Use of New Template

edit

I have created a template {{WikiProject Maryland/flag/animated}} using a commons image that could be used on the front page of the Maryland project. As you can see, I have configured it to fly behind the wiki-puzzle-world logo in the upper left portion of the screen. I will leave it there for a couple of days and invite your comments as to whether we should use it on our front page, or not.--«Marylandstater» «reply» 16:32, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please leave Support or Oppose comments here:

Please make sure you have completed all three of the following:

  1. Added {{move|NewName}} at the top of the talk page of the page you want moved, replacing "NewName" with the new name for the article. This creates the required template for you there.
  2. Added a place for discussion at the bottom of the talk page of the page you want to be moved. This can easily be accomplished by adding {{subst:RMtalk|NewName|reason for move}} to the bottom of the page, which will automatically create a discussion section there.
  3. Added {{subst:RMlink|PageName|NewName|reason for move}} to the top of today's section here.

If you need any further guidance, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Requested moves or contact me on my talk page. - JPG-GR (talk) 06:02, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Don't get me wrong; I disagree with you on this particular matter, but I appreciate the work you're doing. There are only a few architects here, and the field is wide open for anybody that wants to improve the topic of architecture; it's woefully underrepresented. Please keep an eye out for proposed deletions; I've rescued a few buildings and architects from oblivion because they were only significant in the '50s, '60s and '70s, a neglected era on this wiki, proving the rule that nobody appreciates 30 or 40 year old buildings; it takes 50 or more years for buildings to become beloved local landmarks or "period detail." Acroterion (talk) 19:20, 17 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'll accept the compliment - thank you. I haven't time to do much on here, I try to keep an open mind and if your education was anything like mine: I assume you are good at accepting criticism. I appreciate your contributions to this and other articles. Of course you know, this particular discussion that goes further back than Wikipedia.--Teda13 (talk) 19:19, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ah, design juries. I learned a great deal of humility there, along with enough startling successes to keep me going. It's worse when you're going around a newly completed project that took three or four years of your life to design and build, and all anybody wants do is complain about the size/location/view/finish level of their office. Graphic Standards

edit

Have you seen Drafting Culture: A Social History of Architectural Graphic Standards [1]? I just ran across it on Amazon. Sounds interesting, but perhaps not interesting enough for $30, times being what they are. Acroterion (talk) 15:21, 2 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

I was unaware of this book - thank you. Wish they had a preview somewhere. Maybe i'll see if they have a copy to look at down at my AIA. For a little more / $34 / you could have Traditional Construction Patterns: Design and Detail Rules-of-Thumb [2] - - should be required reading for everyone involved in residential design, development or real estate today.--Teda13 (talk) 15:52, 2 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
I do little residential work, but I see so much junk close at hand that irritates the hell out of me that I believe I'll spend the money: thank you, this looks worthwhile. I see so much new construction - some ostensibly reviewed by historic district commissions - with slapdash detailing and proportioning that could be done correctly at no greater cost than doing it wrong. Suggestion for WikiProject United States to support WikiProject Maryland

edit

It was recently suggested that WikiProject Maryland might be inactive or semiactive and it might be beneficial to include it in the list of projects supported by WikiProject United States. I have started a discussion on the projects talk page soliciting the opinions of the members of the project if this project would be interested in being supported by WikiProject United States. Please feel free to comment on your opinions about this suggestion. --Kumioko (talk) 03:02, 17 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Non-free rationale for File:ClarencePerry1935.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:ClarencePerry1935.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 06:19, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Since you provided a detailed fair-use rationale, I don't see the "lacking an FUR" deletion rationale as valid; maybe Fastily hit the wrong menu? I've done that, although I don't readily see a problem with the rationale. I'd approach Fastily and ask him what he saw as insufficent. Acroterion (talk) 03:32, 20 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks much. I think the guy is notable since he's essentially the grandfather of neighborhood planning in the U.S. but he's no Mumford so there won't be many other pictures of himTeda13 (talk) 03:45, 20 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Greenwashingcard.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Greenwashingcard.jpg, which you've sourced to (poster). I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:55, 17 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Notification of automated file description generation

edit

Your upload of File:312 overhill oeadams.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Orphaned non-free image File:ClarencePerry1935.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:ClarencePerry1935.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Christian H. Kahl, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Republican Party. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
