There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Drmies (talk) 03:05, 2 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I am not a business - my website generates no revenue, and contains no advertising; nor am I an organisation - I am an individual person, representing no one else. The link in question contained an image to verify the information, and nothing else. The reason the image was linked from my website was because I was providing an image of an email that AOL sent out to verify the information. As I said in my edit: If you have another way to link information from an email sent by the company in question, I'm all ears.

Accept reason:

@Drmies: I think this block may have been an overreaction. User registered in 2007 and has not made a habit of adding links to his own website. Clearly it was misguided but I feel it could have been resolved with discussion/warning. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:40, 2 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • MSGJ, I am more than happy for you to unblock--but the user needs to change their name, obviously: thank you for your advocacy. Terrisus, whether you are generating money is really not the concern--promotion isn't always about money. As for the image, well, that will never count as a reliable source here; surely you can find a better way to verify this. Anyway, you can't really have a name that's also the name of a website. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 14:39, 2 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
It's not obvious to me. His username matches the name of his personal website. Big deal. It's not a company or organisation. What's the issue here? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 14:42, 2 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • MSGJ, have it your way, though it says it right there in WP:USERNAME--"The following types of usernames are prohibited: Promotional usernames: Are the name of a company, organization, group, website, or product (including non-profit organizations)". It can't be more clear than that, but I have better things to do. Hell, I'll unblock the user myself. Drmies (talk) 14:57, 2 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
