Hello, TheVel, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!--SarekOfVulcan 18:57, 28 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Personal attacks (Wikipedia:Deletion review/The International Journal of Inclusive Democracy)

edit

Please do not make personal attacks on other contributors. Wikipedia has a policy against personal attacks. In some cases, users who engage in personal attacks may be blocked from editing by admins or banned by the arbitration committee. Comment on content, not on the contributor. Please resolve disputes appropriately. Thank you. - ulayiti (talk) 14:24, 30 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

OK. But consider this for your comments too.--TheVel 02:28, 31 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

page deletion process

edit

"restore the other pages (IJID and Network) and of course keep the pages on D&N and Takis Fotopoulos" <-- All decisions about Wikipedia page deletion are going to be made by community consensus. If there are particular pages that you want to try to protect from being deleted, what you need to do is edit those pages so that they report notable facts, events and actions by notable people. In attempting to do this, you must use objective criteria for evaluating if the article content is truly notable. If you have a personal stake in the subject of an article, it can be difficult to apply objective standards. This is why it is usually suggested that people with a personal interest in a topic not edit Wikipedia pages about that topic. If the topic is truly notable, then someone who is not personally involved will take the time to write a good Wikipedia article. --JWSchmidt 15:12, 2 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

"banned DisposableAccount and not also PaulCardan" It seems clear that User:DisposableAccount was created as a Wikipedia user account that would serve as a tool to influence a community decision about deleting a Wikipedia page. Further, I think that the name "DisposableAccount" was selected in an attempt to make a statement, which is against Wikipedia policy. For those two reasons, I blocked DisposableAccount from editing. User:Jayjg suggested that User:Paulcardan should also be blocked. I left a message on the talk page of User:Paulcardan about the inappropriate use of multiple Wikipedia user accounts. However, it is not clear to me that blocking the User:Paulcardan account from editing would serve a useful purpose. --JWSchmidt 15:57, 2 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your input; it is welcome because I am still in a state of uncertainty with respect to blocking the User:Paulcardan account from editing. You suggested that such a block might help by preventing "campaigns against the Inclusive Democracy entries". I do not think that blocking a particular account (User:Paulcardan) would prevent campaigns against the Inclusive Democracy entries. In my view, if the Paulcardan Wikipedia account were blocked from editing, the person who created the Paulcardan Wikipedia account would simply create another account or return to editing Wikipedia from anonymous IP addresses. Part of the Wikipedia system of dispute resolution is to engage in discussions in an attempt to resolve disputes. In my view, it is worth trying to make use of the Paulcardan account for the purpose of having a discussion aimed at fixing the dispute over "the Inclusive Democracy entries". Towards this end, I have left messages for User:Paulcardan and others who have been involved in this dispute. The point I am attempting to make in my messages is that it is not a good idea for people with a personal interest in these Wikipedia articles to become involved in an "edit war" nor is it constructive to let an editing dispute spill over into votes for page deletion. --JWSchmidt 18:36, 2 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

That's a very thoughtful summary you put on my talk page. Why don't you incorporate it into the text, instead of removing any reference to the "disputes"?--SarekOfVulcan 01:06, 17 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
