Conflict of interest and paid editing
editHello, TheDotECO. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 19:40, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
Your username
editWelcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. This is a message to let you know that your username, "TheDotECO", may not comply with Wikipedia's username policy. Please note that the following types of usernames are prohibited:
- Promotional usernames: Those that match the name of a company, organization, group, website or product (e.g. "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", "Foobar Museum of Art"). However, you are allowed to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally (e.g. "Jack Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "FoobarFan87").
- Usernames implying shared use: Those that directly imply shared access between people (e.g. "Jack and Jill's Account"), or match names of posts within groups or organizations (e.g. "Secretary of the XY Foundation").
- Misleading usernames: Those that contain suffixes like "bot" or "script" and imply an account is that of an automated bot when it is not, or titles like "admin" or "sysop" (implying a position of authority), or match names of living people that you are not, such as famous living people. If you are a famous person editing under your real name and your account is blocked from editing, please note that this is not to discourage you from editing, but rather to prevent any potentially damaging impersonation of you.
- Offensive and disruptive usernames: Those that contain words or phrases that are likely to offend other contributors, directly threaten or attack another person or some entity, contain contentious material about living persons, or otherwise imply you do not intend to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia (e.g. "JohnIsAJerk", "WannabeWikipediaVandal").
For more information, see Wikipedia's username policy.
Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, website, person or other entity, nor do we tolerate any other 'bad faith' editing such as trolling, vandalism or other disruptive behavior, regardless of your username. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. If you do not understand which part of the policy your username may be violating, please don't hesitate to ask. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing this form, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 19:40, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
Specifically, your username implies:
- Shared use, either now or in the future.
- Promotional username
OR if you are not connected with the company that owns the trademark, it is misleading in that implies that you do.
Your username is not offensive, that message is part of the standard "form letter" message. However, it is disruptive by virtue of being either shared use, promotional use, or misleading. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 19:40, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
Email to User:davidwr
editI received your email.
I would prefer to have this discussion out in the open. Please just add it below this message. Use colons (":") at the beginning of a line to indent. Put {{re|davidwr}}
to activate Wikipedia's WP:Notifications mechanism, so I will be notified of your reply the next time I log in, or the next time I load a Wikipedia page if I am currently logged in. Once I see the message, I will reply.
If you need to have a private conversation with someone in an "official capacity" use the WP:OTRS system. Mail sent to them is read by a small group of volunteers. I am not on that mailing list. However, based on the email you sent me, this can be handled out in the open. 21:57, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of User:TheDotECO/sandbox
editA tag has been placed on your user page, User:TheDotECO/sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. GPL93 (talk) 16:06, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
