Revert

I did explain it in the summary. Please revert your edits because the references are listed in the wrong way and need to be incorporated as in-line sources. 69.120.29.18 (talk) 22:07, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Those are still reliable sources. If you want, you can convert the refs to inline citations, but don't blank the section. Thanks! Jonathan 22:10, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

What vandalism are you talking about?

Why do you keep accusing me of vandalism? Stop making false claims!

You added a shared IP tag to another IP's talk page with no backup evidence available. That's vandalism. Jonathan 16:00, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

I added to those because those edits were done by me from those IP addresses while I attended Schule Schloss Salem. Don't accuse me of vandalism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.178.153.206 (talk) 16:04, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

And also, why did you keep reverting my edits to Serbian constitutional referendum, 2006? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.178.153.206 (talk) 16:08, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

editing of a user pages as an unregistered user

Sorry for any inconvenience, but I got here from the Dutch wikipedia and I forgot I had to relog, since I've got an other accountname here. Though, I once mentioned Amelie poulain is my main account on my wikipedia IP-page, but appearently, my IP number changed from 83.82.46.47 to 83.82.45.72.

So, both IP-adresses are me. Amelie poulain (talk) 16:52, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Book of Mormon

Hi Jonathan:

I just want to give a little background info re the Book of Mormon edit that you reverted.

There is discussion in the last three sections of Talk ( Edits done by 66.251.16.100 / Recent edits to Book of Mormon article / Unverfiable content presented as history, etc ) of going back to an earlier version, because of a bunch of recent edits which were not discussed and which seem very POV to some editors, myself included.

The edit today that returned the article to a Jan 15 version was made from an IP address new to WP. Also unfortunately it had no edit note to explain the removal. I'm sure this is why you reverted.

As I say, this is just to fill you in on the situation. I expect the article will be returned to an earlier version again.

Cheers, Wanderer57 (talk) 17:13, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Your accusation of vandalism, and your repeated posting of information on a user talk page.

I've posted an explanation here of what I believe the situation is with regard to user 85.178.153.206 (talk · contribs). You posted information on the user's talk page that the IP address was a shared address and was associated with a particular school. You reverted, re-posting information about it being a shared IP address, which the user had deleted, [1], then posted 2 vandalism warnings that don't specify what the vandalism is: [2] [3]. However, I believe it was a misunderstanding and that it was not a shared IP address, as the user says it is not. The user had said that the user had done some edits from shared IP addresses; the user had not said that the address they were currently using was one of those shared IP addresses.

Incidentally, although your complaints page which you encourage people to use like a talk page asks emphatically for diffs (and still doesn't have a link to instructions on how to do diffs -- I'll put that in for you, if you don't object -- maybe you've been too busy), you didn't provide any diffs or reference to any specific page in the vandalism warnings that you posted to this user, making it more difficult for me to figure out what was going on in this situation.

Jonathan, I urge you to continue to increase the extent to which you respond to complaints, communicate with other users and try to clear up misunderstandings, remembering especially the guidelines Don't bite the newbies and Assume good faith. If I understand the situation correctly, I think an apology from you to this user would be appropriate here.

This is not the first time that, after you've posted a warning on a user's talk page, I've posted an explanation or apology on your behalf afterwards. Other examples are: Chicagofacts and Pakaru. In the latter case, the user was apparently trying to accomplish a move but was doing it by cut-and-paste. The move was eventually fixed by an admin merging the page histories. That was rather similar to the situation with Gustav Horn, Count of Pori that came up earlier. If you see someone turning a page into a redirect (or vice versa), it's better to either leave the situation alone or else give them information about how to accomplish a move correctly.

I hope you find these comments helpful. Thank you again for all the work you do correcting vandalism. --Coppertwig (talk) 23:02, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

New Semester, New Appeal

This semester I am teaching academic writing to a group of teachers at my school. This course starts on Monday Jan 28. I would like to know if you are still interesting in "mentoring". You can see the syllabus at Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/SyllabusIf so, please leave a message on my talk page and update the mentor's page Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Mentors, if . If not, please remove your name and information from that page. Thanks! Thelmadatter (talk) 21:21, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Signpost tutorial series on Portals

Hi Jonathan. You are currently signed to write a tutorial on Portals for Enochlau's Signpost tutorial series. Having worked with a lot of portals, and having contributed to a few featured ones as well, I was wondering if you would allow me to write a tutorial in place of you. If you still want to do it, that's fine, just a thought. Cheers, Spebi 06:01, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Go for it! :) Jonathan 19:30, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Respectful correction

Dear Johnathan,

thank you for your friendly guidance; in order to reciprocate, I feel I owe you an explanation: My recent alteration was in no way an attempt at vandalism or misguided sandplay, as it were; I felt that given the limited size of the "Ferrer (surname)" entry, it wold actually be more beneficial to users if it were reinstated to its original position, i.e. s.v. "Ferrer", whence it was transformed into a separate subpage in December, 2007. I still believe reinserting the information under "Ferrer" would be beneficial; naturally, however, I bow to your experience, if you continue to maintain that its present position is preferable.

