editHello, I'm Materialscientist. I noticed that in this edit to Alicia Pietri, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Materialscientist (talk) 23:54, 22 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, don't bite me. Hello, please review the article carefully and send this warning message. I'm doing this based on a suggestion from my user page. Thank you. TheGreatPeng (talk) 23:59, 22 October 2023 (UTC)

- Thanks for your warm welcome. However, my editing on Wikipedia is temporary, and when I finish my assignment, I will leave Wikipedia. If I have some time, I will definitely come back. Based on my current experience, I enjoy editing articles. Thanks. TheGreatPeng (talk) 02:45, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
Journey to the West (Chinese opera) - intriguing!
editHi! zh-tw:西遊記_(雜劇) appears to be corresponding Chinese language Wikipedia content (and if you are translating that one, you do need to make a note of that - I can assist with that.) Happy editing! Shirt58 (talk) 🦘 02:44, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, dude, @Shirt58:
- Thanks for pointing that out. I don't know how to add a translation tag to my article. Could you please teach me? Thanks.
- Best regards. TheGreatPeng (talk) 02:47, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
- OMG, you are an admin of Wikipedia, I'm excited that you're here to help. If I make a mistake, please forgive me, and I'd appreciate your guidance. Thanks. Best regards. TheGreatPeng (talk) 02:52, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

