Pratikar (English: Prevention) is a 1987 Indian Bengali language vigilante action film written and directed by Prabhat Roy.[1][2] Produced by Chandima Films in their 2nd production.[3], the film stars Victor Banerjee, Chiranjeet Chakraborty and Debashree Roy in lead roles, while Utpal Dutta, Madhabi Chakraborty, Satabdi Roy, Shakuntala Barua, Sukhen Das, Biplab Chatterjee, Chhaya Devi and Nimu Bhowmik play supporting roles. The screenplay and dialogues were also written by Prabhat Roy himself. The soundtrack album and background score was composed by Bappi Lahiri[4], with the lyrics penned by Gauriprasanna Mazumder. It plots the story of an intelligent student Shankar, who becomes vigilante after the violent murder of his mother and brutal rape of his sister, by the local goons who kidnaps women and sell them outsides. When he starts avenging, DSP Rajib Chowdhury who is childhood friend of Shankar, comes on the board to investigate the murder mysteries done by Shankar.

Pratikar marks the 2nd collaboration between Prabhat Roy and Victor Banerjee and the 1st collaboration between Roy and Chiranjeet Chakraborty. It was an all time blockbuster at the box office and ran more than 42 weeks in theatres. It received a number of positive reviews from critics, with appreciation for it's screenplay and direction, performances by the whole casting, stylized action sequences and the massy portrayal of the protagonist in the film. This film created a new image of Victor Banerjee, that of an action hero which became favourable among the masses. In the pre-interval scene, the murder and rape scene was portrayed violently in a Bengali film, for the first time, so the film got A certificate from the Censor Board[5]

In the year 1988, Pratikar was remade in Telugu and Tamil as Raktha Tilakam starring Venkatesh and Thaimel Aanai starring Arjun Sarja respectively and later it was remade in 1991 under the same title featuring Anil Kapoor as the protagonist.

In 1977 during the shooting of Ananda Ashram, Prabhat Roy narrated the script of Protidan and Pratikar to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. Kumar, who helped Roy to learn how screenplay and dialogues are written at the time of Amanush's pre-production in 1975, highly appreciated him for the brilliant story idea. Then Kumar suggested him to cast Mithun Chakaraborty to play the protagonist, as the character needed a proper body physique for the action sequences. After making his debut in 1986 through Protidan, Roy narrated the script of Pratikar to Chakraborty, but he had to turn down the film as he was busy in Mumbai and it was difficult for him to shoot a film seperately in Kolkata. Then Roy took a risk by casting Victor Banerjee in the role, with whom he had worked in his previous film Protidan. Banerjee, who was playing villainous roles in mainstream Bengali films and art house dramas at that point of time, took a proper training for the characteristics and action sequences. After the release of the film, both mass and class audiences praised Banerjee's performance in this field and audience as well as fans started calling him as 'Vigilante Star' and considered him to be the next action hero, after Uttam Kumar, Ranjit Mallick and Mithun Chakraborty.[6]

Hello, I'm Ravensfire. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Inspector Garud, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Ravensfire (talk) 15:21, 14 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add or change content, as you did at Fighter (2011 film), without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Sources are needed when you add information to the article. If it's mentioned (with a source!) in the article body, a source isn't needed in the article lead. Ravensfire (talk) 19:56, 14 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please stop. If you continue to add unsourced or poorly sourced content, as you did at 100% Love (2012 film), you may be blocked from editing. Ravensfire (talk) 13:48, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

If you want to state that a film was based on another work, you MUST include a reliable source that supports that statement. Please don't keep reverting to add back your unsourced edits. Ravensfire (talk) 13:51, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Punjabi remakes of Bengali films

edit

A tag has been placed on Category:Punjabi remakes of Bengali films indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 18:44, 14 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Unsourced edits

edit

The 108th vigilante, there's a fair number of messages on your talk page, so I'm creating this as a new section at the bottom so hopefully you'll see it easier. I appreciate your enthusiam, and helping out improve the articles with film posters and more details, but in some cases you're making edits with some issues. Using a reliable source to support the information you add is very important on Wikipedia. One of our core pilars is that readers can verify what in an article and that's done through adding sources. Help:Referencing for beginners is a good page to help with sources.

When you're adding categories to articles, they need to be a definnig characteristic of the article, not something that's minor. You also need to add only the most specific categories = for example you've added Category:1970s political films and Category:1970s political thriller films to an article, if you look at the political thriller category you'll see that it has the political films as a category, so you don't include the parent category. Wikipedia:Categorization would be helpful to read.

These issues have caused your edits to be reverted, and will continue to do so if you make edits with the same problems. It takes time for others to review your edits for issues, and ultimately is can lead to you being blocked for disruptive editing if you continue. Your enthusiam is great and I hope if continues, but please read the warnings and messages others leave and improve your edits. Thank you. Ravensfire (talk) 18:26, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

This has continued. The next time you make an edit without a source to back it up I will ask that you be blocked from editing for disrupting Wikipedia. Ravensfire (talk) 13:25, 16 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
In which article, will you please tell me sir? The 108th vigilante (talk) 15:32, 16 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
You haven't bothered to read any of the messages above, have you? That's not helpful. In short, most of your edits to articles. Your edit summaries are also still highly deceptive and that does not look good. Example - "Font" in this edit, that had nothing at all related to font. Be honest, be complete in your edit summaries. Ravensfire (talk) 15:39, 16 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
No sir, I am always trying to provide real and untold informations. In that article, I changed the word font from Italian to English The 108th vigilante (talk) 15:42, 16 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
If you continue to add information without a source, you WILL be blocked. And no, that edit did not change Italian to English. Anywhere. You added unsourced material and removed a wikilink. That's it. "Font" as an edit summary is deceptive, at best. Stop with the excessive categories as well - I'm not going to be cleaning them up at this point, I'm just going to be reverting wholesale. You need to add only the most specific categories backed by sourced information in the article. Ravensfire (talk) 15:55, 16 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Stop with the deceptive edit summaries

edit

Okay, this is getting annoying. Your edit summary for this edit was "rvt sourced removals". Except when you look at the edit that removed that information here THERE WAS NO SOURCE. Your "rvt sourced information" actually added a source that you DID NOT have in the first place, but your edit summary made it look like the other editor did something wrong. That's not fair to them and makes you look bad. You've continued with large unsourced edits (see Pratikar (1987 film) that I removed large chunks of unsourced material after you moved it out of draft space). This probably needs to go to ANI if you don't stop with this nonsense. Ravensfire (talk) 17:53, 17 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