Kind regards,

StuartStewart —Preceding unsigned comment added by StuartStewart (talkcontribs) 22:29, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Hello, StuartStewart. It wasn't quite clear to me exactly what you were trying to do. Ferrer is currently a disambiguation page; such pages follow a specific format and do not include paragraphs of text. I just tried to find something relevant in the Wikipedia:Naming conventions policy, and didn't find anything that would help decide whether "Ferrer" or "Ferrer (surname)" is a better name for the page; it may well be that I just didn't look hard enough. However, if Ferrer (surname) is to be renamed to Ferrer, then the material now at Ferrer, i.e. the disabmiguation list, must be moved to a page like Ferrer (disambiguation), with an appropriate hatnote on Ferrer to guide people to that page. It's not clear whether you had been planning to do this. If you want to rename the page, I suggest you post messages at both Talk:Ferrer (surname) and Talk:Ferrer, explaining your plan. Then wait a few days or weeks for comments. If people on those talk pages generally agree with your plan, or if you come up with a new plan together, and if it's consistent with Wikipedia policy as far as you can figure out, then you can make the changes, and in the edit summary mention that you're following a plan that's been discussed on the talk pages. --Coppertwig (talk) 01:51, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Jonathan.

Hi, Jonathan.

I was thinking that it may be rather uncomfortable for you to be receiving the kinds of messages I've been posting to your talk page. My messages have all been concerned with pointing out mistakes you'd made when you were apparently on Recent Changes patrol. So, I thought this time I would just post a friendly message to say hello.

I first met you when we were apparently both on Recent Changes patrol and we both got involved with the article Gustav Horn af Björneborg. As a result of checking your talk page to see if you were going to reply to my message about that, I then noticed other situations that also seemed worth commenting on.

We all make mistakes. We just need to apologize, learn from them and avoid making the same mistakes again. I made mistakes in my first few messages to you, as I've already explained.

I hope someday you'll answer at least one of my messages, even if it's just to say "Hi, Coppertwig." I'll see your reply if you post it here. --Coppertwig (talk) 01:33, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Interwikis

Hi Jonathan. I'm just doing interwikis with the french based Wikipedia. It may appear that the french article may be a « red link » a few minutes beacause I translate it in the same time as you may see there. I'm also a sysop, you shouldn't have real problems with my contributions ;) Cordially. ThrillSeeker (talk) 15:00, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

User:Jonathan/Where to find help on editing

Hi Jonathan, as you may have noticed, this tutorial wasn't published last week, because the Signpost editor didn't think that it was up to a suitable tutorial standard. If you have time, please try and make your article look a little more like the tutorial I wrote up in the first week - in particular, the step-by-step guides, the tone, the simplicity of explanation and the little exercises that people can do after reading your tutorial. Also, he objected to the use of "Hi!" in the first sentence. I'd make the changes myself, but I would like to see if you would like to make the change so that we can all learn from this experience. Again, thanks for your contribution. enochlau (talk) 17:19, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Hello!

Can i order a custom signature that is a compact one and make it all blue with the blinking talk tag? Thanks!

--Party! (talk) 23:59, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Hey! Sorry, but I'm afraid I can't do the blinking tag per policy, but I can go ahead and make the simple sig for you. Here's what I made: Party (talk). What do you think? Jonathan 00:09, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! I'll adapt it and i'll pimp it out :) <strong>[[User:Party|<font color="blue">Party</font>]]<font color="#0000FF">t<font color= "#00008B">ei</font></font></font></font></font></strong>]] It is right? Thanks! --Party! (talk) 02:40, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
And where should i put it? --Party! (talk) 02:41, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
In preferences, you will see a text box with the label "Signature." Paste that code into the box, and make sure that the "Raw signature" is checked. Otherwise, your sig will appear as the code you provided above, messy and no one will be able to read it. Thanks! Jonathan 02:48, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
I tried, but it says Invalid raw signature; check HTML tags. Wich sucks! --Party! (talk) 04:09, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Try this: <strong>[[User:Party|<font color="blue">Par</font><font color="#0000FF">t</font><font color= "#00008B">ei</font>]]</strong>, which looks like Partei. I didn't really understand the extra snippets of code before, which looked like Partytei]]. Did you want it that way? Jonathan 00:29, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Yup! It works! Thanks! --Partei 04:31, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Test! --Party 15:29, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Wrongful edit

Johnathan, what are you talking about? Did you even read the page? It said that the song hit 20 in the US. It didn't. It hit 87 and 20 on the rock charts. I was correcting a misleading fact in the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.236.130.76 (talk) 21:09, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