Some thoughts on Feng Shenbang
editHello @TheGreatPeng, I am a WP:New Page Patroller and I just came across your article Feng Shenbang. I first would like to give thanks for your effort put into the page. That being said, I have some more thoughts on how you can improve this article:
- 1. Move / rename this article to List of gods in the Investiture of the Gods. On English Wikipedia, there already exists an article titled Investiture of the Gods, which is the Chinese classical novel of Fengshen Yanyi / Fengshen Bang. Your article is not about the novel, but on the gods mentioned in the novel. (It is linked to the Chinese article "封神榜三百六十五位正神", which is also about the gods, not the novel itself.) If you need help on moving / renaming this article, let me know, or please visit the WP:Teahouse.
- Also, "Feng Shenbang" doesn't even make sense in the Pinyin system–the space should go before "bang", not "shen".
- 2. Change your wording. In the very first sentence of your article, you used the phrases revered treasure and sacred artifact. These are subjective words and do not adhere to the standards of Wikipedia. See WP:Peacock for more about this policy.
- 3. Add more sources. The "List of Gods" section is entirely unsourced. Are there any online lists that you could reference to prove that these gods exist in Fengshen Bang?
Please kindly consider these advice. Forgive me of being blunt, but if the article is not sufficiently improved from its current state, it faces the risk of being nominated for deletion. Cheers, --The Lonely Pather (talk) 15:29, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @TheLonelyPather:, thanks for reaching out and teaching me a lot. Regarding the name, I don't think it should be renamed to "List of gods in the Investiture of the Gods" because there are over 1000 characters, and only 365 were appointed as gods. I suggest renaming the article to Register of Deities or alternatively, we can choose "Gods List from the Investiture of the Gods." What do you think?
- Regarding Pinyin words, as a half-Chinese, I understand the Pinyin system, and the current name "Feng Shenbang" is influenced by the word usage from another linked Wikipedia article. I was also initially confused with that translation. For peacock phrases, I will change them to a neutral tone.
- Regarding the source, I'm surprised that you mentioned, "The 'List of Gods' section is entirely unsourced." The list is recorded in the Fengshen bang chapters 99th and 100th. You can also check Wikisources 封神演義/卷099 and you can check source in English version here.
- As for notability, I created this article under the guidance of my professor, who stated that the subject is clearly notable enough to warrant an article. In my opinion, this is not a list of random fictional characters, and the list is crucial for Chinese folk religion, with characters that are worshipped in real life. I'm also surprised that you have little knowledge of Fengshen bang, considering you're Chinese. This novel is one of China's greatest works, and all characters can be notable in their own right. We even have articles for every single Water Margin character, even though most of them would be considered minor characters. The list is about the gods, not fictional Pokémon characters. It is also a subject of many scholarly discussions. Thank you so much for your suggestions. TheGreatPeng (talk) 17:26, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
- @TheGreatPeng, thanks for your attention to the article.
- I understand this is an important list, and that's why I am bringing this to your talk page so we can improve it quickly. The notability does not concern me, hence I didn't bring the notability issue up to you :) To me the page risks deletion because it needs to demonstrate itself from the article Investiture of the Gods enough to avoid WP:A10, which means the lede section, and the title of the article, will need to be improved so that even a non-Chinese reviewer will understand it well why they can't put it through A10.
- The principle here, I think, is to distinguish the purpose of this article, which is a list of characters from the book Investiture of the Gods, not another article about the book itself. And that brings us to the naming of the article. I would discourage you from using the names "Register of Deities" because it is another translation of the book's name. "List of gods in the Investiture of the Gods" is a Wiki-way of saying "Gods List from the Investiture of the Gods" (in Wikipedia, we tend to put the word List in front of article names to notify the reader that it is an article with information given in a list form).
- I acknowledge that there is a lot of ambiguity at hand– the Chinese name of the book literally means "the register of the invested / acknowledged deities". I think this demands us to further err on the safe side. An article title that says "list" is very straightforward.
- (I have modified footnote #10 to include the fact that the list is from chapters 99th and 100th. I think the plots of books of fiction do not need footnotes on English Wikipedia, and I guess that applies to list of characters as well. I might have been overthinking and I apologize for that.)
- Cheers, --The Lonely Pather (talk) 19:08, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @TheLonelyPather:,
- Thank you so much for your suggestions. I can sense your intention to guide me in the right direction, and I feel enlightened now. As a newcomer to Wikipedia, I find it challenging to learn the many policies and rules; my mentor mentioned that there are nearly 300 guidelines and rules on Wikipedia. I've learned a lot from you today.
- I've diligently expanded the articles with reliable sources, and I hope you find them improved. If I made any mistakes, please feel free to correct them or alert me on my talk page anytime. I understand that there might be Pinyin usage errors for some Chinese words. However, correcting them is challenging this time as there are over 300 names, and the current version I worked on is quite lengthy.
- I would like to follow your suggestion and rename the article to "List of gods in the Investiture of the Gods." However, I'm unsure how to change the article title if it's already been created. If you could help me with that, I would greatly appreciate it.
- Regarding footnotes, I've added them for deity names or titles. This is because some god titles have Wikipedia articles in other languages, and I couldn't link them due to the absence of an English Wikipedia article. Additionally, some titles are associated with many historical figures, necessitating clarification.
- I consider you to be my mentor. As a student with limited time to edit on Wikipedia, I love creating articles on Wikipedia, a hobby I discovered after finishing my assignment. Many students become inactive after completing assignments, but I'm not one of them—haha! See you around, and I wish you good luck. Thank you so much. TheGreatPeng (talk) 20:33, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
- @TheGreatPeng, thank you for your kind words, and I am quite flattered. I have moved / renamed the article. See List of gods in the Investiture of the Gods. I also reworded the lede (the first paragraph of the page) a little bit, to focus the article on the list of gods.
- Thank you also for paying attention to reliable sources. Footnotes are of personal taste and it is entirely up to you.
- Finally, I am going to make the page Fengshen Bang a disambiguation page, since it can refer to both the novel and the list of gods.
- Thanks for calling me a mentor but please, I insist, regard and treat me as a fellow editor on Wikipedia. Behind this online identity I might be three kids in a trench coat, President of the United States, or Jimmy Wales himself. See you around and good luck to you too. Cheers, --The Lonely Pather (talk) 20:49, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
- Also, since you are from Sichuan, may I suggest you have a look at Annunciation Seminary, Bailu, which is not far from Pengzhou, the place of the Peng clan? I am also recommending to you the marvelous works of User:Uriel1022 on Christianity in Sichuan (Anglicanism in Sichuan, Protestantism in Sichuan, and Catholicism in Sichuan) and Islam in Sichuan. Welcome to Wikipedia. Cheers, --The Lonely Pather (talk) 21:03, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for January 18
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detectedthat when you recently edited Li Mochou, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Mobile, Nether regions and Jinyong. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

A guide for zh-to-en translators like you
editHi Peng,
Courtesy link: User:TheLonelyPather/Essays/Guide for a translator
Recently I wrote a guide for Chinese-to-English translators like you. It might be a bit long. Feel free to take it as advice, not policy. Happy editing and translating. Cheers, --The Lonely Pather (talk) 15:03, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for this, my mentor. I noted it in my mind. Cheers TheGreatPeng (talk) 13:44, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, my mentor, @TheLonelyPather:, greetings, and LTNS, How do I install Extension:VisualEditor for my Wikipedia account? I read the guide on the extension page, but it's too complex to install. Could you please guide me to an easier installation method? Thanks TheGreatPeng (talk) 14:48, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @TheGreatPeng! I am sorry that I don't know how to use the visual editor extension. I am a source code editor. You should ask it at WP:Teahouse. Cheers, --The Lonely Pather (talk) 14:55, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- @TheLonelyPather:, Hello Lǎoshī, I have a question for you. I'm currently interested in submitting my recently created articles for DYK. Could you please check if my articles are eligible for the DYK process? Additionally, could you guide me on how to make a DYK nomination? If you are a new page reviewer, please review my articles. Thank you. TheGreatPeng (talk) 07:01, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

