of vandalism pretty regularly. I would say that 95% of the time that I catch something and revert it, I find that I have been beat to it by either Tawkerbot2 or 4. At first, this would frustrate me simply because it takes me a short while to make the changes only to find that the work has already been done, but I quickly get over it when I remember that the point is to just get rid of the vandalism... I could care less how it is done. My question is though, with the bots doing such a great job and cleaning up vandalism, is there still a point for me to patrol the recent changes page? Is there perhaps other things that one should be on the lookout for that your bots don't catch? I mean, are manual vandalism revisions a thing of the past with bots like yours?
