I wonder why I have been advised to mark certain log entry template calls as checked
editHi PhantomTech! Thanks for writing, running, and maintaining your bot. User:ThePhantomBot/reports/UA/bad pages says at its top: "If you mark a page for speedy deletion, change its log entry template call's 'status' parameter to checked." Why? I've found that the bot notices what I've done, and the bot changes the parameter to "checked" automatically. Cheers, —Unforgettableid (talk) 03:55, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
- @Unforgettableid: It's true that the bot automatically updates the list and marks anything that's tagged for speedy deletion as "checked" but it only checks the list every once in a while, about every 10 minutes. The purpose of marking a page "checked" is so that other people looking over the list know which pages don't need to be looked at. If a page is tagged for speedy deletion soon after the last check, it would be a while before the bot updated it and other people would waste time opening the pages. That said, the time it takes to notice a page is tagged for speedy deletion is short and there aren't very many people using the bot right now so, updating the parameter manually isn't really nessesary and, of course, no one is required to update the parameter.