- @TheLonelyPather:, Hello....! TheGreatPeng (talk) 09:30, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Peng, sorry for not getting back earlier. I'm taking a break from Wikipedia and limiting my time spent on Wiki each day (see my user page for this). You can check yourself whether your articles are eligible for DYK (are they created / expanded 5x / made to GA within 7 days? Is the prose section 5000 characters+?) Go to WP:DYK and carefully read everything. The nomination portal is at Wikipedia:Did you know/Create new nomination. Take this as a learning experience! DYK nomination of Taiyin Xingjun
editHello! Your submission of Taiyin Xingjun at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) at your nomination's entry and respond there at your earliest convenience. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Luiysia (talk) 16:49, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for your review of My DYK. Cheers TheGreatPeng (talk) 18:02, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for your contributions to ChaPanda. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability and it is promotional and reads like an advertisement. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.
Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Ratnahastin (talk) 12:47, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
- Don't waste my time; nominating for AfD is better. Thanks TheGreatPeng (talk) 14:36, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

DYK for Fang Yi'ai
editOn 8 June 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Fang Yi'ai, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Tang-dynasty politician Fang Yi'ai was put to death and his wife Princess Gaoyang was forced to commit suicide after their failed rebellion against Emperor Gaozong? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Fang Yi'ai. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Fang Yi'ai), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

editHello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 12:16, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
DYK: Suicide of Fat Cat rejected
editI've rejected Template:Did you know nominations/Suicide of Fat Cat and cut out many details from the article Suicide of Fat Cat. It's not a personal thing, just protecting privacy and copyrights of others. Good luck at school, Rjjiii (talk) 02:38, 9 June 2024 (UTC)

- I came here to warn you about incivility and casting aspersions with your comments here and here, and I find you making another uncivil comment above. Editors who go around accusing others of targeting people based on their ethnicity, or accusing people of being careless and causing drama, tend to not last long before they wind up at WP:ANI or even get blocked. It's an easy enough fate to avoid - I recommend you take a few minutes before you respond to things in the future. This can help you respond more calmly without being rude or casting aspersions. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 04:14, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks. Before I met this DYK gang, my editing life was very quiet and peaceful. You can see my peaceful editing activities. Now I face many editors trying to overpower me, and I respond to them with measured words, but not rudely. However, I will be careful in the future and will never try to make DYK hooks again. Best regards. TheGreatPeng (talk) 09:40, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Premeditated Chaos: Here they are with the accusations again, not to mention the fact I have just been labelled as among the "DYK gang trying to overpower me" (not true). GreatPeng, would you please stop with the gaslighting and just take actual responsibility for your actions? You risk getting blocked with that attitude. Nineteen Ninety-Four guy (talk) 10:53, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Nineteen Ninety-Four guy, Could you please stop monitoring my activities on Wikipedia? I am now trying to live in quiet mode and stay away from you. When I mentioned the 'gang,' I meant your team; I did not mean to be accusation. Yes, I have had many arguments with your team, that's true. However, after facing many problems, I have decided to live quietly and withdraw from many discussions.
- Now, you have mentioned me to another Wikipedia admin to get me banned, even though I haven't done anything wrong. I'm okay with being banned for using indirect words. I'm currently under a lot of stress because of the bite, and I need a break for a week. Please reconsider your actions. Thanks. TheGreatPeng (talk) 13:40, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
- I want to apologize for any personal stress I may have inadvertently contributed to on my part. I think it may be helpful to take a step back and realize that how we perceive these interactions may be colored and influenced by our state of mind. From what I see, many people have spent their time trying to help you, not hurt you. I hope with time, you will also come to see this by changing your mind. I also want to say that we need many editors like yourself who have non-western knowledge and topic experience, so I find your contributions valuable and important. With that said, Wikipedia has a deep learning curve, so it’s important to remember that what you might perceive as gangs and arguments might not be so, but might otherwise be well intentioned editors attempting to point you in the right direction and help you achieve your goals. Mentorship is something you should seriously consider moving forward. I say this with only the best intentions and good will. In other respects, you got me very curious about the differences in cultural insults. For example, insults about or pertaining to canines don’t have the same impact in the west as they do in your region. Here, we believe that dogs are our "best friend" and should be treated with respect, like members of our own family even. That might be vastly different where you are. But this leads me to my next question: why are cultural insults about people being born from eggs, particularly turtle eggs, so scathing in your culture? We don’t have that in the US, so it’s a bit of a mystery to me. Hopefully, we can have a fruitful cultural exchange and learn more about each other. Viriditas (talk) 22:27, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, I had to look it up. Apparently turtles don’t know who their fathers are, is the implication. Very interesting. These kinds of insults fell out of favor in the US in the 1980s. Viriditas (talk) 22:57, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
