editHi Grantley, sorry for the time taken to get back to you; I've had the flu. I'd obviously rather not give out my email details but I have had my email address for over a decade so if you know that, send me an email on that. Otherwise I'll think of something else. --Roisterer 00:01, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- I've just realised that you can email me through the "Email this user" link that you will find on the lefdt hand side of my user page. --Roisterer 23:39, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Stan Reid
editHi there. I have added some extra links and categories to your article, as well as some headings (in the hope that a page structured in that way might invite others that might know just some tiny little extra snippet of information to contribute). I have altered the piece "before becoming a reverend minister" to "before entering the clergy" for two reasons: first, "becoming a reverend minister" delivers connotations of him being some sort of a religious crank (which I am certain would not be the case), and second, in those days the headmaster of Caulfield Grammar School was a man who had been a missionary and, after his sojourn at the school, would return to being a missionary. Although one of the Plymouth Brethren (who had no clergy) his missionary work was associated with the Church Missionary Society, which was closely linked with the Church of England, and from this I would suppose that the clergy that Reid entered would have been a somewhat conventional one. BTW you'll notice that he also has a guernsey at List of Caulfield Grammar School people and at The_VFL_during_the_World_Wars#VFL.2FAFL_players_who_died_in_active_service. Anyway, well-done on a fine piece of resource foraging. Lindsay658 (talk) 09:12, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Another thought. You might find it useful to go to your local library and arrange for the library to borrow a particular book for you. The book is:
- Webber, Horace, Years may pass on . . . Caulfield Grammar School, 1881-1981, Centenary Committee, Caulfield Grammar School, (East St Kilda), 1981. ISBN 0-9594242-0-2
On page 21 there is a photograph "Caulfield Grammar School Cadet Unit. 1887." maybe he is in that. Lindsay658 (talk) 09:24, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
- Whilst this [1] solves the ordination issue, Daffey's remarks about time, court-martial, re-enlistment etc. seems to conflict with the version that you have presented. Perhaps you could check your sources and, also, try to see whether any other sources support what Daffey has spoken of. I suppose that, all things being equal, Daffey is usually reliable, so it may be worth contacting him to see whether he can let you know his sources. Anyway, I have put in a bit about him being a Presbyterian pastor, and a link to Daffey's piece. You seem to have uncovered the fact that you have quite an interesting man as a relative. - Another lead for you: [2]. Lindsay658 (talk) 07:53, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
I have just got hold of a copy of
- Main, J. & Allen, D., Fallen — The Ultimate Heroes: Footballers Who Never Returned From War, Crown Content, (Melbourne), 2002. ISBN 1-740-95010-0
Stan Reid has a four page piece, full of lots of interesting information plus two photographs. It also mentions that his brother (Surgeon-Captain Francis Bentley Reid) was with him when he sustained his mortal wound (he died in South Africa). Suggest you ask your local library to see if they can obtain a copy of the book for you as an "inter-library loan" from another library. When I have some time, I will add some of the details to his Wiki Article. By the way, he was not court-martialled (although he had expected to be). Lindsay658 (talk) 23:36, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- Just finished a re-write and added lots of information. Hope you enjoy it. He seems to have really impressed a lot of people during his short life. Lindsay658 (talk) 20:23, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- Just added some more stuff. If you go to http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home and insert "Stanley Spencer Reid" and then, when the first page comes up, click on the "TAG" of Stanley Spencer Reid (beneath the abstract) and this will take you to http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/tag?allTags=1&name=Stanley+Spencer+Reid and there you will find 80 articles that relate to him. Hope you find something of interest.Lindsay658 (talk) 04:18, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
Cheers for the Tatmus
editIt looks quite flash. --Roisterer (talk) 23:28, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
