Questions regarding uploading a recreation of an old Viewdata frame

edit

Hello!

I've recently gotten into recreating old Viewdata screens and have made a recreation of the *800# frame of Micronet 800 on 27th March 1986, using a screenshot that appeared in the July 1987 issue of Acorn User (on page 11) as reference.

This frame, as explained in the article, was the main landing frame for Micronet users, and is thus a fairly noteworthy frame. As such, I'd like to include my recreation as an image in the article. However, despite the fact that I made the recreation, this is not my content, and includes teletext artwork that I did not originally create. I do genuinely feel that the article would benefit from it, though, in order to showcase what the Micronet service looked like.

(For reference, examples of some similar Viewdata frames (from the TELSTAR service) can be seen in this image and may be useful for answering the questions I have below.)

Are there any specific guidelines I should consider for uploading a recreation of the Micronet landing frame? Does the "low resolution image" guideline still apply when the graphics themselves are kind of low-resolution anyway?

Thank you and I hope you have a great day! --TheSophera (talk) 21:49, 22 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

This question has been hanging out here for long enough.
A recreation of a Viewdata screen would prima facie be a derivative work of the original copyrighted work. It presents a possibly thorny copyright problem, one that most helpers who answer {{help}} requests on-wiki seem hesitant about venturing an opinion on.
You may wish to go to a specialist forum like WP:Media copyright questions to ask your question of an audience with more expertise. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 02:40, 24 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
